When we say "hosted by the Louisiana Department of Education," we truly mean what we say, for this conference has been an integrated and collaborative effort in funding, planning, staffing, and presentation of eight divisions in the Department: School Standards, Accountability, and Assistance - Regional Education Service Centers Student Standards and Assessment Special Populations Professional Development School and Community Support - Communications Educational Technology On December 1-3, 1999, the Louisiana Department of Education will host a school improvement conference - Reaching for Results: A Focus on Student Achievement-in New Orleans, at the Superdome/Hyatt Regency Schools whose School Performance Score (SPS) is below state average (69.4) according to the Louisiana accountability system and schools that have Comprehensive School Reform Demonstration (CSRD) models had first priority in registering for the conference. District Assistance Teams (DATs) serving schools in Corrective Actions I and schools hosting Distinguished Educators were also invited participants. Registrations were accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. District Accountability Contacts and DAT Contacts have been invited to attend the conference. As a conference participant, you will have an opportunity to hear and work first-hand with many of the leading experts in educational change, educational reform, and school improvement. Among our speakers are Judith Johnson, Assistant Secretary of Education (USDE); Dr. Michael Fullan, Dean of the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, a leading voice in the arena of educational change; Dr. Rick Stiggins, an expert in assessment; and Dr. Rita Pierson, noted for her insights into children of poverty.
