For example, physical geography relies heavily on geology, meteorology, and oceanography. Human geography examines humanitys adaptation to the constantly changing forces of nature, focusing on such issues as population distributions, technology, language, race, location theory, settlement patterns, economic patterns, and resource use systems. Cartography (mapping) is an indispensable tool of the discipline. Employment opportunities are available for geographers in local, state, and federal agencies concerned with regional planning and environmental impact. Industry employs geographers as researchers, analysts, and consultants. Geography students who complete the teacher education option will be eligible for social studies certification. The Geography major requires 36 credit hours of Geography courses. Up to three regional courses may be counted toward the major. One statistics course is required and may be used for general education requirements. Students considering graduate work in Geography should develop skills in computer science.

This was in addition to periods of routine military training provided for all ranks. Most senior officers enlisted or who were appointed with commissioned rank straight into the RAAF received little or no military training. From 18 July 1941 to 13 July 1945, eleven male officers' forecasting courses were completed. During 1943, selected personnel of commissioned and noncommissioned ranks were trained in the use and operation of radiosonde which had become available. Mainly because of careful selection, failure rates in courses were low, most being in the forecasting and radiosonde courses. These courses were rigorously searching, and had to be completed in a restricted period, far shorter than would have been the case in peace time. Assessment was usually terse and to the point. Extractions: Rounds Hall Rainbow The Natural Science Department of Plymouth State College offers a four year program leading to a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Meteorology. Plymouth is the only institution in the state of New Hampshire to have such a major. The Plymouth meteorology program meets or exceeds all of the recommended guidelines set for undergraduate degree programs by the American Meteorological Society and its graduates possess the prerequisite course background required for employment as entry level forecasters in the National Weather Service. Although there are elective courses within the major, the meteorology degree program basically consists of the single, traditional track, well grounded in the sciences and mathematics. It prepares students to continue professionally or academically in nearly any field of meteorology or atmospheric sciences. Nearly 30% of PSC students continue their education in graduate programs throughout the country. Most of the rest of PSC meteorology alumni work as professional meteorologists. Class sizes for major courses and other important required courses (e.g. physics, mathematics, etc.) are generally small (~15 to 35 students) and students can receive a great deal of assistance from a very dedicated and professional faculty. This is an important consideration when weighing the options of various meteorology programs.

Extractions: METEOROLOGY at SUNY Brockport The Meteorology major is intended to be a professional track to prepare students for a career as a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, governmental agencies, the military services, private meteorological and engineering firms, or for graduate study in the atmospheric sciences. The strong physical science orientation of the program prepares students to enter numerous related fields, including environmental science, hydrology, and wind and solar energy utilization. Designed to provide a sound basis for the student with strong aptitude and interest in mathematics and physical sciences as applied to the atmosphere, this plan of study may be oriented toward a special interest area by the appropriate choice of electives. Upper-level students with appropriate training and demonstrated ability are encouraged to participate in faculty research or work on their own research projects with appropriate faculty guidance.
