Product Description
Peter takes you on a journey when he applies to become a lighthouse keeper. His first 6 months are spent learning his trade as a Supernumerary Lightkeeper ...A Spare Man... where he visits 5 lighthouses around the coast of Scotland.
He is not alone on that journey as Margaret and their two girls join him on the adventure when he is posted to Inchkeith Lighthouse on an island and part of a group of lighthouses serving the Firth of Forth. Margaret and the children live amongst the other wives and families in the community of keepers living in Savesen Crescent, Edinburgh while their menfolk are out on the lighthouses.
Peter in true traditions of the service and what has come to be expected of his role tells of his exploits when he meets the humerous, romantic and sometimes surreal aspects of his job.
Margaret takes up the story and tells what it was like for her and the children being in a lighthouse family.
Lighthouse keepers and their families live a nomadic life and soon they are traferred to the Mull of Galloway, where they find their own idyllic piece of heaven on earth giving rise to the tilte of the book ...Star of the Four Kingdoms... Scotlands most southerly point offers scenic views of four kingdoms and the powerful light shines over all.
There is a magical atmoshere about the Mull and it is not long before Margaret becomes pregnant and their Son Gavin is born, they are not the only ones blest as when new arrivals at the station experience the same phenomena and they too conceive a son within weeks of arriving.
For five wonderful years they enjoy the bliss that the Mull offers, then overnight thier dreams are shattered as a decision is made to discontinue the foghorn. Peter and the rest of the lighthouse crew apart from the Principal Keeper find their jobs redundant. Peter's days in the service are numbered but it will be five more years and two more lighthouses before Peter's service comes to an end.

5-0 out of 5 stars Life in the Scottish Lighthouse Service.
The memories of a Lighthouse Keeper serving Scotland's rocky seas.

Peter Hill in his newly published book recounts his life from the day he joined the Scottish Lighthouse Service. He recounts his experiences with so much clarity that you feel that you are alongside him taking part, even better you will enjoy the experience.

Lighthouse keeping is a way of life that has disappeared today, nearly all the worlds lighthouses are automated, so the content of this book is historically valuable in telling the story of what it was once like to be a keeper. The author tells the story well too, and thoughtfully, he also invited his wife to add a chapter to the story telling us what it was like to be the wife of a lighthouse keeper. I found the whole book to be well written and very interesting. Recommended good read.

“I am not sure that you can hear me.  I am not sure if you are still near to me, somewhere in the dark.  I am not even sure that you are still alive.  Last night, I heard you sobbing.  The night before, I heard you scream when they came for you.  Perhaps it was your screams, later on, that were punctuated by my own.  Perhaps you cannot hear me, perhaps you will not comprehend the words that I am using.  Perhaps you are not there at all.  Still, I will continue to shout out my confession, to you and to the One God, as long as my voice persists.  Would that I could write, but there is no vellum, no ink, no light.  My arms are chained to the prison wall, spread above me.  It is futile, futile.  But, perhaps, if you can hear me, perhaps, if you can comprehend, my memory will live on for another year, another day, another hour.  My time grows shorter now.  I can hear the drums beating, the drunken peasants cheering.  Even in this dungeon there is the sickening smell of burning flesh.  They have already begun their festival day.  Soon, perhaps, I may be served up for their amusement.

“What they did to my mother was unspeakable, and yet, if we do not speak of it, how will we ever know, ever learn, ever stop that horror?  So I will speak of things that should not be spoken, tell of things that should not be told, reveal the mysteries that must remain forever hidden.  And you, hanging in the cell next to me, my unseen, unknown companion, you cannot run away from me, you cannot cover your ears.  You can, perhaps, scream loudly enough to drown out my exposition.  But, I pray you, do not be too hasty to condemn, too quick to turn away, too eager to avert your sensibilities from what I am about to say.”

Hanging in a dungeon cell, waiting for the bonfire, Fiona screams out her confession.  And what a tale it is.  Her sins are numerous and exotic.  There is hardly a taboo she has not broken, a forbidden pleasure she has not sampled.   She tells it all with intense longing and regret.  Her last few months have been full of danger and adventure, loss and discovery, lust and horror, love and loathing, revelation and betrayal.  She has learned the dark secrets of the ancients.  She has tasted their power, their knowledge, their utter depravity.  She has yielded to utter degradation.  What has she become – monster, goddess, slave, assassin, whore, something of all of these?  Will her life be a blessing, or a curse, or will it simply end here, futilely, burned at the stake?  Brace yourself for A Witch’s Tale.

1-0 out of 5 stars Bogus isn't a strong enough word
Africa is not an indigenous word, so it's not possible that there ever was a prophet named Afra from this continent. Besides the small fact that none of the indigenous faiths of Africa mention him. How could they manage to store thousands of years of spiritual science but all collectively forget to mention a man, a prophet no less, that they all shared? lol Simple. Its not possible.

So we have a person for whom there is no historical origin. And a person for whom there is no oral history. A person that no one except this author thinks even existed. Yeah.....right.

This book is clearly a hoax. There are quite a few documented prophets from Africa. Several in fact. But I guess if you're unfamiliar you'd see this book and be duped.

5-0 out of 5 stars A son of Light reviews
The knowledge of the depth and grandure of the work of the Brotherhood and its ministrations is needed for the enlightenment and survival of this planet.

4-0 out of 5 stars Give us more
As a soul harboing an African-American body I can tell you that reading this book was refreshing. I only have two problems with it: one, the fact that it was so short and, two, the idea of Afra having to ask to be called a brother. I would hope that all beings of light and love are aware of the fact that we are ALL God's children. Out side of that, I found the book to be very inspirational. ... Read more

In The Chain Letter, Dr. Tad Summers is once again called upon to help the police solve a series of unsolved and mysterious deaths. The only clue in each case is that each victim before they died, received a plain white looking envelope in the mail. When they open up the mail they die.

Even though each of the victims appeared to have been frightened to death and apparently died with a very distorted look on his/her face, the police find the letter inside of the envelope it is completely blank. There was nothing absolutely written at all on it. The police are baffled and ask for Summers' help. He quickly concludes that they are scared to death but there is nothing on the blank sheet of paper in the envelope. How could that be? Even Summers is confused by the twists of his own discernment.

Now the entire population of Southern California is scared to open their mail. Who will be next, what can they do, and more importantly what real intent of this disastrous plot? Now your favourite team of college professors, Dr. Melanie Marsh and Dr. Tad Summers are on the trail of fresh clues when they are led right back to their college. Could an institution of higher learning become the killing fields of the 21st century, or will Summers be able to figure out the mystery before the killer strikes again. It is murder, mayhem, and sex as Summers and Marsh wonder if the law can't protect you who can?

This is where Melanie and Dr. Tad Summers really begin to sizzle in the latest book from Nadalia Bagratuni, The Chain Letter.

Justin Imperiale returns from Ifrequeh, after winning battles against Warlords there.  He's managed to acquire a third scroll and he begins to try to acquire the knowledge contained in the scroll.

Once again, He finds drug smugglers operating in his territory.  Justin figures out a way to defeat them and also a way to obtain the high tech mini submarines that the drug smugglers were using.  In addition, he raids the ship that's smuggling in the drugs and obtains a valuable cargo.

The real source of the drug smuggling leads to the nation of Dunvar and also to the Dunvar based Union Mining operation.  Trouble brews.

With the drug smuggling problem solved, Justin then must travel back to the South Continent, where some of the eastern nations are enslaving the jungle people.  Justin, a few Commandos, Tapu, the men of Glyon and a few politicians then travel to the plantations where the jungle people are held as slaves.  Justin and the warriors then free at least most of the jungle people.  Justin also tells the jungle people how they can remain free.  There's a major problem, when one plantation tries to hold jungle people as hostages.  Justin and the warriors then solve the problem and build the legend of the King of The Sky.

Helgryn, one of Justin's Kingdoms then seizes a shipload of illegal drugs.  The drugs were apparently owned by Union Mining and trouble with Dunvar looms.

Colod, the country just to the North of the Empire decides to start a war.  Colod has a powerful army and an air force.  Colod was able to remain free of the ancient Empire, via force or arms, and war with Colod would appear to be a major problem for the Empire.

Justin notes that the problems that the ancient Empire had with Colod were due to the use of conventional tactics by the ancient Empire.  Justin decides to use unconventional tactics and launches a pre-emptive strike.  The pre-emptive strike works, to a degree.  However, there are many problems remaining.

The situation in Colod is still being resolved when it's reported that Dunvar has forced the nation of Ariby to allow only Dunvar to sell the oil of Ariby to the world.

Justin then begins to seize tanker ships containing the oil that Dunvar is attempting to sell.  The process that Justin uses is legal, but Dunvar wants a full hearing before the Association of Nations.  The request for a hearing is an obvious attempt to tie up Justin's time.

Justin figures that the Dunvar request for a hearing is to keep him from Ariby.  Justin flies to Ariby and finds major problems there.  The solution to the problems is simple, all Justin has to do is to fight and win a duel against a demi-god.

Jim Owen is a damn good computer programmer, but he isn't a people person. He is, once again, stuck in a terrible job situation.  His boss, Dave, has disappeared and instead of him taking over managing his department, he-s asked to train his new boss....Jim is not a happy camper...

The FBI comes in and interviews each of the people with security clearances who were working for Dave.  However, no one really knows anything at all about the guy. Jim then becomes involved with the wrap up of his Dave's estate, and learns some things about the man.  He invariably comes up with an idea as to where Dave might have gone.

Jim then gets called into a meeting by his government customer.  The government people tell him that his ex-boss had very important classified information and the government has to find him.  In addition, the government isn't happy with Jim's employer.  It dawns on Jim, that if he can find his ex-boss, he can run his own company.  Jim, while not a people person, is ambitious and willing to do just about anything to run his own company.

He then meets with the FBI and tells them that he thinks he knows where Dave probably went.  Jim's idea is wild and based on speculation. However, it's the only lead the FBI has.  Jim then meets with a special FBI squad and convinces them that his idea is good.

There is a problem.  Jim is the only one who can positively identify Dave, therefore, he is drafted to go to Chile to find Dave.  The mission to find Dave is in trouble from the start.  One of the FBI squad is murdered on the plane down to Chile.  Jim is a kung-fu guy, as well as a programmer and he kills the guy who murdered his FBI teammate.

The FBI team, plus amateur Jim then arrive in Chile.  The experts are all known to people in Chile as well as some Chinese hard boys.  Only Jim is unknown.  Things begin to break down.  The FBI team is betrayed by their own government, possibly due to stupidity, probably betrayed by the Chilean government and hunted by the Chinese.

The FBI team discovers that Jim is not only unknown to the other side, he also has about the same reaction to killing people as he has to eliminating bugs in his computer programs.  The action is fast, furious and deadly.

The FBI team finds and deals with Dave.  Now, reduced to just Jim and the FBI lady who heads the team, they are faced with the problem of getting back home. The trip home is as much of an adventure as the operation to find Dave.

Susan, the FBI lady who heads the team, speaks Spanish, can fly an airplane, can shoot straight and fast and can deal with people.  Jim is a systems analyst who can think his way through complex situations and he will kill anyone who tries to harm Susan, and quite a few people do try to harm her.  He has begun to have strong feelings for her.

With an outstanding joint effort, Susan and Jim manage to escape to Belize where they are joined by another FBI team. The action is not yet over, since the Chinese trace Susan and Jim to a stop on the way home.  When they finally arrive back home, Susan and Jim marry.  Jim begins to run his own company.

Jim is called in for a meeting with the FBI.  He was too violent and too vicious during the mission to Chile.  The FBI is very displeased and they don't want the same level of violence during Jim's next mission. Jim doesn't have to take the second mission, unless of course if he wants to keep getting government contracts for his new company.

ustin Imperiale has become the absolute monarch of the island of Fori Novor.  His rule has done so well for the island that the surrounding islands place themselves under his rule in order to survive economically.

Justin then flimflams the Association of Nations into letting him make the waters around his expanded kingdom of The Islands into the private property of the new kingdom of The Islands.

A dispute arises between The Islands and the kingdom of Zaya over the ownership of an uninhabited island.  In the process of flimflamming the Association of Nations into giving The Islands sovereignty over the disputed island, Justin is approached by Zayan rebels.

The Zayan rebels feel that they are misruled by the King of Zaya and basically slaves of drug dealers who infest the area of northern Zaya.  The Zayan rebels agree to make Justin King of Zaya if he can solve their problems.

Justin doesn't want to war with the drug dealers, so he adopts a simple strategy of stealing the drug dealers drugs and money.  As a result of the wealth transfer, the drug dealer empire collapses and Justin becomes the King of northern Zaya.

Justin's new title of King of Zaya pus him at conflict with the current King of Zaya.  A war is likely.  The old King has tanks and Justin has none.  Justin has the means to fight the old King's tanks, but then the tanks would be destroyed.  Justin decides to 'acquire' some of the old King's tanks and other armament.  Of course, since it's Justin, theft is in play.  However, the Zayan rebels also acquire some tanks.  The balance begins to swing in favor of Justin.

Justin reasons that the current King of Zaya lives in a palace in Zaya City and there's only one King in the palace.  Thus Justin feels that the right commando can take down the current King of Zaya and win the war.  As a result, a disguised Justin travels to Zaya City to take care of business.  The old King has heavily armed guards, Justin has mainly his wits.  It's not an even  match

The adventure continues.. Glarney Fered is growing younger with each life force that he consumes from those he's forced to kill in pursuit of his dreams, and is now almost half his original age.. He has managed to assume a new identity as Jahn Loght.  He has, under contract to the Primitive Culture Police, killed a dangerous criminal alien.  Now, the PCP wants to execute Jahn, because they know that he is a Kivosh who will try to acquire life force.

As Jahn, he escapes the PCP and recruits Risha to hit a casino operation, in which they take a lot of money. However,  Risha dies during the burglary.

Jahn then takes the long road and winds up with a lot of money in a large city, still wanted by the PCP, the police and a number of criminals.  Tracking an exotic drug, he contacts alien suppliers, talks them out of killing him and even gets them to sell him anti-gravity units that the aliens must have in order to operate profitably. Jahn begins to operate under disguise as 'the Devil' delivering high quality product which he acquires by theft. As the Devil's thefts start a drug war, he arranges to end it, for a price. In order to end the drug war, Jahn has to shoot up an alien spacecraft and eject before it crashes.  In a triumph of skill over stupidity, Jahn and his best pilot rid his suppliers of a very troublesome problem with another advanced culture, earn obscene amounts of money from the other product dealers, and set up governmental level connections with the government of his criminal alien suppliers.  He then begins a large scale air piracy operation against other product suppliers.

In order to really conduct a sky piracy operation, Jahn needs a base which he finds on the small impoverished island of Fori Novor.  However, Fori Novor is riddled with unrest, so Jahn decides that it needs a new King to stabilize it. As the only real candidate for King, now calling himself Justin Imperiale, he has to kill anyone who gets in his way.  King Justin then begins to run Fori Novor, creates new jobs and forms agreements with the large country of Averon, to allow Fori Novor to grow the spices that can only grow in their climate. With the criminals gone, Justin also sets up a tourist business.

The other nations of the planet Corin, where Justin lives come to him with a problem. It appears that person or persons have been ripping off ship cargoes, and reveal that the cargoes are illegal drugs. Justin agrees to 'solve the problem', but he has no intention of doing so, since he is the problem. However, he manages to deflect the blame to others.  The Kingdom of Fori Novor then faces invasion by sea from the major power of Zorran. Justin has two choices. He can use untried advanced technology at the risk of his life or let the PCP, the drug lords and/or various powerful governments in Corin kill him.

Pock-marked Kenny Lapin lives with his mother in a forlorn one bedroom apartment and sleeps on a fold out sofa.  His mother works as a part time receptionist, in which every month is a struggle to make ends meet.  Kenny Lapin would love nothing more than to be rich, so that he could be free to do and buy what he wants.  He would love to leave the suburban torture of Hayworth and flee to Southern California's eternal summer.

Instead he is forced to work at Benny Burger a fast food franchise and earn a paltry wage.  There he meets Kahina, a saucy and sophisticated girl who works the register and who he would like to get close to, and Javier with whom Kenny works with in the kitchen to closing time.  All of them are tyrannized by a twenty-something assistant manager, Greg Brewster.  On the top of Hamburger Heaven hen-picking order is Mel, a complete Panglossian idiot who thinks working at Benny Burger is a chance of life time.  When Greg Brewster punches Kenny and Mel out a half hour before they have finished closing, it is a rude awakening to how unfair the working world is.

To even things up, Kenny has no recourse but to steal from the store's safe on the biggest day in the restaurant's history...the day Benny Burger, the corporate clown comes to visit the franchise...

5-0 out of 5 stars Hamburger Heaven = Hamburger Hell
At one point in the late 1970's Henry Winkler and Ron Howard had optioned the book and were hoping to make it movie. When I talked to them I elaborated and told them I fashioned it after Joseph Heller's masterpiece "Catch Twenty-Two" in my case it was "Ketchup Twenty-Two."I was fascinated in portrayingthe militaristic aspects that overlap working in a fast food franchise. We all wear uniforms, we have our stations and one a hungry crowd overwhelms the store, it is like being attacked. I have since updated this moralistic fable. Finally you're making money, but, it is life and it is never enough especially with an insatiable greed our cultureinstills in us.We are brought up to believe that money will insure our happiness-and we do anything to get it.Even steal, but in the end, it is who we are that will make us happy or not. ... The reign of Fiona, Queen of the Fairies, is threatened by an unknown affliction. With most of her court and soldiers sick, she sends her only daughter to bring back the one man, a human, that she knows can save them. Titania bungles her first excursion to the world of the humans and instead of politely greeting him on the street collides with him in mid air and brings them both crashing to the ground.

Danny has enough magic power of his own and knowledge about fairies to realize he can not fight this inept youngster and goes with her to attempt the rescue. They are intercepted in flight and brought down by belligerent forces. Surviving the aerial combat, they walk across hostile territory meeting enemies in combat as they travel. Rescued at the edge of Fiona's territory by an airborne fairy patrol, Danny joins the effort to cure the population of a biological warfare attach by one of their enemies.

Expecting Fiona's military to have been weakened by the biological agent, the enemies attack the fairy castle. Danny's influence on the battle is profound and its influence on him is no less significant. He returns to the woman who has loved him with the new found understanding of his love for her. After an uncertain start, they band together to carry on the fight against those who would destroy them.

It is a tale of combat and resolution, but most of all it is about awakening love in an uncertain world.
