4-0 out of 5 stars Great social skills book series
I've purchased several of these books for use with preschoolers with autism. The clear precise ideas make them ideal for introducing some pretty tough concepts to the kids. This is one of my favorites - they all have some spring board ideas in the back on how to use them.

5-0 out of 5 stars So glad we found this book!
We have a five year old heading to kindergarten this fall and we wanted to sharpen her focusing skills. This is a great book for helping kids understand the reasons for and benefits of listening. It has beautiful, simple illustrations and clear, concise messages perfectly suited for young children. My daughter loves the pictures and loves me to read this to her.

5-0 out of 5 stars Respect 101
My son is 6 years old and I bought 4 books in this series. He is able to read the book with some assistance and relate to the book! In the back there are great ideas on how to pose questions to your child. My son does poorly with abstract questions but with this book, he not only learns but the visual (which is fantastic) helps him respond better. I will be buying all the books in this series! It is so well worth it to teach your child important words...he now speaks about being polite, kind, showing respect, helping, sharing etc....LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic
My son truly love this book and this book has helped enhanced his listening skill. Worth every penny!

5-0 out of 5 stars Teach your child how to pay attention BEFORE even starting school!
I think this one is our favorite. The little boy looks so intently at his teacher. He learns how to pay attention even when there are distractions. These books are cleverly written and I just love the illustrations.Nice representation of all ethnic groups.

All the books in the 'Learning to Get Along' series are fantastic. They teach vital social skills (paying attention, sharing, respecting others property, etc) to children in a way that they can understand.

Product Description
Based on the theories of John Dewey, the constructivist view of children's learning, and current curriculum guidelines for mathematics, this latest book in the authors' Active Experiences series provides six clear, concise, and usable guides for turning mathematics instruction into activities that three-to-five year olds will find engaging. They involve group work, investigations, and projects; are grounded in children's interests and needs; and, build, one upon the other to form a coherent learning curriculum. Additionally, each conforms to the most recent standards of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) and the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).Review of children's literature illustrates the numerous ways to use child-appealing stories, poems, and pictures to teach mathematics. A full chapter on resources provides information for lesson planning and more, pre-screened for relevance to book-sanctioned activities. Thorough treatment of the home-school connection discusses the authors' views on collaboration between teachers and families. Coverage of “setting up” the mathematics area of a classroom—addresses both indoor and outdoor spaces, health/safety issues, organizing for inclusions, and making spaces visually appealing.Ideal for professionals in childcare, preschool, Head Start, and other early learning environments. ... Product Description
Combining a child-centered philosophy with problem-solving strategies, and a thorough discussion of diversity, Infants, Toddlers, and Caregivers serves as an ideal introduction to curriculum and care for infants and toddlers.

The approach to caregiving that underlies the text is based on Magda Gerber’s philosophy combined with a bold new approach to the extensive 62 years of research done by her late colleague, Emmi Pikler.Focusing on the concept of respect in child care, both pioneers based their curriculum around responding to each individual child's needs in a warm and sensitive manner. Stressing the need for physical and social growth through planned and unplanned learning exercises, Gerber and Pikler's approach to childcare aims to develop the mental, physical, and emotional progress of each child. In addition to the new approach to Pikler's research, the new edition features expanded discussions on race, natural environments and exercise for children.

Infants, Toddlers, and Caregivers applies this approach in a practical and engaging way for students and faculty in introductory early childhood courses. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is great.
I was forced to buy this book for a Child Development class. But after taking the class and going through the book I wish I would have kept it. I just had a baby a few months ago and what I learned in this book has thought me so much on how to be a good mother. I'll be purchasing again soon.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Satisfied
Thank you. I was very satisfied. I got this in a timely matter. It was great.

4-0 out of 5 stars Book required for class
I bought this book because it was required for one of my child development classes. I like how deeply and clearly the writer explains how to take care of young children properly and the essences of quality time spent with children by caregivers without any rushing and stresses. I didn't like it when the author said we should respect them very much like another human being. We should respect them but not treat them like adults in handling and speaking (over-respecting), and follow everything what they do. This may lead to a spoiled child if we treat him too much like an independent "adult". Caregivers should guide and redirect children sometimes, not following them entirely. A good book but I would not keep it on my bookshelf. It will be going back to my school for cash.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great insight
This is a great textbook, required by my teacher, bought it second hand, but it was in a great shape, and great value. Am still studying though, so my review is very external.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not a great coloring book
My First Spanish ABC Picture Coloring Book was somewhat disappointing. The book fits 12 pictures (including a picture of each letter of the alphabet) on each of the 21 coloring pages. Each picture has a Spanish word below. There could be some confusion as to what the Spanish word pertains to unless you look at the word list at the end of the book.

For example on page 18, there is a picture of a smiling girl with glasses and the word "sonriendo". It's not apparent right away that the word means smiling. I believe that it would have been easier to understand if there was a small arrow pointing to her smile. There are several examples like this, but other pictures such as window and trumpet are easily understood.

For those parents sensitive to showing pictures of mythical or pagan creatures to their children, you might not want to buy this book. It shows pictures of a witch, a ghost, and a unicorn. Otherwise, this book teaches the Spanish words for animals, objects in the house, clothing, occupations, and other things.

On a scale of 1 to ten, I give this book a 6.5 for hard to color, small pictures with small details, and including some hard to follow illustrations that leave you searching the word list to find out what the Spanish word means. ... Read more
