Introduction

Man’s search for meaning is the primary motivation in his life.

Viktor Frankl, Man’s Search for Meaning

There is a longing deep within every man’s heart to discover meaning and purpose in life; to lead a life of significance as opposed to a life of “success”; to live a life of adventure, conquest, and victory; to make a difference and leave a positive, enduring mark on the world. Yet, as Henry David Thoreau observed, “The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation.” Although Thoreau penned these words more than a century ago, they still ring true today. So many men—including devoted Christian men—wake up one day and realize they are leading lives of quiet desperation, silently “losing themselves” as they strive to meet unrealistic expectations, overcome mounting work and family pressures, and battle unrelenting temptations. These challenges can easily sidetrack men, causing them to lose their spiritual focus.

Whether consciously or unconsciously, many men subsequently spend their time and energy and resources searching for significance in pursuits and people and things that can never fully satisfy. Some simply give up on ever finding lasting meaning and purpose in this world. Others find themselves somewhere in between. In any case, the result is often the same: a pervading sense of exhaustion, futility, or hopelessness.

Yet there is a remedy to this cultural epidemic, and it is found in reclaiming and living out every man’s true purpose, which is found in God alone. As Saint Augustine wrote, “Thou hast made us for Thyself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in Thee.” The apostle Paul expressed it this way: “Everything, absolutely everything, above and below, visible and invisible . . . everything got started in [Christ] and finds its purpose in him” (Colossians 1:16 The Message).

365 Meditations for Men by Men is intended to help men focus on their relationship with God and, consequently, find real meaning and purpose in life. Twelve different Christian men share their reflections on what it means to be a man who seeks to follow Christ each and every day. Drawing upon the lives of men in the Bible as well as their own personal experiences, the writers present timeless truths and valuable life lessons that will speak to men of every age and experience. In addition to offering inspiration and encouragement, they provide counsel on practical matters such as how to

· know God;

· get your priorities in order;

· become spiritually fit;

· be holy and righteous;

· make a difference;

· be equipped;

· step up;

· take risks;

· stand firm;

· serve God wholeheartedly.

As you make your way through the year (whether you start in January or June), you will be undergirded by a sense of brotherhood—an assurance that you are not alone on this journey. With this confidence, may you boldly and courageously pursue a full and abundant life in Christ!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must-Read
Still single but longing for a wife, I read "The Mark of a Man" just after my fortieth birthday. This book clarified and reaffirmed what I've come to believe over fifteen years of studying the Bible.

There are forty-four very short, concise, easy-to-read chapters. The first twenty chapters examine and clarify the wonderful differences God created between men and women. They focus more on what is a woman than what is a man. The last twenty-four chapters clarify God's intent for men in particular. Mrs. Elliot is Biblically sound. She is unabashedly, refreshingly, and at times humorously non-"feminist" -- while simultaneously being absolutely pro-woman and undeniably feminine. Her thoughts about gender roles may be regarded by some as old-fashioned, but in actuality, they are timeless. When men and women conduct their lives according to the principles Mrs. Elliot expounds, the world will be a more peaceful, harmonious place. This book is insightful and refreshing; a delight to read.

As a reviewer of the earlier edition said, I also wanted to write Mrs. Elliot to thank her for this excellent work. I, too, felt like she was my aunt or my grandmother who sat me down and lovingly taught me what God expects of men in their relationships with women.

I wish I had read "The Mark of a Man" when I was a teenager or in my early twenties.

I regard this to be one of the best books I have ever read. I highly recommend this book for men and women, young and old alike.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mother of Three Boys
Absolute read for every single, married, divorced woman. No matter if you're single by choice, abandoment or especially if you're dating or engaged.Scripture examined under a microscope for men/women's roles from creation as God communicates He intended them to be; recreated in personal letters from aunt to nephew.Refreshing, challenging, may be earth shattering (I hope!) for the feminist revolution.God created a romantic dance, if you will, between the sexes - and men were created to take the lead.That means women have a role to learn too - neither of us can dance without the other.Buy it - think about it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Another gem by Elisabeth Elliot!
Elisabeth Elliot writes to her nephew Pete and lays out a methodical, yet insightful and personal case study of masculinity as modeled after the life of Jesus Christ. She shares many stories about her first husband, Jim Elliot, as well as other people she has counseled or known. I find her writing deep with conviction, scripturally sound and challenging. I would recommend this book to any man wanting to understand his earthly purpose and calling in the light of his relationship with Christ. It's also an excellent book for Christian women who want to understand their role as it relates to the men in their lives.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mark of a Man
Gave this book as a gift to a young man who wants to keep focused on God's purpose for his life.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tremendous and Important Book for Men
I first bought this book before I married in 1982. For 26 years I've used these truths and have had a powerful, solid marriage. It has affected our children including our six sons who are in and entering their 20s. Our sons know that God has not only made them men, but He has commanded them to be men. And as Elisabeth Elliot so clearly states his her book, our daughters realize that in order for them to be powerful women, their husbands must be powerful men.

I've bought many copies of Mark of a Man for young married and un-married men. I have seen powerless, fearful, uninitiated men become real men--and their wives, even the most ardent feminist, love it! Elisabeth Elliot is very hard on her own gender and her antidotes to the destructive feminism of a quarter century ago remain powerfully true for today. Yet, it becomes clear in the book using God's own Word to state that only when men decide to be the real, courageous, masculine men God created them to be, only then will women become free of the deceit, bondage, and weakness of feminism to become the powerful women God made them to be.

Elisabeth Elliot does talk somewhat frank about male and female sexuality (frank for that day and time). For the discussion on men, she may allude that men should never masturbate even when single. Having been a single young man and having raised and am raising six young men, we all have to masturbate as God physiologically made us. This is usually difficult for women (particularly Christian women) to understand. Our problem is not ejaculating before we are married, it is the lusting that is our problem. Read that chapter on men's sexuality as God's Holy Spirit interprets it for you (as you should the entire book as any book).

Very highly recommend this book. ... Read more

Product Description
Men of the Bible offers both men and women a fresh way to read and understand the Bible---through the eyes and hearts of the men whose stories unfold in its pages.This unique book takes a close-up look at fifty-two men in Scripture---complex flesh-and-blood characters whose strengths and weaknesses will seem strangely similar to your own. Heroes and villains, sinners and prophets, commoners and kings ... their dramatic life stories provide you with a fresh perspective on the unfolding story of redemption.Though our culture differs vastly from theirs, the fundamental issues we face in relation to God and the world remain the same. We still reach for great dreams and selfish ambitions. We wrestle with fear and indecision, struggle with sexual temptation, and experience the ache of loneliness and the devastation of betrayal. And, like many of these men, we long to walk more closely with the God who calls us into an intimate relationship with himself and who enables us to fulfill his purpose for our lives. Men of the Bible offers men and women today a unique devotional experience that combines five elements. Each week becomes a personal retreat focused on the life of a particular man:Monday: His Story---a narrative retelling of the biblical storyTuesday: A Look at the Man---focusing on the heart of the man and how his story connects with your own lifeWednesday: His Legacy in Scripture---a Bible study on principles revealed through the life of the manThursday: His Legacy of Promise---Bible promises that apply to his life and yoursFriday: His Legacy of Prayer---praying in light of his storyDesigned for personal prayer and study or for use in small groups, Men of the Bible will help you make Bible reading a daily habit. Whether you dip into portions or read every page, this book will help you grow in character, wisdom, and obedience as a person after God's own heart. ... Read more

I purchased this book for my husband, who is a new Christian. He is not very familiar with the Bible and found the idea of reading the Bible very daunting. My husband loves Men of the Bible, he has found it very helpful in helping him understand the Bible and how it relates to our everyday life. This is a great devotional tool.

3-0 out of 5 stars Open Minded
I am a women/mother reading this book.I am currently only 1/2 done with this book.My father in-law gave it to my husband....., his was not too thrilled to receive or read it.As a mother to two boys (16 & 12) and two daughters (7 year old twins).I am very intrigued by the book.If nothing else to understand why some folks beleive like they do.There are some great points in it....BUT, I do not beleive you have to be this "strick" or "conservative" to have a happy, healthy, family/marriage.Men and women need their time and space.Together, apart, alone.I do not beleive you should "burn" every ship in order to "be good".Common sense, accountablity and trust.....that is what matters.May beleive differently once I finish......

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
I highly recommend this book for any christian man who is looking for a guide to living the christian lifestyle.And if you are not religious this book gives you some good pointers on the man woman relationship as well as how you can interact with your children.Very inspiring book you will not be disappointed.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good introductory resource
Point Man, by Steve Farrar, is a book about the role of men as spiritual leaders of their families.It describes the importance of leading as fathers and husbands as it relates to sexual identity, fidelity in marriage, training children, and spiritual disciplines.It discusses the need for men to be physically present in the home in order to influence their family.He concludes by stressing the needs for men to be solid "rocks" as the foundation of their homes as well as role models for their family members.

To begin, Farrar identifies the attack points that Satan uses to destroy men - their marriages and their parenting.Satan attempts to divide and conquer families as a means to destroy individuals.So Farrar stresses the importance of staying faithful in marriage.He does not hold back when he describes the seriousness of adultery.He notes that every man is susceptible to abandoning his wife and betraying her by having sex with another person.Especially relevant was his observation that, among Christian leadership, God often requires a "character test" of sexual integrity that will continue to surface until a man passes the test.Until then, God cannot use him as a leader or bless his ministry.

He proceeds to discuss the need for leaders to be spiritually "fit" men.He emphasizes the need for men who are not "anorexic" by not feeding on the Word of God or "bulimic" by never applying the Bible to their lives.He continues by emphasizing the need for men to engage in regular prayer.These two components - prayer and Bible study/application - are the core values for men who aspire to be leaders in their homes.All need some form of spiritual exercise.

Farrar then talks about the teamwork needed between a husband and a wife as they juggle the responsibilities of keeping the 747 of their family aloft.As pilot and co-pilot, they must practice mutual understanding, accountability, and submission.He distinguishes between a complementarian view of spiritual leadership in the home and male authoritarianism.Ultimately, the husband is charged to model the type of understanding, accountability, and submission he has to Jesus in order to make it easy for the wife to be understanding, accountable, and submitted to him.

Regarding parenting, he then examines Eph 6:4 as a structure for how fathers can treat their children in a way that positively affects their sexual identities.By balancing fairness, tenderness, firmness with the ways of the Lord, fathers can point the compass to direct their children to find their identity in who God made them as male or female.Farrar then spends an entire chapter with a very personal story encouraging fathers to take the initiative to talk to their children about sex.

This book is a useful introductory book that sets the foundation for the need of male leadership in the home.Point Man is not a comprehensive book on men's issues, nor is it an in-depth study on marriage or parenting "how-to."It strongly emphasizes the need for faithfulness in marriage, the need for Bible study and prayer, and a complementarian framework of the family.As such, it does provide the beginnings of its subtitle, "How a Man Can Lead His Family."A man reading this would conclude, "To lead my family, I need to be faithfully committed to my wife, I need to study my Bible and pray regularly, and I need to parent my child according to Eph 6:4."Now, there are more detailed applications of how to do these things, but it is very basic material.For example, on how to not embitter your children, he briefly describes each in this list, "By over-protection, by favoritism, by discouragement, by forgetting that the child is growing up, by neglect, and by bitter words and outright physical cruelty" (188-190).Again, there is only so much Farrar can do in this 235 page book.

The strengths of this book are many.Its gripping introduction of leading an ambushed patrol in the jungles of Vietnam and its frequent analogies to concrete images (flying a 747 with your wife, giving your kids a compass) make this a book that men might actually read!It is not too academic or theoretical to be grasped and enjoyed.Further, the personal stories by Farrar about how he told his own son about sex or his descriptions about how to avoid lusting over porn at the airport take specific imperatives ("Be faithful to your wife; don't even lust.") and give it a step-by-step, real-life flavor.I could see and identify with the scenarios Farrar described, and I imagine other men would be able to as well.

The biggest weakness of this book is its conclusion.How is one supposed to implement these ideals?What should a reader do next to begin? In the study guide edition, Point Man does provide some good discussion questions for a small group setting.But if one does not have the study guide edition or a small group to discuss with, then the reader is left with only a vague sense of direction.

This book would be best suited for a men's small group, although it would have limited application for singles.But amongst married men and/or fathers, Point Man is good for initiating a discussion and flushing out what male leadership looks like at home.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Very Special Collection of Teachings
This book gave me back my buddy, my pal, my teenaged son. After some difficult experiences as a parent with my son, I required that he read, outline and create a book report on this book prior to his regaining control of his car keys. After several months of testing my resolve, he finally began the journey. He not only completed "in spades!" the task, but he bought and delivered several copies to his friends for their edification. The teachings are still with him today (+/-7 years later).

It may be hard to find, but so are the results that you may seek. It's worth the effort!

Product Description
Take up a new calling. Walk a new path. And experience life’s greatest adventure.

Will you discover your true reason for living, enter the battle, and become a new man in Christ? Or will you settle for less? To live more purposefully, to experience a full life, to become more, you will have to become someone else and walk a new path.

This kind of attitude is what the Navy Seals look for in a man: Rogue warriors. Unconventional. Committed. Guys who will do anything to win the battle and stay true to their new identities. Walking this new path requires men who won’t shrink from the battle.

In spirit, the Apostle Paul was this kind of a rogue warrior for God’s kingdom. He was tough and uncompromising and he held to a code that marked his life. He lived on purpose, not by accident. He surrendered his life and became a support for others. If you choose to become this kind of man made new, unwilling to compromise, then let this great apostle lead the way.

Special Features:
·Practical studies facilitate personal encounters with God and other men
·Questions encourage genuine reflection and help build godly convictions
·“Real Life” case studies show how the truths you discover have worked out in other men’s lives
·“Standing Strong” section gives you the opportunity to form and express your action steps with God and your group ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Works well for new groups
This book is a great first study for new men's groups.The series is wonderful but some of the other titles are more appropriate for groups who have met for a while.

5-0 out of 5 stars Solid study for men that are beginning their walk w/ Christ as well as the more developed
As I was looking for some solid bible study materials for my men's small group, I found the "Every Man" series and gave the guys a list of the titles and this was what the majority of them chose as the one they wanted to go through.At first, I was apprehensive because of reading the description and figuring that it was more for men seeking Jesus for the first time, but as time went on, I couldn't believe how much it was speaking to me.

While it follows the same format as the others of the series, the questions and the passages (Romans) they go through really help you understand the struggle we have w/ sin as well as what God has given us to combat it.There's also another book in the series that picks up in Romans where this book leaves off.

If you're looking for material for any type of men's group, use one of the titles from The Every Man Series.If you are interested in how to defeat sin and why sin is ample in our lives, choose this particular title. ... Read more

Product Description
“I’ve worked hard to get where I am. I’ve overcome great obstacles. I’ve earned it.” No one had a greater right to say those statements more than King David. He rose from the fields of Palestine to the palace of power and privilege. He’d made it. But now that he was on top, would he continue to grow spiritually in the midst of his success?

Self-sufficiency is a temptation every man faces. But we can’t be both self-sufficient and on the move spiritually at the same time. Just as in David’s life, God often allows us to experience the consequences of self-sufficiency so that we can rediscover our need for his leadership and empowerment in our lives. In the end, the crushing blows we face serve to humble us…and forge the basis for the next wave of spiritual momentum in our lives. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Four Pillars of a Man's Heart
I ordered seven copies of this book for a Church Small Group from the folowing vendors: (1) Green Earth Books - Ordered Two - Received Two in Good to Very Good condition(2)Thrift Books - Ordered One - Received One in Very Good Condition. (3)Books Squared - Ordered Two - Received Two - One in Good Condition - One in Poor Condition and should never have been shipped to me.Several pages had been torn out of the book and then reset into the book with page numbers out of sequence.I should not have to pay for this book based on its condition.I was not able to use it for my Small Group because of its condition. Also, all 7 books were sent from the same address:5103D St. NW #103, Auburn, WA 98001 yet I was charged $3.99 for each book for shipment.Why wouldn't the shipping costs be combined and reduced since I ordered 7 books from same address?This is the first problem I've encountered with books ordered from Amazon and I'm very disappointed.Our church does not have the budget to cover the cost of these books, even at this reduced price, and I paid for them out of my pocket.I'm still taking ministerial classes myself and am going to try to find another outlet for my additional textbooks based on this bad experience.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book for men
I've done men's ministry for many years and this work by Stu Weber is one of the best resources for a productive men's study.
Stu is right on with this.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best books for Christian men ever written
I loved Tender Warrior deeply, but this one surpassed it. His illustrations were unfailingly poignant and insightful, his writing superb, the points profound. This is one of those books that I wish was handed out at the door of every church. A lot of attention has been rightly focused on how the church needs to be more outwardly focused, but that starts with becoming inwardly focused, and the men in the congregation need to realize their calling.

5-0 out of 5 stars Life changing
This book gives biblical principles for being a better husband and father as well as the tools to acheive this. He gives well written anecdotes as well as episodes from his own life as illustrations. I could not recommend this book more highly. It is well written with godly wisdom for all men aspiring to be a better husband, father, or person.

1-0 out of 5 stars corrupt
Sadly, this work corrupts the Jungian "Warrior, King, Lover, Magician" model.The "Warrior" and "King" are given a very fundamentalist, even republican political, interpretation.The "Lover" and "Magician" are replaced by "Friend" and "Mentor", ultimately leaving the feminine side entirely for what are actually manifestations of the "King."What is left is a corrupt, unbalanced, un-whole view of masculine wholeness. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great book for small groups discussions
We used this book as part of our small group discussions.....It turned out to be a great book as it brings out matters that pertain to men and their responsibilities as leader's of there home, business, church.......

5-0 out of 5 stars Inspirational
Bill does it again.This book inspires men to take a leadership role in every aspect of there lives instead of just sitting back and waiting for the next guy to exact a positive change in society.He also walks one through the step-by-step process on how to realize these goals.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
This book had a most promising title.I was planning to give this book to a male family member who needs to step up to the plate and lead spiritually.Having read the book however, I felt that it was not particularly inspiring.In addition, one quote kept me from giving the book to its intended recipient.Footnote 12 of chapter 10, in my opinion, was taken way out of context and, quite honestly, was irrelevant to the point of the book.Taken to its logical conclusion -- that financial management of the home is best left to men -- this could be quite detrimental in homes where the husband is financially clueless and the wife is the one gifted in numbers & financial understanding.True spiritual leadership empowers gifted people to use their gifts in whatever arena they are gifted and is not threatened by their expertise. ... Uses scriptural analysis, prayer, and study questions to explore God's will and His process of refining an ordinary man into an extraordinary agent of God.
Amazon.com Review
Recent years have seen a marked spiritual awakening among Christian men. The Man God Uses by Henry and Tom Blackaby is a guidebook for Christian men who seek to follow God's will in their homes, offices, churches, and communities. In the book's preface, Henry Blackaby (author of the bestselling Experiencing God) observes that "Men's hearts are feeling a tremendous surge of God's activity today. It is as if God has announced: 'The world has had my people long enough! I am calling them back to me. I will mold them and shape them for my purposes in my world!'" The Man God Uses outlines a seven-week course of scriptural study, including prayer suggestions and questions to be answered in a daily journal. Equally useful for men studying alone or in small groups, The Man God Uses will help many readers attune themselves to God's presence in their daily lives and discern God's will for their futures. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Good book
The book is being used in a small group study.It is working out great.I was happy to find the book at a great price and received it short time in almost like new condition (only a few pencil marks).We have only completed the first chapter, but the material has led toward interesting discussion.I look forward to learning and completing the material, but the book has already been well worth the price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another great read from Blackaby
This is the second book from Blackaby I have read; the first being "Experiencing God."God is definitely using these two men in mighty ways for His kingdom.If any man wants to deepen his walk with God, this book is a must.I plan on buying a few more copies to give out at Christmas.I can't think of a better gift to give than giving my friends a book that WILL change their walk with Christ.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource
We just started the first chapter in a business mens group and its been a great challenge, most of the men have been beeliever for quite some time, and the feedback has been great.Although at times very deep and needing some serious time of reflection to take it all in, its an excellent resource to grow you men (of any age or stage in their walk) to a stronger walk with the Lord, challenging you to be more like the master!

Our group is going over this book and meeting every 2 weeks.

I think I prefer the workbook version, this is not the same, this is a complete book with a coupe challenge questions at the end.

The workbook is has much more in the way of self examining questions, but might be more intimidating to some based on the pace and number of questions.

There is a leaders guide with an accompanied dvd as well, we only recently found it and ordered it, so I cant say how helpful it wil be.

I would highly recommend this resource to anyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars THe Man God Uses
I am currently reading this book with a small group of men I meet with weekly.It is a great book to help in understanding God's refining process for men and the different ways he uses us for His divine purpose.Blackaby bases his book on scripture and not his own ideas.I am finding it a very good read and quite enlightening.It is helpful to have examples of current events that demonstrate how God uses men today.What a privilege to be used by God to help others.

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW - Very moving book for Men and small groups
I have been going through this book with my men's small group and it has been great!I have been leading small groups through various different books and studies through the bible for over 10 years and this has been the best study I have found so far.I already ordered another set of books to start another small group in our church.This is a great study to get men on the right track to a relationship with God.Very convicting and inspiring study. 1-0 out of 5 stars Not recommended.
This book was crap.Heavy use of antiquated stereotypes that don't fit the modern woman - or man, for that matter.The population the authors use in their research is from their own clients, which means the results of their surveys are heavily skewed - a fact that is either overlooked or not understood by the authors.If I didn't have to read the book as part of my research for a book I'm ghostwriting, I would not have made the purchase at all - or at least would have returned the book after reading the first chapter.

5-0 out of 5 stars Men need changing?????
I liked this book.It is written in a manner to be approachable to many men.They use the toolbox as a metaphor on aspects of relationships.The toolbox makes this subject more approachable than other texts I've read.The gist is that men are are innately expert in 6 aspects of relationships, (fact giving, fact finding, take charge, task oriented, problem solving, competitive drive), while women are innately expert in a different 6, (open sharing, patient listening, win-win, selfless honor, time and energy).

The authors make no bones that each individual is imbued with differing levels of the 12, but they offer extremes or gender generalizations to illustrate the topics.Each reader will have to determine how expert they are with each tool.This ground has been ploughed before with John Gray's book, "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus", among others.The topics is approached from a different point of view, with thisone being Christian/bible based.

One main point of the book is that to be a complete person, as illustrated by Christ's examples is to be expert in all the tools.All the tools are need to form complete, sustained, and fulfilled relationships.The 6 "female" tools being that areas for development for men.

I could be overly sensitive, but I'm bothered bythe hidden assumption that men need fixing.I struggle with a society that seems to assume that men are in need of fixing, hence the number of books that strive to help men.There seems to be fewer books to help women develop their lesser areas.I suppose if you accept the biblical proposition that men are the leaders of the family and the body of Christ, the onus is on us to to seize the opportunity.It would be nice if some one said that the other gender needs some help too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Men's Relational Toolbox
This book is a great tool for the man that would like to better his relations with his family and friends.It has a lot of thoughts and ideas for improving your relationship, especially with your spouse. It's a great book for a group of men to study together to become a better person.I think that every man should read this book and it would not hurt for every woman to read it too.I believe that it would help make better relations between both sex.

5-0 out of 5 stars Get It
This book is a quick read, but it very comfortably covers a lot of important topics. Contrary to one of the reviews on the site, it tries very hard not to belittle men.Of course the authors are men.It starts with the premise that men are designed by God to do certain things well, lead, protect, and problemsolve, and that men get into relational trouble when they bring the "tools" of these trades and try to apply them in a relationship.Together with "Wild at Heart" by John Elderidge, it is a good kick in the pants to become the man God intends you to be.

2-0 out of 5 stars not all men are born ingnorant
I just wanted to point out that not all men are the way described in toolbox.Many of us don't watch television and film just to gather the facts.I read books all of the time, dear Smalleys, and there is no shortage of imagination or empathy in my blood.A book called WHY WOMEN LISTEN AND MEN DONT (or something) is written by a couple that tries to convince readers that when men listen they are expressionless and women are lighted by facial gestures in contrast.Michael Moore, in his book STUPID WHITE MEN (very cool read), comments that men are ugly and disgusting(especially their genitals) and bent only on destroying everything.He goes on to say that women are the earth's way of making up through stunning beauty and childbirth.Someone should have told Mike that women cant have children without men, alot of females walking the earth are not the models that sell products with sexuality(men have very stunning physics when they're healthy aswell), and men are not all the same!This is my main problem with toolbox and worse male writers who slander men and their supposed shared psyche of misogynistic possessiveness. If men are miscommunicative then how on earth did they build a relationship in the first place.Some women have been known to share this same "male" trait of troubled bonding with a male.My point is that such a broad generalization does not account for the countlessmen and women who share a different relationship than the cliched ones in toolbox and the like.It just seems that the Smalleys were trying to cash in on something that can rarely be changed in an established coupling without a depthy visit to the ole marriage counsellor. ... The objective of this book is great, but I felt that the author took too long in getting to subjects that would grab the attention of his target audience.

I bought this book for my son's 15th birthday and asked him to read it as a favor to me.I read it myself before giving it to him and, while the messages within were very positive, the initial ones came across as preachy.I was tempted to put the book down myself early on, but I am glad I kept reading.

5-0 out of 5 stars Proudpapa
I purchased this for my son who is a junior in H.S.After reading it, I gladly handed over to him for his use.Money well spent!

3-0 out of 5 stars It is a great and inspirational book for youth
My son read this and seem to be impressed and attentive to the writer views since he is of African ethnicity and can relate to what young black males go through. I really considered the fact that for a person to take the time and write a book concerning the need to relate and instill his value system in teenagers that he sees himself through, his heart has to be passionate for males that are walking in the path he has traveled. I applaud him to want to reach back to the community. I think his book should have been publicized and promoted more for the mainstream crowd more and it was not. Perhaps that should have even been a few given free to allow the people that may want some inspiration (postive) to be able to read it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fatherly advice - Full of wisdom
I do a chapel service in a Juvenile Detention Center in the Bronx, and this book is the first book that I have found that I feel would be VERY helpful to the boys.

The reason is - it is broken down in a very simple fashion that is super easy to read, designed for one that may have a short attention span and doesn't typically read a lot, and is very practical and directive as to why and how to get onto a good path.

I am so grateful to this author for creating such a wonderful loving tool so full of wisdom.It has no hint of being condescending, which I also love.

Mr. Whyte
I just finished reading your book, "LETTERS TO YOUNG BLACK MEN" and I am writing to commend you and thank you for writing it. I am making a list of folks that will be getting your book as a Christmas gift. And that includes my own two sons. Thank you for the manner/style that it was written in; personable, real, to the point, and with obvious love. I imagine that this writing style will easily be accepted from a male point of view. From a female point of view, it really touched my heart. I have a son who is currently in prison, 16 years, but will be coming home soon. Your book, along with a few others, i.e; the BIBLE, will give instruction and help to get him re-started in the right direction
Thank you again and God bless.

Product Description
All too often, it seems, we hear of yet another Christian whose secret sins have come to light. Good men make bad choices, and far too many marriages and ministries have crumbled because of moral failure.

But it doesn't have to be this way. God designed us to be in close relationships with other men who can help us guard against making painful mistakes. Such companions can also walk with us in our pursuit of the healthy spirituality that should mark the life of every Christian man.

Authenticity, vulnerability, honesty and trust do not come naturally. If we are to develop lives of integrity and spiritual growth, we must cultivate healthy relationships with other brothers on the journey. Tom Eisenman lays the groundwork for building friendships of camaraderie and relational depth, casting a vision for interdependence and spiritual vitality where no man stands alone.

Perfect for use by men's groups, small groups or one-on-one accountability relationships, this handy guide includes straight-to-the-point questions that will help you keep one another walking with integrity. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The Accountable Man - a book for the comman man
"The Accountable Man by Tom Eisenman surprised me by being rather relaxed in how it addresses accountability between Christian men. Instead of being overly stern it takes a more relational tone that I think would encourage men to build accountability into their relationships instead of avoiding accountability.

One thing I wish Mr. Eisenman had addressed is wounds in a man's life, which can affect his willingness to trust other men.

As a whole I do recommend this book! ... Read more
