USGS OFR 01-223: Interactive Geologic Maps Using ArcIMS JA, 2001, interactive Online Geologic maps with interactive Links to MultimediaArchival Data; a pilot project for Montgomery County, kansas, February July http://pubs.usgs.gov/of/2001/of01-223/collins.html
Extractions: D- 77652 Offenburg, Germany The title expresses goals the Kansas Geological Survey ( KGS ) has been working toward for some time. This report extends concepts and objectives developed while working on an earlier effort for effective interactive digital maps on the Internet. That work was reported to the 1998 DMT Workshop in Champaign, Illinois (Ross, 1998). The current project goes beyond previous efforts that focused on methods for serving the contents of a geographic information system ( GIS ); the points, lines, and polygons representing features of the digital geologic map and the data in the attribute tables of the GIS describing those features.

Road, political, trolley and railroad lines, topographic, and aerial photos are just a few types of maps available. In addition, the department has a collection of Sanborn fire insurance maps for the entire state of Missouri, as well as Kansas City atlases produced by local companies, both of which provide building-specific detail for the city from the turn of the century into the1960s. Records for these items can be found by searching the local history database in the online catalog A fantastic collection of panoramic maps documenting all areas of the United States, including Kansas City. The collection may be browsed by state or searched for a specific locale. One fascinating and fun feature of this collection is the ability to zoom in on a map without losing clarity of the digital image.

Kansas Applied Remote Sensing Program (KARS) | Green Report The kansas Green ReportĀ® is a free online service that provides citizens of kansaswith a series of weekly interactive maps showing vegetation conditions http://mapster.kgs.ukans.edu/kars/
Extractions: The Kansas is a free online service that provides citizens of Kansas with a series of weekly interactive maps showing vegetation conditions across the State of Kansas. The maps are derived from NOAA satellite data that measures how green vegetation is. The has been produced by the Kansas Applied Remote Sensing Program (KARS) , a research unit of the Kansas Biological Survey at the University of Kansas, since 1995, with support and funding from NASA's Earth Science Enterprise . The combines current satellite data with historic data to present a more complete picture of crop and range condition and progress. The maps are supplemented with commentary and information from the USDA and other trusted sources to help you understand and interpret the information. Taken together, the weekly map sets and commentary form the Kansas The map sets can accurately show areas where crops, rangelands, and forests are progressing or doing poorly from one period to the next, and can compare vegetation progress and condition to the previous year and to long-term average conditions. There are 5 maps in each online issue of the Kansas When used together, the map sets can be used as a tool for understanding crop development throughout the growing season.

Extractions: The associated interactive map was created to test and demonstrate the connectivity of spatial databases among the five states cooperating on the MIDCARB project (Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, and Ohio). Many of the interactive map layers are loaded in real time from databases distributed in separate states. The two-letter state abbreviation prefix included in the layer name indicates which state's database is being loaded (for example, "IL - Power Plants" is loaded from the Oracle server at the Illinois State Geological Survey). Map layers not having a state prefix, such as "USA - Rivers," are loaded from the SQL Server database at the Indiana Geological Survey.

In 1994, he brought GIS to NYPIRG as a component of our environmental organizing and advocacy work with community groups across the state. Steven was awarded a Revson Fellowship at Columbia University in 1995, and continued on at Columbia to receive a masters degree in urban planning in 1998. He expanded his expertise in GIS and urban issues while at Columbia, and launched CMAP while completing his graduate studies. Senior Programmer/Analyst Marty DeBenedictis has worked at NYPIRG since 1990. From 1992 through 1997 he directed NYPIRG's field outreach program across New York State, directly supervising a staff of 25 outreach directors, who in turn coordinated a field staff of 300 employees. This experience provided him with a solid working knowledge of communities across the state, New York's political geography, and a wide array of consumer and environmental issues. He helped launch CMAP in 1997, and has developed an expertise in computer mapping software and programming applications including MapObjects, Visual Basic and MapBasic.
