Great How-To Book For Avoiding Gluten
I love this book, even though I don't bake nor need be gluten free. I'm reviewing this book as a 'how-to' book because I've written and edited 'how to' books in the past.Gluten-Free Jubilee has the hallmarks of excellent 'how-to' book, and I found it to be a fun, quick, easy read.The copies I bought have made great gifts for my friends with celiac and for my favorite bakery which now offers many gluten-free baked goods.I use "Gluten-Free Jubilee" as a reference book so I can be sensitive to visitor's food allergies and because I'm finding that many of my acquaintances prefer to avoid wheat, like me, or have celiac/gluten intolerance. Very Comprehensive Guide for AdWords
I am planning to enter the world of e-commerce and am reading as many books as possible relating to the topic.This book was extremely comprehensive for a Dummies book.I have read other Dummies books in the past that were a little too basic.This book was very complete about telling nearly everything one needs to know in order to start using AdWords.The book also includes screenshot photos so one can understand what the AdWords pages will look like.The book is full of 400 pages of instruction and ideas for using AdWords.This will be a great reference book once I have my web business online!

You'll Keep Coming Back to this Book
This was my first Adwords book that I purchased. I have purchased many more since then but I always come back to this one. It's very clear and concise. Howie has a great writing style with just enough humor to make it interesting.

He also has a very nice companion site, and after I registered on that site I got a personal email from Howie himself.

This book is a complete and thorough discussion of Adwords. My favorite parts of the book were the chapters on Landing Pages and Conversions. Oddly enough, many other books are light in these areas and focus to much on click-through-rate. Howie does a good job of explaining not just which keywords get you the most traffic, but which keywords get you the most money.

The only downside is the Kindle Edition. There are many screenshots that are just unreadable on the Kindle, and on the iPad.

Very Helpful and Profitable
As a beginning user of AdWords, this book got me up to speed in a hurry. We immediately implemented several ideas and are having great results. It's not just for a beginner though. I think all experience levels can benefit from this book. It's a great reference. Howie Jacobson has done his homework. I'm excited to keep learning and keep trying out his suggestions.

Great AdWords Book But Where is the SEO?
I teach SEO (Search Engine Optimization), both online in and in San Francisco.So perhaps I am somewhat biased.However, I am a firm believer in advertising and AdWords - in the right circumstances.I read Jacobson's book, cover to cover.This is an EXCELLENT AdWords book - especially in the very step-by-step, detailed way he explains the AdWords interface (especially liked his discussion of split / testing ads and using the Google AdWords tools for keywords).

Jacobson is also not a Google apologist - at times he is critical of Google, and explains things like when to use the Content network, and when not to.Why you should be skeptical of Google optimization tools, etc.That impresses me a lot because many of the AdWords folks are so thoroughly in Google's camp that they do not provide objective advice on how to MINIMIZE your AdWords spend.

Beyond that, the one big missing element of the book was SEO: Search Engine Optimization is all about getting to the top of the FREE listings.It isn't a book about SEO, but a chapter placing AdWords in the context of SEO would be very helpful.Should you advertise?When?How do you combine an effective SEO and PPC strategy?These are very important questions, and that "missing chapter" should be in his next books.

unuseful for this day and age...
I love frugal and economical but this book made no sense to me. Reminds me of the foxwoods books but not nearly as useful.My first Kindle book that I had to delete without even reading half.

Review of the free KINDLE version of "The American Frugal Housewife"

This is for the most part, the only proper "Introduction" that the reader encounters when starting "The American Frugal Housewife, for Ms. Lydia Maria Francis Child plunges right in and begins dishing out advice left and right, providing a veritable flood of information.She advises, for example, that children not be allowed to frolic about until 13 or 14 years of age.

"This is not well. It is not well for the purses and patience of parents; and it has a
still worse effect on the morals and habits of the children. Begin early is the great
maxim for everything in education. A child of six years old can be made useful and
should be taught to consider every day lost in which some little thing has not been done
to assist others."

Other advice consists of how economize and how keep what you have in good repair. Everything from stockings to hearths, from apples to sausages.In addition, there is medical advice, and instructions on how to cook a variety of foods.Everything from porridges to cows brains, herbed wines to pies.

STEWED PRUNES.

Stew them very gently in a small quantity of water till stones slip out. Physicians
consider them safe nourishment in fevers.

BEANS AND PEAS.

Baked beans are a very simple dish, yet few cook them well. They should be put in cold
water, and hung over the fire, the night before they are baked. In the morning, they
should be put in a colander, and rinsed two or three times; then again placed in a
kettle, with the pork you intend to bake, covered with water, and kept scalding hot, in
hour or more. A pound of pork is quite enough for a quart of beans, and that is a large
dinner for a common family. The rind of the pork should be slashed. Pieces of pork alter-
nately fat and lean, are the most suitable ; the cheeks are the best. A little pepper
sprinkled among the beans, when they are placed in the bean-pot, will render them less
unhealthy. They should be just covered with water, when put into the oven ; and the pork
should be sunk a little below the surface of the beans. Bake three or four hours.

THE SKINNY:::
To be perfectly honest, there is some sound advice here.Some of it inspired by Ben Franklin, and some of it coming from friends and articles read by the author.

I found this an absolutely fascinating book that gives some wonderful insight into the daily life of early American families. We get to see what the concerns of housewives were, and how life was lived amongst a class of people -- the less well-off -- that is frequently overlooked by historical studies.

Ms. Child was born in 1802.She was raised by a strict Calvinist father and later she married a lawyer who proved to be an improvident dreamer who at times was imprisoned for his debts. As a consequence she knows frugality quite well.

The American Frugal Housewife is extremely well written, and was extremely well received at the time it was first put up for sale.In fact, it was republished 27 times between 1835 and 1841.

I HIGHLY recommend this work to students of history and those who are interested in early American life.

As for the "Kindle" format, I must say that this particular version comes with 'highlights', some of which are definitions. These are easy to access or ignore. (Which is why I can't tell you what they all are.) Being a FREE book it's hard to complain, but I should note that there are images from the original book that don't appear in the Kindle copy. They pertain to the parts of animals -- rumps, chops, etc.-- and aren't particularly valuable.But if you are curious you can find them at GoogleBooks and Archive-dot-org, both of whom have their own free copies.

Great, but sit with the internet next to you
Great book, hard to put down. Like reading a time capsule. BUT, I was constantly highlighting and underlining, because I was unfamiliar with many of the "ingredients" she has listed.

An Excellent Read
This little book is filled with such wonderful information... back when wives & mothers HAD to do so much on their own, when they didn't have the internet to "run & look something up" they had a wealth of information they passed along to each other & to their daughters.This is for all you women who, like me, never had "all that stuff" passed down to you.
