From the supplier: The Harley-Davidson Owners Group (HOG) of Bourbeuse Valley in St. Louis, MO, lodged a complaint with the FCC against KSDK-TV for its failure to cover the longest funeral motorcycle motorcade in the history of St. Louis. The motorcade was an expression of sympathy for James McBride, who was murdered with his wife by their son. Instead of covering the motorcade, KSDK-TV broadcast a California story about a biker feud that resulted in a fatality.

From the supplier: The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) may refuse to renew the licenses of radio stations KFUO-AM and KFUO-FM owned by the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod once they are proven guilty of racial discrimination in their hiring practices. The petition was made by the St. Louis Branch of the NAACP, which also called on the FCC to bar the proposed sale of another radio station to the church. If closed, the Lutheran Church may lose up to $12 million.

From the supplier: Yale University political scientist Martin Gilens released a study citing a trend in the news media that portrays most poor people as blacks, even though whites compose the majority of the poor. The study revealed that photo editors at leading newsmagazines had a false impression of the racial composition of the poor. The National Assn of Black Journalists used the findings of Gilens' study to call for the hiring of more visual journalists from minority groups to reverse the trend. It also challenges news organizations to be more sensitive in their editing tasks.

From the supplier: St Louis, MO, mayor Clarence Harmon has initiated the reformation of the fragmented political structure in the city. The presence of too many officeholders in the city has led to the refraction of political power, which makes it hard to achieve coherence decisionmaking. This is markedly evident when the mayor suggested the redevelopment of the Arena into an office park. Despite the wrangling that occurred as a result of his pronouncement, Harmon is committed to removing the political disorganization that is hampering growth in the city.

From the supplier: 'Ft. Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel' may have scored a journalistic first with its Feb. 1997 article on the voting records of 24 of South Florida's famous celebrities. Some of the notables whose voting behaviors were discussed in public included sportsmen Jack Nicklaus, Dan Marino and Jeff Conine and radio personality Neil Rogers. Written by political reporter Buddy Nevins, the article completely disregarded privacy concerns as it reported that most of the famous names fared well at the polls. Questions have since arisen as to what significance such information can hold for the paper's readers.

From the supplier: Ron Freeman caught the attention of the Republican party when he won in the 1994 primary. He is what is called a stealth candidate or one who conceals his radical religious agenda and affiliations. Freeman denies receiving support from the radical religious right although the media report otherwise. Most of those who voted for Freeman also support individual empowerment as against social welfare from government.
