From the supplier: Math and science teachers at the Niagara Falls School District in NY are being encouraged to emphasize conceptual skills rather than mastery of individual tasks. The district has implemented a technology-based solution that encompasses math and science curricula for grades K-12. Using a network, a group of collaborating instructors will disseminate their newly-designed units electronically to classrooms throughout the district. The district is using Edunetics' Rediscover Science and Rediscover Mathematics systems. Classes spend up to 30 percent of their time with the core lessons, which are organized around theme and content area. Teachers can then draw on a collection of lab activities and projects. The series demonstrates real-life relevance of mathematics and science. The software lets teachers plan units and activities, view progress data, and grade work. The system permits teachers to view aggregates of student progress and other dynamics of the learning process.

An excellent mathematics reference book for late elementary or early middle school children
Students in late elementary school reach the point where they now have enough mathematical background so that they need reference materials. Those reference materials are basic, generally definitions and a short historical background. This book provides the references necessary for students in late elementary and middle school to understand and explore mathematics.
A large number of figures, graphs and tables are used to demonstrate the concepts. The basic arithmetic operations, statistical computations, probability, measurements and fundamental geometric figures are all covered. Written in clear concise text, a short set of review problems is included at the end of the sections. An answer key to the review problems, a glossary and an index together form the last section.
This book is a simple, effective reference book for the basic mathematical concepts. It is worthy addition to any elementary school library.

Not worth it. Useless
Useless book for a grade 2 kid. it is a book for parents not for the child. One has to read and give instructions to the kid to make mathematical observations during our daily lifes. what a piece of S**T. Not even worth a $1.00 i paid plus $3.99 shipping. Don.t buy this book.

As a tutor
In my spare time I work as a math tutor.Currently I have a few grade school students who use the Everyday Mathematics program.Since I do not have all the materials that the teachers have, knowing what exactly to tell the kids can be difficult at time.Luckily for me and my students, Everyday Mathematics provides a student reference book.With the aid of this book, reinforcing the lesson at home is much easier and much more effective.

I came across this book almost a year ago now.I didn't think much of it at the time, but as worked progressed (I am a grade school math books editor myself) I found that the UCSMP Everyday Mathematics Student Reference Book was superior to the text that I was currently working on.Its now disappointing to see my publsiher work they way they do, but reassuring to know that some people still care enough to put out a quality product. ...
