3-0 out of 5 stars We never baked/cooked for our pets before
My husband and I adopted a 6 1/2 year old MaltePoo (Maltese Poodle) this past year. She came to us with a few "problems", the worst (we hope) being her teeth and breath. She smelled like a rotting garbage can. We got the tip from a neighbor to cook our own food for the dog to help her digestion. We use "Pheromone Magic" solution from this Crazy Cat company for our kitty, and saw this book advertised on a post card in our last order. We ordered it from Amazon, and it's OK. On the left side of the pages are usually tips, jokes, etc. On the right side of the pages are the recipes. It's a good starting off point. Personally, I would search the internet for recipes and save the money from the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic
An excellent cookbook encouraging children to learn not only how to cook, but to also introduce them to another language and culture.

Recipes included in this book are:The Best-O Chicken Pest-O, Mamma Mia Minestrone and Every Tummy Loves Tartufo.

This cookbook is a unique approach to a creative idea.It is presented in a personal-sized pizza box with a chef's hat included. Each recipe indicates the level of difficulty for each recipe. The tools used in the kitchen as well as the ingredients are written in both Italian and English to help increase an awareness of other languages. The book is presented by the Handstand Kids:Five children that represent different ethnicities, one is disabled and one is vegetarian. This is a nice approach to show children how everyone is different and how to develop a sensitivity towards differences.Children are also encouraged to utilize their new cooking skills and help the underprivileged.

With the increase in mobility around the world, Handstand Kids is a great way to introduce children to culture, language, the kitchen and to think of the needs of others. Not only would this make a great gift, but it would also be great as a donation to your local children's library.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a great book!
What a great book!I got this book for my two nieces [ages 10 and 7] and my nephew [age 5] as a way to introduce them to cooking and a bit of Italian, but what I found was that the book had so much more to offer! The introduction contains the bios of the Handstand Kids, each with their own unique personality and story, which makes the whole experience much more interesting. Also in the introduction is a page encouraging kids to get involved helping others. This is so important to teach kids any way we can. Both the bios and some possible charities to get involved with are on the book's official website www.handstandkids.com if you want to check them out.Of course, this is all before getting into the great recipes.I really love that each recipe includes an alternative preparation like making the dish vegetarian or adding additional spices for different flavors.I think this really encourages creativity.Kids learn to cook, not just follow instructions. And it all comes in a cute pizza box with a chef's hat.I can't wait to get cooking!Molto Bene!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great family time with my kids
My kids and I love this book. It's easy and so much fun to use.I had to buy two of them just for the chef hat that they love to wear everytime they cook.I aslo have used this for kids birthday gifts and now we are setting "cooking play dates" with other kids.It really is a joy to watch my kids enjoy cooking especially my son who always thought girls were the only one who can cook in the house.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing, adorable, and delicious
The Handstand Kids cookbook is darling. The italian recipes are fun and simple for kids, but also tasty enough to please any discriminating adult's palate. The characters are adorable and I love the diversity of their personalities and backgrounds, as well as the focus on community service. And how can you not love the design, illustration and packaging -- too cute. Kids love the chef's hat that comes with the book too! Three thumbs up.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing kids cookbook for both food and FUN!
I recently gave the Handstand Kids Cookbook to my two nephews, ages 5 and 8 - they absolutely love it! They love wearing the hat as they feel more 'grown-up', and it makes the activity of preparing the dish all the more special. The recipes are easy for them to follow (and yummy!) and they love learning the Italian translations. The book is written and designed so that the kids get a chance to enjoy and appreciate the whole process of cooking, from preparing and getting the ingredients, to the mixing to the eating! Also, I am so happy that the recipes are healthy so the kids can realize that healthy food can be yummy food as well, which for my nephews, their mom really appreciates! This is an excellent book to introduce kids to the joys of cooking, food, and teamwork, and having something good to eat at the end, give the kids a sense of accomplishment. I highly recommend this book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Innovative!
I bought this cookbook, because I love to cook with my grandchildren. But what intrigued me more was that there's a photo sleeve by each recipe so that you can place photos of you and your children/grandchildren cooking! What a great idea--and the recipes are great too!(I haven't tried any yet--waiting for my grandchildren to visit next week.)

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun activity to do with your kids!
I wanted a cookbook that was easy and fun to do with my kids.If you are looking for healthy recipes, this isn't the cookbook.I like to prepare healthy snacks for my kids, so I changed some of the ingredients to promote this.Such as the Pirate Cannon Balls, I added honey instead of the powdered sugar, and used the all natural peanut butter and it tasted great!I also substituted the cool whip and used real whipping cream instead.Still trying the recipes and finding ways to make them less processed and sugary. The cookbook is a great idea and lots of fun!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great gift
I purchased one of these books on a whim. What a great decision. We have made about 4 or 5 of the recipes. My daughter finds it easy to understand and calls me to help when she sees the "cook buddy" icon. Clever design and great recipes.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great for you Justin!-now you can afford an Editor
We were quite impressed with the chef and his parents for encouraging Justin-way to go!!For the next book, I would suggest a cookbook editor to proof the recipes...of course there is no substitute for parental suppervision-but some parents are non-cooks and wouldn't catch things like 'blend all' directions when making French Toast! We did, but I felt sorry for the others...

5-0 out of 5 stars What great way to enjoy life with your children, we do.
My what an unique child and author and simply superb concept in cooking. This book is worth having just to spend times with children. The recipes may not be the best but they are worth making for and with your children, just as we have done over and over. We were amazed how much fun we had withour children and they with us. They learned planning, respect andachievement. Tally Ho, Chef Justin And Give Us Another Book Soon!

3-0 out of 5 stars Too many cooks in the kitchen
....These [recipes] are definetly written by a child and often are missing
steps or are confusing. For example in "Sydney's Sailing
Ships" mayonnaise is a listed ingredient but is completely left
out of the steps. In a "Hannah's Banana French Toast" the
first step says to put all ingredients in blender, mix well. Well, in
went the bread and out came slop, my son was dissappointed and felt he
had done something wrong. In short this book is worth having, we are
having fun with it and the recipes and resulting dishes are appealing
to children and adults, but you definetly need to fill in the gaps for
your child.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's Great for the summer, kids keep on learning!
I bought this book for a 9 yr.old, that is not very interested in school right now.He was so excited, and he is reading, learning math, and also learning to cook all at the same time, and realizing that it's fun tolearn! In the first day, he made three dishes from this great book, and itlooks like his summer won't be a dull one!He wants to make everything inthe book. This is a totally awesome book, and a must for children!

5-0 out of 5 stars Cooking With Chef Justin taught our children responsibilty.
My significant other purchased this book on a lark and we are amazed at the reaction of our children. Our youngest better known as BJ, actually took cooking classes after making several of the recipes in Chef Justin'sbook. Brandi, our other child used it as a cooking competition for aslumber party weekend and presented awards for the best meal from thisbook. Now our children are actually cooking almost twice a week and gainingvaluable discipline, responsibility and knowledge. What a bright idea froman obivious bright young man in the name of Chef Justin Miller. I neverthought us Texans would learn from a Pennsylvanian but we were wrong, theyare not just learning but having a great time because of this super bookfor kids!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great way to creat memories
Reviewed by Irene Watson for Reader Views (08/10)

Creating memories for children is one of the top priorities as a parent and what better way than to have cooking events with them. I'm going to take this one step further and say that memories of cooking with a grandparent are equally important."Cooking Together" is one way of doing this.

The recipes are simple. For example, "Cream Cheese Turkey Bagel"- there's nothing exotic about this recipe; just cream cheese, bagel and a slice of deli turkey. But, it's not about the ingredients; it's about reading the recipe together and creating the end result. As well, it's educational. The child learns to measure the cream cheese and how to spread it on the bagel.

The more "complicated" recipe would be "Meat Loaf Wedges."Although simple, it involves measuring, combining, shaping and using the microwave.

Older children would be challenged with recipes like "Chicken and Stuffing Casserole" or "Scalloped Potatoes."They involve more ingredients, melting, chopping, dicing and shredding. As well, an oven has to be used.

Perusing the recipes I found that most ingredients can be found in the household pantry and at a nearby grocery store. They are simple and take very little time to put together. The most important thing is to give your child tasks they can accomplish while learning kitchen safety and new skills.I have no doubt that new memories will be created in the kitchen with "Cooking Together." ... 5-0 out of 5 stars INSPIRATIONAL!
My daughter received this as a gift and we just love it. She is a budding artist and was so inspired by the kids painting as well as the "food" art! This book makes it fun and easy for anyone to create a masterpiece! Well done and what a great gift idea!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Generational Masterpiece from Kid-Did-It!
As a fun, family activity Cookie Bookie crosses all generational lines between Mothers, Fathers, Grandmothers, Grandfathers and Children of all ages.
Cookie Bookie is a wonderful way to start those little Tea Parties with Granny.
For my first Tea Party I read the colorful recipies with my "lovey" all snuggled up on my lap. Together we picked from an array of choices. What would it be - a yummy Buttefly or the Pepperment Piggies or those cute little Ladybugs or better still, the tasty Chocalate Chipmunks? Yummy! Yummy!
Then the fun begins - mixing all the ingredients with a "finger dip" taste test every couple of minutes.
Nothing matches seeing your child's "awe" as their cookie creation comes out of the oven.
Ready now for Granny's special Tea Party with Mr. Munchy Moon Melts,
The Sweethearts, Miss Lamb Jams, Monster Mish-Mash, Miss Lady Bug Dot
and my little Lovey, the guest of honor. A wonderful time had by all.
This vibrant colorful book contains beautiful illustrations of cookie characters that light up the imagination.
I highly recommend Cookie Bookie as a Must-Get book for family and friends.
P.S. COOKIE MONSTER must now be in COOKIE BOOKIE Heaven!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars MoonMelts--"This cookie is the BEST!"
"This cookie is the BEST!"That was the opinion my marshmallow cream-adorned three year old granddaughter volunteered about the MoonMelts, one of several of the fun, easy, and delicious recipes we made from this very kid-friendly "cookie bookie."

Not only the grandchildren but I love the vibrant color "kids-did-it" illustrations in this book.Butterflies, a blue chipmunk, a smiling ladybug, and much more accompany the recipes for these creatively-named cookies (Cherry Chirps, Dragon Crisps, MoonMelts and, my favorite, Peppermint Pig Puffs!)

We bought several of the books and were so positively impressed we even shared the purchasing information with friends who own a children's gift shop. This book is an all-round good choice for an affordable gift for a child--fun, educational, and beautiful. You will have a ball making these cookies with the children in your life, and you will make the best of memories for them.
