New source of ideas for Kwanzaa crafts
Librarians, teachers and parents will be pleased with this title by California storyteller, puppeteer, papercrafter and Hans Christian Andersen portrayer Randal McGee. As a librarian I was constantly on the lookout for simple, effective and inexpensive crafts for library programs. Randal's book offers just that, along witheasy to understand history and facts about the holiday. Instructions are simple and children age 8 and up should have no difficulty making the crafts; younger children may require some assistance with cutting. I would have preferred the patterns to be full sized on individual pages to eliminate the need to enlarge them, but most copiers should be able to handle the job. I was searching for adult quality gift ideas when I found this gem-- Kwanzaa Crafts. The photos, stories, format and ideas captured my attention. I only wish the author included a how-to for at least one of the beautiful quilt designs.

The instructions are easy to follow, and the results will delight the children
Kwanzaa is a celebration of the African roots of Black Americans. It is relatively very young, having been started only in 1966. However, the principles of Kwanzaa go back many centuries to celebrations that Africans performed before they were captured and turned into slaves.

If you every wondered what to do with your children during Kwanzaa, this book will provide you with some ideas.Kwanzaa Fun provides numerous activities for children to make crafts for Kwanzaa. For example, I constructed a Kinara, Mishuma Saba and an unity cup. I enjoyed the activities and I believe children can experience Kwanzaa making some of the crafts and games in book, such as unity dolls, family trees, welcome banners, tribal pouches, mekakas, and African mask. Moreover, the book provides some recipes you might want to try during Kwanzaa. Finally, get the supplies for the crafts a week before the holiday.

The Best Book on Kwanzaa for the Very Young (3 - 7 year olds
I have purchased and read quite a few of the children's books that are currently available on the topic of Kwanzaa.Explaining the seven principles of Kwanzaa (Unity, Self Determination, Collective Work and Responsibility, Cooperative Economics, Purpose, Creativity and Faith)to children under 8 years old is extremely difficult.I have had the opportunity to present an 'age appropriate' program to my children's pre-school and Elementary School every year for the past 4 years, and have always struggled with how to make these principles make sense to these predominantly non-African American groups of youngsters.Kwanzaa Fun by Linda Robertson and Julia Pearson was the answer to my prayers this year!The book gives brief, simple explanations of the principles, excellent 'age appropriate' activities and receipes for a wonderful meal to be served at the Karamu.It is a must for families with young children who plan to celebrate Kwanzaa or just want to introduce the concepts. ... Dupe-Invented Holiday
Unfortunately, Kwanzaa was concocted by an FBI dupe. FACT.

I Don't Think There Is A Better Kwanzaa Book.
I have been looking for a good Kwanzaa book but they are hard to find.Most go through the days laboriously or have some cheesy made-up story that no one cares about as filler.This book is great in the way it is written and how it states the purpose of Kwanzaa and the belief behind it.It sends a much better message about Kwanzaa and how it came to be than other books do.I definitely would recommend this book to many of my students especially my students from African countries.

The Seven Days of Kwanzaa by Angela Shelf Medearis is truly a great resource of Kwanzaa information. It includes easy recipes, ideas and instruction for home made Kwanzaa gifts, background information on the holiday and stories of some inspirational African Americans.
