5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book For Beginners
The title of the book and this review say it all folks.Worth a read.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great introduction Herbs
This book is a great introduction to the effects of herbs on the body and to the your overall health.Mr. Castleman explains the ins and outs of herbs from thier history to their interations with medications. He even explains the use of herbs through out history stating that the Frankensence and Mur used by the wise men we to help with the prvention of desease in early age.

He goes over the major concerns when dealing with some herbs. The first is are they safe?He mentions that most herbs have been used for centuries with out harm to the body or with major side effects. In modern day, there is concern when herbs are mixed with drugs.

The other concern is how and where to get them.Remember that herbs come from all over the world, one needs to know how to get them and store them.

The final sections describes the 100 healing herbs where Mr. Castelman explains each herb, their side effects, drug interations and more.Definately helpful when you need to know about a particular herb.

As always, consult your health care professional when you decide to take an herb because of the drug interations with them.

I recomend this book for your library along with Dr. Whitaker's Guide to natural Healing (see my review), 8 Weeks to Optimal Health by Dr. Weil, The Doctors Complete Guide to Vitamins and Minerals, Earl Mandrell's Vitamin Bible (see my Review) as part of your health regimine.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST
I refer to this book as my "Bible of Herbal help".It is the greatest herbal reference book I have found.I bought it when it first came out and have used it on a regular basis ever since.

1-0 out of 5 stars HALF DONE JOB BOOK.
THIS BOOK IS GARBAGE WHEN IT COMES TO THE HISTORY ABOUT THE HERBS AND MIKE CASTLEMAN STUDY'S ON HOW OLD THE VEDAS IS, IS INCORRECT. IT SEEMS THAT HE HAS TO STUDY MORE. HOW IA A PERSON GOING TO WRITE A BOOK WHEN HE GIVES YOU THE WRONG INFORMATION ON HOW OLD THE VEDAS IS COMMON 4500 YEARS OLD? IT'S MUCH OLDER THEN THAT. HE NEEDS TO STICK TO WHAT HE KNOWS, WHICH IS THE BIBLE.

5-0 out of 5 stars awesome
I have had this book for a few years, and I use it extensively. Very informative. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Must read for those interested in Emotions
If you have looked at different ways of accessing and understanding a person's psyche or emotional being this book is a must have. Great visuals to help one learn, its like being in a classroom

4-0 out of 5 stars Well structured, Broadly researched,Excellent resource.
Highly consistent with the style of Maciocia's other foundational works in oriental medicine, acupuncture and herbology -- this one is very well organized, the text is crisp and succinct. It contains many clarifying illustrations plus substantial details on the "how-to" for diagnosis, differentiation and treatment of mental disharmonies using acupuncture and/or herbs. It is a great starting place, even for persons relatively new to the Chinese medicine perspective to these disciplines.Yet it is constructed to serve as a rapidly scanned handbook on return visits with many summary visuals (drawings and textbox highlights inserted by the publisher).

There are several strong points for its use:
1.Inclusion of basic pulse and tongue patterns relevant to mental/emotional health questions
2.Discussion of constiutional or five element patterns
3.Detailed discussion for westerners of the components of the psyche in chinese medicine, integrating diverse sources including Buddhism, Confuscianism, and Jungian psychology
4.Good review of ancient and modern views regarding emotions and the "self"; including the ancient greeks, classic western european philosophers and modern neurophysiology in a manner that can be compared and potentially integrated with eastern philosophy.
5.Useful appendices including a bibliography on the classics of chinese medicine which outlines what each of these contain should the reader wish to pursue them.
6.Detailed coverage regarding common mental health issues from the perspective of Chinese Medicine (depression, anxiety, insomnia, bipolar patterns, night terrors, and attention-deficity hyperactivity disorder). These are primarily addressed from a diagnostic framework consistent with TCM, but there is still a substantial section relating to the channel concepts. It does not have chapters specifically for the severe psychoses (understandably as these likely require a more complete shift to and/or coordination with western modalities).
7.Its one of the few resources which includes not only case studies but some clinical trials, often with control groups (placebo or pharmacological controls)coming from both western medicine and oriental medicine journals for each of the common mental health issues listed in #6 above.
8.Good diagrams to remind the reader about point locations are included very close to where these are mentioned in the text.Extra points are defined and illustrated when applicable, thus diminishing the need for newcomers to routinely keep a point atlas nearby, just in order to follow the flow of the text.
9.A great deal of effort was clearly expended to create very memorable drawings using modern concepts such as circuit boards and town maps to illustrate how some of the point combinations or meridian interventions might work.Several of these seemed to settle into my memory in a way that had not worked before.

Potential weaknesses seemed relatively minor to me but included:

1.At times it was hard to discriminate what information might be coming from his translating classics versus drawing on his own opinions and clinical experience, though obviously the latter is substantial.
2.The written text and illustrations are in a 2-color format, black for the standard text and red/maroon for highlighted text as well as frequently interposed summary boxes. When I am tired -- the red is somewhat irritating and limits my ability to continue focused reading or scanning.I am used to red denoting serious cautions or extremely critical highlights -- here its use is more general.Probably a publishers' choice to distinguish this one from his other books that are in a different color.I can appreciate the symbolic connection between red and heart, mind, psyche, etc. However the ease of readabililty for me is reduced a little.
3.Some of the "summaries" and "clinical notes" feel overdone to me -- duplicating text I just read one paragraph before.I recognize that once I've finished several chapters, this provides a rapid overview of the most important points to be more easily relocated by scanning. However, on my first pass while trying to just read through the text it slowed me down slightly.

Overall Maciocia's book is well conceived and executed. It also serves as a nice complementary work to Shen: Psycho-Emotional Aspects of Chinese Medicine. They each have differing strengths.Maciocia's is likely to be more appealing to those just learning about chinese medicine or clinical psychology/psychiatry or those who want an easily accessible reference handbook for direct clinical application.Rossi's is more likely to appeal to a veteran in these fields who seeks more detailed philosophical and academic discourse.

5-0 out of 5 stars A masterful book by a master acupuncturist
I am thoroughly enjoying this book! It is extremely well-written. I particularly like the comparison of the TCM psyche with western thoughts on the psyche.... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great for students!
This is an awesome quick reference book for students of TCM. I used it when studying single herbs and it is even more helpful when studying formulas. It is perfect for the student who really wants to learn about the specific role each individual herb takes in a formula.

Even though this book was copywrited in 1994 and revised in 1998, the info is still fresh and new.Pitman uses a mixture of Ayurvedic and Greek-Tibb humours to base her recommended herbs. This is fairly easy to follow with this book. The remedies are obtainable and easy to understand. However, she doesn't give the quantities of the herbs to use.One would have to rely on their intuition or maybe consult another book if you are unsure about measurements. All in all, I enjoyed reading this book and it will definitely be one that I use as a reference as an herbologist. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Very usefull book
This book gives comprehensive information about commonly used herbs. Each chapter consists of herb description, pharmacology, general uses and side effects. There are references after every chapter to substantiate the text. Every physician or lay person interested in herbal medicine should own this book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Subtle propaganda for the pharmaceutical companies
The authors of this book are key personalities of the American Botanical Council, an organization tirelessly committed to the takeover of herbal medicine by pharmaceutical companies, specifically German pharmaceutical companies that generously fund their company--and underwrite the production of their books. If you care about herbal medicine, don't give your money to this sinister organization!

2-0 out of 5 stars Missing extremely important information
I am a clinical professor in a school of pharmacy and am admittedly biased toward traditional "western" medicine. However, any objective person would have to agree that there are major "gaps" in the information this book provides. In the section on St. John's wort, this book states that there are no known contraindications or drug interactions with St. John's wort. There are in fact serious drug interactions with this product, including anti-rejection drugs (resulting in at least one case of organ rejection in a renal transplant patient) and potentially fatal interactions with other anti-depressants (most importantly MAOIs). This book has extensive information on historical use of herbs, pharmacology and uses... but lacks important safety information. No clinician should use this book as his/her sole source of information on herbal products.

5-0 out of 5 stars A reference book no professionalherbalist can be without
As an avid reader (and writer) of books on herbal medicine, I have to say that Blumenthal, Goldberg, and Brinckmann's Herbal Medicine is simply the most authoritative reference for the use of Western herbs on the markettoday. Herbal Medicine--Expanded Commission E Monographs augments the"gold standard" of scientifically oriented herbal therapy, theCommission E Monographs, with histories, in-depth and comprehensivediscussions of scientific research, color photos, and practicalrecommendations for the use of herbs in therapy, some of which are to befound in no other book. While the tone of the book is academic and thescientific complexity of the subject matter may scare away some potentialreaders, anyone who uses any of the herbs most commonly available in theUSA today can profit by referring to this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A core reference for traditional and alternative medicine.
Herbal Medicine: Expanded Commission E Monographs is an alphabetically presented dictionary of herbal plants and their known medicinal properties. Illustrated in color throughout, each herb is provided with its basicdescriptive information including both popular and botanical name, and it'sown bibliography for those seeking further and even more detailedinformation on medical applications. Product Description

Hailed as a seminal work and considered the most complete compendium of Chinese herbs available, the first edition of Chinese and Related North American Herbs: Phytopharmacology and Therapeutic Values brought new and hard to find information into a single, well-referenced resource. With the addition of 130 herbs and 100 new references, the second edition provides a basic understanding of the science behind Chinese herbal preparations.

Using the same format that made the first edition so popular, author Thomas Li provides a seamless integration of topics drawn from a diverse array of sources. The first table presents major constituents and therapeutic values of more than 1800 species. The data are arranged alphabetically by the Latin name followed by common Chinese and English names. Tables 2 and 3 present data on a total of 700 North American herbs belonging to the same species or genus as Chinese herbs, and a comparison of active ingredients and claimed therapeutic values. Appendices 1, 2, and 3 cross-reference Chinese and scientific names, and major active ingredients and their sources in the Chinese and North American herbs cited in the tables.

Research in Chinese medicinal herbs has been conducted for decades in China, Japan, and Korea and recently in the West. Unfortunately, language barriers and the unreliability of sources and herbal material have hampered progress. Carefully crafted and designed to provide easy access to key data, this book supplies information compiled from authentic and highly regarded sources scattered throughout the Chinese and Western literature. This information can then be used to develop proper procedures for eliminating adulteration, contamination, and toxic side effects in Chinese herbs, and also to determine appropriate regulations for their use.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not for identification!
I agree with the other reviewers--this is a fantastic book with excellent information. Too often, this kind of ethnobotanical information is lost over time, when the information is not passed down over the generations.

I rate the book three stars only as a cautionary to anyone looking for a book which will help them identify medicinal plants--this is not that book! There are some (Some!) black & white photos at the end, but there are no physical descriptions of any of the plants. Curtin does provide the Spanish, English, and Latin name for each plant, but overall, this book is for people who have already identified the plants, and now want to know what to use them for. Since some of the plants discussed are, for example, the garden onion and pinto beans, this may not be as much of a hardship as you might imagine. Her list of "herbs" is really quite complete.

5-0 out of 5 stars from the Medical Herbalism journal
Laura Curtin lived and worked among thecuranderas and Native Americans ofNorthern New Mexico during the earlypart of the twentieth century. She fell inlove with the plants and their lore, and later, at theprompting of a friend, decidedto record them. Healing Herbs was first published in 1947, at a time when interestin traditional healing inNorthern NewMexico was in decline. It helped preservetraditionalinformation for a newgeneration -- when editor Michael Moorearrived inSanta Fe in the 1960s he foundcopies of Curtin's book as a prized possession in many traditional households. The book is unique in theliterature ofethnobotany in that it was writtenessentially by aninsider in the tradition, rather than by an observer doinginterviews.

Product Description
A single-source reference on the most important and best-investigated Ayurvedic herbs

This book examines the clinical information available on more than 60 Ayurvedic herbs to determine how their use in traditional Indian medicine is supported by modern scientific study. Plants are grouped according to body systems and each entry includes a description, information on the source plant, distribution and traditional use, active chemical constituents, relevant pharmacology, and details of clinical studies and safety findings. This unique book also includes a brief history of Ayurveda, examines the history of drug development and evaluation in ancient India, and identifies current trends resulting from scientific investigation.

Worldwide interest in Ayurveda is growing quickly, especially in the United States, Europe, and Japan. But until now, information on Western-style clinical trials on Ayurveda herbs has been scattered and no single source for descriptions, comments, and references has existed. Ayurvedic Herbs presents the first critical validation of Ayurvedic medicine, extensively referenced for physicians and clinicians interested in alternative and adjunctive therapies. This unique book is essential for making informed choices on herb use, offering clinical trial data, results of pharmacological studies, and safety information.

Ayurvedic Herbs examines:

gastrointestinal agents

hepatoprotective agents

respiratory tract agents

cardiovascular drugs

urinary tract drugs

antirheumatic agents

skin and trauma care agents

gynecological agents

antidiabetic agents

CNS agents

rasayana drugs

1-0 out of 5 stars Indian Ayurvedic Methods
I do not see where the author has credibility in the study of Ayurvedic herbs. As a Ph.D. in an unspecified science, she is not an actual Doctor of Ayurveda (B.A.M.S. and M.A.Sc.).What is more disturbing is that she cites the recommendation of at least one very strange person."Dr." Marc Halpern is an ex-chiropractor who teaches an abbreviated, twisted, Westernized and Christianized version of "Ayurveda". He has little actual training in Ayurveda. Indian Ayurvedic methods are complicated and profound. If this author sought out Halpern to give her book more credibility, she has done the opposite.

Product Description
The new 2nd edition of Chinese Herbal Medicine: Formulas & Strategies, the companion volume to Chinese Herbal Medicine: Materia Medica, is designed to serve as both a textbook for students and an authoritative reference for practitioners of traditional Chinese medicine. Included in the new edition are over 800 medicinal formulas drawn from both classical and modern sources, which provide more than twice the information in the earlier edition. For each of the 340-plus principal formulas there is a discussion of its therapeutic actions and indications, analysis of the functions and interactions of the ingredients, method of preparation, and a list of modifications to customize the formula in the clinic. Over 460 variations and associated formulas offer additional options for the practitioner. The commentary to each formula has been considerably expanded. This section deepens the readers understanding of a formulas genealogy, presents an overview of controversies regarding composition, usage, and other issues, describes the extension of a formulas application to a wider range of disorders, and provides key clinical pointers to facilitate use of the formula in the modern clinic. A new section on comparisons has been added to this edition. This is intended to help students and practitioners focus on the distinguishing characteristics of each formula by contrasting it with other formulas that are similar in terms of composition or indication. Tables at the end of each chapter reinforce these distinctions by comparing and contrasting formulas across a wider range. The introduction to the book traces the historical evolution of the formulas, and provides practical pointers for their preparation and use. Detailed timelines depict the key events, authors, and texts in the 2,000-year history of traditional Chinese herbal medicine, placing the contents of this book in historical context. Among the appendices are a pinyin-to-English cross reference to the formulas, a basic summary formulary correlated to symptoms and disorders, a full listing of all books cited in the text, and a bibliography of all modern sources used in the preparation of the book. A comprehensive index to the formulas, and a general index, round out the contents. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars A good resource with a poor index
This edition is a great improvement over the last.My main complaint is the terse index which limits its clinical usefulness. It is a good reference for learning or examining the formulas themselves, but less good as an efficient reference tool in the clinic. The formula descriptions refer to symptoms common to diagnoses for which formulas are used, but the index doesn't reference those symptoms.Even responsible practitioners of Chinese herbalism who prescribe according to diagnosis and not primarily to symptoms can find it useful to have an index in a book like this that contains symptomatic and western diagnostic references...after all, the information is in the book, why not be able to find where it is?The Materia Medica by the same publisher does a much better job of indexing this material.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent
the book is brand new, i recommand to everyone that study anything in complementary medicine

5-0 out of 5 stars Gold Standard
This text--actually more of a reference work--is the gold standard for Chinese herbal formula study. It has historical commentary and in depth discussions on patho-mechanisms that set it apart from other books. A must-have for any student of traditional Chinese medicine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cheaper at the school bookstore
Most of the time Amazon prices are competitive, but for this book the school bookstore was $30 cheaper. Check elsewhere first before buying. The book itself is fine. It is a course textbook and on the CA state acupuncture board list of required books for the licensing exam. This formulas book is authoritative, well-written and among the best of its kind. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great book that lives up to the title!
The title of this book basically sums it up nicely, and it does exactly what it intends to do.So far, since it's not like a book that you would read all the way through, usually) I love the book and it has everything I needed, I got it at a good used price and it was VERY WELL worth the money I spent on it, though I don't know I would have paid the full used price. But anyway, it's a GREAT book for any herbalist!I def recommend. ... With his 20 years of herbal expertise, Ron Teeguarden is theman celebrities rely on to improve their energy, put a glow on theirskin, even renew their sexual vigor. Here he's written a fine andthorough introduction to the theory and art of tonic herbs. Anyonewho's seen Woody Allen's Alice may be a bit leery, but there'smore philosophy and science to these herbs than the hocus-pocus thatthe uninformed may associate them with. As Teeguarden points out, manyof these herbs have been in use for more than 5,000 years.

Hefirst covers the principles of Chinese health--yin and yang; the ThreeTreasures of life--qi (energy or vitality), jing(essence), and shen (spirit); the five main organ systems; andthe Chinese view of the mind-body connection. These concepts may seema bit out of this world for those accustomed to Western medicine("Anger damages the liver"; "The kidneys control the skeleton"), butTeeguarden does an excellent job of explaining it all, even for folkswho are complete novices when it comes to these Chinese healthprinciples.

Then, using an organized, easy-to-use format and ahandy one- to five-star system, he rates various herbs and classifiesthem according to their antioxidant qualities, ability to support theorgans, and other health-promoting properties. Handy bonuses includethe pharmaceutical name of each herb, its organ associations, and itstaste. There are herbs for helping knee problems and boostingfertility, for improving immunity and reducing stress, even forpromoting longevity. The most interesting of the bunch are the onesthat you'd assume appeal to Hollywood folk: tonics to promote hairgrowth, clear the complexion, and prevent jet lag. Teeguarden thenreveals the "recipes" or herb combinations for his tonics, some ofwhich have amusing names like "Gecko Rockclimber," "Super Shou WuCombination" (for fatigue or exhaustion), and "Yanlin's BeautyFormula."There are plenty of mail-order resources for those whocan't find these herbs locally, along with a super chart with theChinese symbols of each herb, the part used, and primaryfunctions. Overall, this is a very helpful, user-friendly referencefor anyone wanting to investigate the benefits that herbs and herbaltonics have to offer. --Erica Jorgensen ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not 'like new'
When it says 'like new', I expect it to be like new. There are 4 typed pages, the table of contents, on plain white paper and pasted over the real table of contents pages. It cheapens the book. I bought it as a reference book for my library so I didn't want to take the time and cost to return the book. If I had bought the book to give away I would have been angry and would have had to go to the trouble to send the book back. I won't buy from this vendor, deeleebooks again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Herbal Book ever.
If you want to have an understanding about Herbs, the top herbs of all times. This is the book to read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Premier source for Chinese Tonic Herbalism
This is an excellent resource for Chinese Tonic Herbalism.Very informative w/ detailed information on safety and efficacy on various tonic herbs. This book also provides as great reference for certain conditions and their corresponding treatments.Ron Teeguarden has done a wonderful job sharing his knowledge.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing
This book is absolutely amazing.Very easy to read and covers the Chinese tonic herbs with great detail. This book is pefect for those who want to know anything about healing herbs.

2-0 out of 5 stars Incomplete information
This book is a great description of what could be done, but the tools to do it are not herein.I was hoping this book was going to have more than just herb descriptions, alas it does not.
Some things that the Author forgot and which seem important: dosage for individual herbs (this is pretty important), chinese name of herbs (neither the pin-yin nor the symbol are given). And, in the formulas section (which was the main reason I bought the book) the formulas just list the herbs and not their proportions!WHAT!?!How unhelpful.
To know that herbs are in a formula is great, but it is not a formula without the proporation of ingredients.Although this book has great descriptions of the herbs and their uses, it lacks the implementational aspects which are critical to using the herbs! The truth is: this book is a marketing tool for the Author's herbal supplement line.Be careful... ... 2-0 out of 5 stars The lies authors tell...
I bought this book as a reference to the various types of herbs and the associated common uses.I guess that it may be an acceptable book for general information regarding the specific uses, but I wouldn't trust the information provided in the chapters. To categorize Egypt as part of Europe on the topic of herbal tradition or anything else for that matter, is a clear indication that several successful attempts were made in effort to denounce the sophisticated contributions that native Africans have made to world civilization and inflate Eurocentric historiography obtained through false means.I really wish I'd kept the receipt to take this back.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Herb book
I use this book weekly to find herbal remedies and tinctures.Highly recommend to anyone interested in remedies, God's way.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Resource on Herbs!
Very nice book! I bought it not knowing anything about herbs, and now I'm filled with useful information! I love how Castleman lays out the book, nicely organizing each herb with general stats, history of the herb, therapeutic uses, new discoveries, Rx recommendations, safety factor, and so on.It's an easy, fun read that really gets you into herbal medicine.I'd definately recommend this book!

1-0 out of 5 stars SAME THING LIKE HIS FIRST BOOK.
HE STILL NEEDS TO STUDY MORE ABOUT THE HISTORY ON WHAT THE OLDEST CULTURE OF HERBS ARE AND PLUS HE NEEDS TO STUDY MORE ON HOW OLD THE VEDAS ARE. ALL HE HAS KNOWLEDGE ON IS THE BIBLE AND HE SHOULD STICK TO THAT, WHAT HE KNOW BEST. BECAUSE THE BIBLE AND THE VEDAS ARE TWO DIFFERENT BOOKS.

5-0 out of 5 stars In Depth Guide to 100 Healing Herbs
I first checked the book out from the library for a health project, and now I'm intent on buying it! This book has so much information on 100 of the most popular herbs, including pictures of the plant, theraputic uses, safety concerns, cultivation, and etc. I strongly recommend this book for any beginner (or advanced) herb users. ... Product Description
Ayurveda, the science of life, has been divided into eight disciplines. The first six disciplines can be easily related to similar topics of modern medical science, but the last two -- Rasayana and Vajikarna, are unique in themselves and until recently were the least understood. In Indian culture Rasayana are the agents, which, among other things, cure diseases of the body and mind and delay old age. They also increase power, energy, memory, and the body's disease resistance capacity. This book describes the pre-treatment and the processes involved in Rasayana therapy, the administration of herbs and the interaction between Rasayana and Vajikarna. It also discusses the different herbs that are used as Rasayana and the effects that these agents have on the human body. This volume should be of interest to everyone involved in medicinal and aromatic plant applications and research. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of a kind book!
My husband and I are both Acupuncture Physicians and have accumulated lots of books over the years. This two-volume book stands up because of the wide variety of information but especially due to the unique herbal information presented - Western Herbs explained through the Chinese Medicine concepts. It is a really unique tool for any herbalist - there are so many things covered in this book so I will highlight just a few of them for you. Not only it gives both Western and Chinese functions and indications, but it also gives different types of therapeutical preparations, including dosages and cautions. In addition, it presents aromatherapy qualities, chemical constituents, and Ayurvedic medicine explanation. Did you think that this was all of it? Not quite. Any of the common herb books would probably have the Botanical Name and Pharmaceutical name; this book however offers names in other languages such as German, Chinese, Japanese, French, Arabic, etc. Finally, the part that I love the most about this book is the Notes section from the end of each herb. The information presented there is varied and it depends from herb to herb, however, it usually discusses more about the Chinese Medicine aspects, gives research from both Chinese and Allopathic perspective and he even goes so far to compare an herb to certain acupuncture points. I should also mention the comprehensive introduction with impressive information that any respected herbalist would love to read. Definitely worth the money! Peter Holmes did an amazing job with this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars the energetics of western herbs
This book, and its partner vol 2, form probably the most comprehensive herbal materia medica available. I find that I refer to it whenever I prescribe herbs to a patient and I would not be without it. Peter Holmesdescribes each herb from a Western and an Eastern viewpoint, includingenergetics, modern chemistry and historical perspectives. Uses are alsodescribed from both angles, with both Chinese traditional descriptive termsand modern western allopathic terms. He goes a long way towards a fullyintegrated world herbal medicine system. My favourite herbal medicine book- and I have a few! ... Read more

Product Description
Polyphenols are chemicals found in many plants. Polyphenols are usually antioxidants that can protect cells from oxidative damage caused by free radicals. Polyphenols include tannins, lignins, and flavonoids. Many polyphenols have anti-obesity activities and are beneficial for weight loss. Aging and obesity may lead to inflammatory and oxidative conditions. Inflammation and oxidative stress are also important pathological factors in obesity-related diseases such as diabetes, fatty liver, cardiovascular diseases, and cancer. Polyphenol extracts from fruits and herbs such as apples and green tea can inhibit inflammation, lower blood cholesterol and glucose levels, and reduce risks of heart diseases. These natural antioxidants can be used as dietary supplements without evident adverse effects. The latest discoveries and studies of cellular and molecular mechanisms of such polyphenols suggest that they can be potential agents for the treatment of obesity and associated diseases.

“The tested group took the supplement for twelve weeks. The study found that ingestion of … led to the reduction of total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol levels.
