There was a total of fifty-one students, so sometimes it was hard to get transportation for the entire group. Other days we would have free time and it was during those times that I learned more about the culture, tribes, and politics of The Gambia."

This year, the programme commenced with a carnival from the Arch 22 to Fitzgerald Street along with traditional dresses, songs and dances, led by the police band. Speaking at the occasion, the SOS for Fisheries and Natural Resources, Mrs. Susan Wafa Ogoo, urged the people of Banjul to unite and emulate their grand parents who had lived in love and harmony. 'Don't let politics tear you apart,' she advised. One of Banjul's most illustrious sons, Amigo Jeng, proprietor of ICE Man and Jeng's Electrical, lauded the programme's initiator, Emmanuel 'Manukumba' Williams for 'organising such an important programme like Banjul Demba.' Mr. Jeng also thanked President Jammeh for what he called 'his wonderful support' and urged Banjulians to unite for the betterment of the Gambia.
