my Harmer book
Amazon has a great service (through its sellers). I got my book less than a week before ordered. The books is new and does not have any mark. Comparing amazon and other websites, this is cheaper and faster. The only thing I did not like was that I was subscribed to get my orders for free (no shipping) for a year, however when I order this book, I had to pay for shipment. It only comes to my mind that the seller is a nonparticipating company for this promotion.

The price seems weird
It's funny because I bought this book in Russia for about 600 roubles, which is roughly 20$.

This book is great, but the dvd in my book is covered with scratches.

Arrived within two weeks of purchase (Over Christmas period), in terrific condition.
The text itself is very thorougher and Jeremy has a knack for explaining thoughts and concepts relevant to someone considering the teaching (Tesol/Tefl/Esl etc) field. Though I've only begun my TESOL certificate, I feel this text will help enormously, as this completely revised edition has the added bonus of discussion on such subjects as:

Good little overview
Silberstein's book is a short overview of the main elements of teaching reading. These include nonprose reading, expository prose, editorialising and opinion, fiction, poetry, and songs. This is followed by a final chapter on developing instructional materials for use in the classroom.

She writes in a very engaging style which makes for easy reading, while being informative at the same time. My only complaint is that in her material on reading critically she does not mention that all books need to be read critically including her own.

Those looking for an in-depth analysis of any one type of reading would be better suited to look elsewhere as her information is necessarily brief given the 100 odd pages she had to work with. For those looking for an introduction it will serve well. Although she does provide a bibliography it would be helpful if she included a list of further reading materials at the end of each chapter. That would help those who are in need of more information and turn her book into a necessary starting place for those teaching reading. ... Read more

I had the older edition but needed the new one for a Grad. Class. I am so glad that I did! The updated information is great. I like the way that Duffy explains things so simply, to the point! Thorough, but the title was misleading for me
The book is very thorough about text features and defines them.It also explains each type of text in a simple manner to read.I perhaps didn't read the summary well enough to realize that it wasn't what I was looking for.I was looking for the the different types of text structure, (compare & contrast, sequence, etc).Just didn't want anyone else to make the same mistake as I did.The book is a wonderful and thorough reference for the two areas it targets!
