3-0 out of 5 stars Hmm, it was kind of meh...
This anthology contains two hot novellas loosely interconnected - the two couples live in the same town, Summersville, and are sort of friends - and there's no need to read one to understand the other.

ANNABELLE LEE (3 stars)
Mike was one yummy hero but I wanted to smack Annabelle in the head for being so insecure. He always treated her with respect and it was obvious he wanted more than a pure sexual relationship with her, so her failure to recognize and accept that only made her look stupid. She came to her senses in the end - she had to or there would have been no HEA - but I couldn't help feeling that Mike deserved someone better.

HEAT WAVE (3 stars)
Once again, I loved the hero (Tucker) and couldn't stand the heroine (Emma). And to make things worse, the reason was the same stated above. I felt like I was reading a rehashed version of the 1st story, only Emma's insecurity was more unbelievable than Annabelle's.

Since this is an erotica/romantica anthology, these two stories are filled with hot sex scenes. Those "encounters" were OK but didn't raise my temperature. Have I become too jaded? I don't think so. Anyway, this book was good enough to keep me entertained for a couple of hours but there was nothing, good or bad, memorable about it.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Wish they could have been longer..."
These two somewhat related stories both take place in the small town of Summersville.

*****Annabelle Lee*****

Annabelle is a shy, insecure and voluptuous small town librarian, who likes to play down her natural beauty by wearing oversized clothing and pulling her long hair back in a tight bun. She's looking to start a new chapter in her life after the deaths of her elderly parents and decides to start fresh in the small town of Summersville.

Annabelle has recently been having erotic dreams about a guy in town who's caught her eye.But what should she do about it?

Confident, sexy, construction company owner Mike has his eye on Annabelle. He's tired of the dating scene and is looking to settle down.He knows what he wants (a chance for a life with Annabelle) and he sets out to get it.

Annabelle is ready for a no-strings affair and Mike wants forever. Will Annabelle's insecurities about herself keep them apart?

*****Heat Wave*****

Art gallery owner Emma is happy with the life she's made for herself. She's successful in her work, and she dates occasionally--although only men she considers 'safe' and who she has no chance of losing her heart to.Because of problems she has with her estranged father, she has no desire to risk her feelings on a handsome, exciting man.

Handsome, exciting electrical contractor Tucker is smitten with Emma. He's wanted her since he first laid eyes on her, and he works hard to get her to fall for him.He even goes as far as moving in to the same apartment building in order to be close to her.But just as Emma feels herself falling for Tucker, she pulls back. Before Emma and Tucker can have a future together, Emma must take care of her past.

Both of these stories were exciting, easy, quick reads. The love scenes are hot and sometimes erotic, and the couples believable and likeable.Although I must admit at times I got frustrated with Annabelle and her insecurities and wanted to shake her!

Both titles take place in the same small town, and Emma and Annabelle are friends, and Mike and Tucker have worked on building projects together.

What's a little unusual about these stories is that it is the men that want a more serious involvement and end up getting their feelings hurt;the women then must work to make it right and win them back.

I enjoyed these two stories very much, I only wish they could have been longer, full sized novels--4 1/2 stars! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not Art...
This book is not worth it. The size of it is deceiving. It is not art, nor is it a real collectors item. The majority of the images appear in workout magazines and are easily accessible. There is no text (which implies it has one sole purpose) and the images in the magazines are much larger than what appears in this book. The only thing this book is truly useful for is cutting up and using for a high school girl's dream poster for her bedroom.

5-0 out of 5 stars Heat, not Humidity
If I say "I wanna go to Mi-yami!" will it make me sound too whiny?

Who cares? After paging through "Miami Heatwave," the first book to feature the work of talented videographer and photographer Ron Williams, and set against the backdrop of South Florida, who wouldn't be saying the same thing?

Anyone who has ever sampled Williams' video work will appreciate this collection of still photographs. The artistry of Williams lens, the absolute physical perfection of every single male model, and the fine quality of printing (by Bruno Gmunder publishers) combine to make this one of the best collections of beautiful male photography seen in a long time.

The only quibble I have with "Miami Heatwave" is that some models are featured more than others, and the book isn't nearly extensive enough. But then, how could you ever get enough of Manny's big grin, Darren's silken, shelf-like pecs with their chocolate brown nipples, and blond Mark's amazingly perfect torso and six-pack abs? And then there's the famous Aaron, with his blond, boy-next-door gone bad hunkiness. Sigh.

With Williams' discerning eye, I can imagine he probably has material for 40 books in his (no doubt) enormous files, but his reputation for showing only his very best work may prevent most of what he has done to ever see that light of day. What a shame for his fans like me, if only because Williams' work, even on his worst day, easily outshines the best offerings of others working in the same field.

For now, anyway, we will have to be content with what Williams offers us - but let's hope that soon there will be a "Miami Heatwave II," - and III, and IV . . .

5-0 out of 5 stars Book me the next available flight to Miami!
The blurb on the back cover is absolutely right, these guys do create " a desire for summer adventure" If you've never seen a Vista Video this book will certainly get you in the mood to watch one. Many of the Vistamen are here including Aaron, one of the models whose most synonymous with Vista Video, Carlos and Eric (two of the longest serving) and many others. These portraits are sheer works of art thanks to the models themselves and also to Ron Williams' skill as a photographer. The best picture in my opinion is of Jeremy, in a close-up with his arms hugging himself and his head at a cute, almost inquistive angle, as he looks into the camera with a warm heart-tugging gaze. But then all the guys look wonderful and even manage to keep most of their clothes on, except Mark, another of my favourites who cheekily stands nude behind a strategically placed surfboard. Some may find the lack of nudity boring, I think it makes an agreeable contrast to the more revealing nature of Vista Video productions.
This photobook is superb; A stunning book full of stunning men, which should appeal to anyone who likes good looking men.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Real "Scorcher"
This book of male models is not a "Heatwave" it's a "Miami Scorcher."Ron Williams has gathered together 14 very handsome, muscular young men, photographed in brilliant color.I usually like black and white photography better because I believe it has more feeling, but this new collection of Ron William's is breathtaking in its exciting photos of men in outdoor surroundings.I especially enjoyed models, "Federico, Aaron & Carlos."What handsome & masculine men they are. Most models are photographed in swimwear, shorts, jeans & underwear. There is no need for frontal nudity, the men are much more eroticshown this way.

Ron Williams is an Emmy Award winning director living in Miami, who has created many corporate commercials in the last 20 years. He is well-known for his VistaMenseries of physique art videos showcasing many stunning sensual men who are physique models.I really enjoyed this book & hope to see more books published of his fine photography in the near future. ... Reverend Nathan Andrews is a new graduate of the seminary.Taking his first assignment as a minister to a mountain community in the Appalachian Mountains, he spends his days traveling around the mountain meeting his church members. On one such day, Nathan is stunned to come across an earthy beauty named Grace picking blackberries. No matter that he prides himself on his ability to remain chaste, Nathan suddenly wants this stunningly beautiful woman with every beat of his heart and if her eyes are telling the truth, she wants him just as much.

Achingly poignant: if I had to describe Blackberry Pie, I would use those two words.Achingly: because Nathan was a man of God, but a man first and foremost.Poignant: because a relationship between a preacher and a simple country girl would have been frowned upon during the time period Blackberry Pie took place.Nathan's inability to stop thinking about Grace made me smile.Grace's simple, yet completely accurate outlook on love and life was almost prophetic.

Bonnie Dee got me right in the heart with Blackberry Pie and I thought about this book for hours after reading it.It was earthy, it was sensual, and I adored every word.

Katie Mayes has her dream job: being a high powered executive for a high end resort has her living the life. A life that includes summer escapades with the Entertainment Director, Caleb Beckett, her subordinate, and a definite no-no in the eyes of her boss.Being told to break things off or risk losing her job has Katie torn between the hot loving she's come to crave like her next breath, or keeping her job that she loves with just as much passion. It may have been easier to make the break if lust and sex didn't just turn into love and the chance at forever.

In another explosive summer addition, heat has nothing on the intimate trysts between Katie and Caleb. Open, daring and a no holds barred evening of lust made Liaisons in Jubilee sinful to read and a delight to experience. I guess it's true that A-type personalities excel at everything, including passionate sex that could make more glaciers melt than the warming taking place on the planet. Can't wait to see what Jamie Craig has in store for their readers next, I'm sure if this juicy morsel is anything to go by, then I better make sure I keep my fan close by.

5-0 out of 5 stars 5-star reviews deserved, and then some.
I, too, took the full-year course with Prof. Holland while he was editing the book.I also took a graduate Complex Analysis course with him a year later. It is no coincidence that it is in these areas - orthogonal functions, PDE solutions in various coordinate sustems, and complex analysis - in which I consider myself an expert to this day.

Prof. Holland teaching style is mirrored in this book. The problems are numerous. He stresses the same key points throught the chapters. You practice, and you are continually reminded. If you have had the priviledge to be taught by Prof. Holland, and you keep up, you must retain the information.

What amazes me to this day is that the famous Prof. Richard Feynman avoided teaching this material to his undergraduates at Caltech.(See his Lectures in Physics, III.)Yet, Prof. Holland managed to teach this to a bunch of sophomores and juniors at the Univ. of Massachusetts to a very high degree of success by knowing what was inportant in physics, and what could be saved for later.

This text cannot be recommended highly enough.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of Prof Hollands old undergrads
I had the pleasure (challenge?) of taking Prof Holland's one year sequence of courses on Hilbert Space theory at the University of Massachusetts while he was editing this book.I agree with the previous review that the flow of the text, the problems and the descriptions of the concepts are well thought out and enabled me to grasp a rather difficult concept. The two main applications given in the text are heat transfer and, of course, Schroedinger's equation. In the case of heat transfer for instance, a number of different boundary conditions are presented to the student along with different geometries and analysis (Bessel, Fourier, etc).

If you like the problems in the text I can assure you that I crunched through all of them personally!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great achievement
It's unusual for a book on this topic to be targeted at undergraduates. What's even more unusual is that the author succeeds in explaining differential operators at this level. I found the discussions on the Legendre and Hermite operators especially illuminating. There are numerous worked examples and exercises. The real accomplishment of this text is that the author has managed to select results that are of crucial importance, omitting some important theorems along the way, but maintaining the core idea. That is a difficult trick.

5-0 out of 5 stars The perfect book for a undergraduate course on functional an
This book is for a one year course on functional analysis. It would replace a traditional course course on mathematical physics with advantage. The first two chapters are on ordinary differential equations. They are very good. The third chapter is on Hilbert spaces beggining with the vibrating string , fourier series , etc, thus motivating the last section on Hilbert Spaces. The fourth chapter is on eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of second order differential operators The remaining of the book covers the Schrodinger equation in one dimension , Bessel's Fuctions , Eigenfunctions of the Laplacian and the Fourier transform .The book explain difficult concepts in simple terms. Things like Lebesque integral,Absolutely continuos functions, etc Everything is carefully explained.Let me quote this passage on page 419: "The elements of this Hilbert Space are functions of two variables. The Hilbert spaces we considered in earlier chapters consisted in functions of one variable. Does this confuses us? Not us!"In fact the book is almost perfect ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Did not buy the characters
I was disappointed by this book.

I've read most of this series and this one seemed off to me. The plot was not what bothered me.It was the characters that bothered me. What stood out to me from the beginning was the portrayal of Sam.In the show and in every book, he's always thrust into a life that he's never experienced (that's kind of the point), but when he's thrown into the role of a police officer and father, the writing seems to show that he's familiar with the roles. He jumps right into a fatherly role with the daughter and knows what to do as a police officer.I didn't buy this at all. Also, the conflict with the daughter, father and mother is pointless.Where the mother and daughter aren't getting along never goes anywhere; it's like it's there for decoration.

Then, Al's character seemed kind of wimpy. The writing made it seem like he was afraid of every little thing. The example I'm thinking of is when he's in the house with Sam looking for clues and he's itching to leave. It seemed like that followed throughout the book.

Well, this was the worst of the series so far.The others were more true to the characters than this one.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not the best- but far from the worst
As one of the final books in the Quantum Leap series, this novel shows that the series is finally starting to show its age. As a product from the eighties, no story could be more contrived than heat wave. The familiar tale of a black man accused of a murder that he didn't commit is as common to Quantum Leap as its major characters. While Sam often fought racial inequality in many episodes of the series, it never managed to feel as forced as it does here. Perhaps its because without the actual actors playing the roles, the polar opposites of Sam and Al aren't "real" enough to be believable. In earlier novels in the series, the stories were aided by a fully realized understanding of the characters and an added depth that was often missing from the show. Here, it seems that the author has merely rewatched a few episodes of the series and has given little thought to expanding the world. That, coupled with a story that feels done on many a murder she wrote episode, drags this book down to the bottom of the barrel. For die hard fans of the series only.

5-0 out of 5 stars Well Done!
The previous review was a little harsh. This is not shakespeare. It's Quantum Leap.I found the book utterly enjoyable and found myself totally engrossed both in the story and the characters.Everyone always says they knew whodunnit after the finished reading the book.I came out herespecifically to look for other books by this author.I am disappointedthat I did not find any.I hope she decides to write more stories.Theprevious reviewer also talked about typos. This book was edited betterthan most paperbacks I read.C'mon, it's a paperback.Get past thefew typos and just enjoy the book!

If you liked the Quantum Leaptelevision series, read this book. You won't be disapointed!

2-0 out of 5 stars Unfortunate
The strengths of the television series Quantum Leap, upon which this book was based, were interesting plots, well-developed characters, a consistent milieu and the expressed conviction that Good will triumph over Evil. While "Heat Wave" certainly espouses the latter, it falls short in the other categories.

The plot, a small-town murder mystery, can work quite well, but in this case the clues were too obvious, the elimination of suspects too pat, and the investigation too police-like and not enough Sam-like... which brings me to the point of characterization.Although Al's wardrobe adds color to any situation, our familiar team is transformed from three dimensions to two through the use of hyperbolic caricatures of their personality traits... and the walk-ons, the men and women of the small town setting for this novel, lack the depth needed to support their own contradictions.Arguably the most detracting aspect of this novel, however, were the anachronisms and flat-out typos, which indicated a lack of editorial oversight and research.

In short, Heat Wave left me cold. ... Read more

Michel Marc Bouchard’s Heat Wave tells the story of a family learning how to live again after a three–year vigil at the bedside of controlling patriarch Fred Cloutier. Cloutier is still controlling his wife and children from beyond the grave, as the characters deal with guilt complexes created by years of manipulation. But this situation comedy is mainly about love, about May/September relationships, and about appearances and not–so–little white lies that people tell in order to disguise their true selves and deny their true emotions.

Excerpt:A powerful earthquake on 3 January 1117 struck northern Italy and Germany , rated a VII on the Mercalli intensity scale . The epicentre of the first shock was near Verona , the city which suffered the most damage. The outer wall of the amphitheatre was partially felled, and the standing portion was damaged in a later earthquake of 1183. Many other churches, monasteries, and ancient monuments were destroyed or seriously damaged, eliminating much of Verona's early medieval architecture and providing space for a massive Romanesque rebuilding. After the first shock of 3 January, seismic activity persisted for months, striking on 12 January, 4 June, 1 July, 1 October, and 30 December. The earthquake was not only felt at Verona but across northern Italy, from Cividale to Pavia , south to Pisa and north to Switzerland . Outside of Verona the most damaged areas were Milan , Bergamo , Brescia , Venice , Treviso , Modena , Parma , and Cremona . News of the earthquake reached Montecassino and Reims . The Milanese chronicler Landolfo Iuniore reported that the church synods needed to be carried out in the open air, due to the destruction. In Germany, damage was also extensive. The Michaelskirche in Bamberg , the abbey at Brauweiler , and buildings in Rottenburg am Neckar , Constance , Meersburg , and Fénis were all reported damaged. Excerpt: 1936 Atlantic hurricane season -On June 9, a tropical storm made landfall on the Pacific coast of Guatemala. It moved northeastward across Central America, and entered the western Caribbean Sea on June 11. The storm quickly re-organized, and again developed into a tropical storm on June 12. It moved north-northeastward, resulting in light winds as it paralleled the eastern coasts of Belize and the Yucatan Peninsula. After reaching the Gulf of Mexico with peak winds of 45 miles per hour (72 km/h), the storm turned to the northeast, then to the east. On June 15, the tropical storm made landfall about 20 miles (32 km) to the south of Fort Myers, Florida, and after crossing the state it passed over Miami before entering the Atlantic Ocean. It weakened as it accelerated northeastward through the Bahamas, and on June 17 the system dissipated to the north of Bermuda. While crossing Central America, the storm produced heavy rainfall.
