5-0 out of 5 stars Good bread recipe
Bought this book when I returned from Scotland ( who have great GF bread in the Grocery store). One good brand (Genius) was from this author.Bread recipe in this book is the best so far without the funny GF taste. However, it is not the same bread that she sells in the grocery store and there are a few omissions in the recipe..... you must let the bread rise before baking, bake for 60 min instead of 45min, add less xanthum gum, use molasses instead of brown sugar for brown bread. Had to buy a new bread pan 7 1/2" x 3 1/2 from Magic Line, since it will rise better in the narrower pan. Please note that this is a book from Europe and you must weigh the ingredients. Also the recipe calls for Cornflour... this is Corn starch in the USA.Recipe calls for Potato flour... this is Potato Starch in the USA.I would rate this book a three if I could change it because the recipe needs changing. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Barely Useful
I bought 2 rotation diet cookbooks when I found out my family had severe food allergies. This had recipes and a suggested rotation menu for 4 days, but that was it. It was designed for England, so some of the foods were different. The food families were not numbered, just listed, so you couldn't tell by looking which foods were related to which. It was very limited in terms of recipes and setup. I would not recommend it, and I would not buy it unless I needed more recipes for my rotation diet. Even then it might not work because its plan may be too different compared to yours. I highly recommend "5 years without food" by N. Dumke instead. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Cooking Free - Great recipes
I have a lot of cookbooks, but this one will remain a favorite. With several in my family that have food allergies and intolerances, Cooking Free has enabled me to provide them their favorite foods using alternative recipes for homemade bread, cookies, pastries, soups, even whole meals.I recommend this book to all who find that they too need to replace wheat, dairy, eggs or other ingredients in their diets.

It is a joy once again to have a dish to share, that we can eat, and yet be good enough to bring to pot-lucks or parties. The no-gluten desserts and breads have been such a hit.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent source of information
I bought this book for neices and nephews (10, 12 and 7 years old) who were diagnosed with gluten and diary issues. The flour blend allowed them to stretch their wings. They made Basic Chocolate Cake and Chocolate Brownies without much guidance. They will be using this book as a reference book. An easy book to use.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great recipes!
This book contains exactly the type of gluten-free cane sugar-free recipes that I've been looking for. Good selection of food types as well.

4-0 out of 5 stars Love it!
I love this book--not only are the recipes great, but in the back it talks about the "whys" and "hows" of substituting ingredients and the chemistry of cooking. Most of the recipes have options for eggs OR eggless, etc. I love this cookbook and so do all my in-laws with allergies!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for those with multiple sensitivities
I am gluten-dairy-egg-and-sugar-free (among other things), so finding this book was like a godsend. Many recipes have been fantastic. The Foccacia is my current favorite. However, many of her recipes use soy - pureed tofu for example, to replace eggs. In those cases, since I am avoiding soy, I simply use my own egg-replacement - ground flax mixed with hot or boiling water (1T flax to 3T water = 1 egg), and it has worked for me. She also tends to use "fructose granules" instead of sugar, which I have been hesitant to try, since I am used to non-refined sugars only, this one sounds refined to me. It is difficult to find other dry sugar replacements so when I replace with agave or honey (using her instructions of using 3/4 the amount AND reducing other liquid in the recipe), it still comes out too moist. I still love this book though, and highly recommend it. Another great book that is very similar is "Whole Life Nutrition" by Alissa Segersten and Tom Malterre - mostly gluten, dairy, egg & refined-sugar free also - as well as their wonderful blog, [...]. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great practical tips
My toddler was diagnosed with a peanut allergy several months ago.I recently purchased 3 items -- these flashcards, The Peanut Allergy Answer Book, and the toddler book "Mommy is this safe to eat?"The 3 complimented each other, and each serves a different purpose if you have a peanut allergic child. These flashcards are great because caregivers can quickly review them to understand risks for your child. Each card identifies one area/subject (such as bakery items, the ballpark, airplanes, the playground) describes the risk (if any), and gives practical tips for managing the risk.Although I have done a lot of reading since my son's diagnosis, these cards brought things to my attention I hadn't thought of, like the danger of my birdfeeder.I highly recommend these cards.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Good Tool.
I thought this was very helpful. I have purchased one for our house, the grandparents' house and am planning on buying a couple copies for my daughter's school (one for the classroom and one for the school nurse).

5-0 out of 5 stars Keep your allergic child safe
These great flashcards make it easy to learn about caring for a child with a peanut allergy. The fun illustrations and format are perfect for teaching children at home or at school.I can go through a couple flashcards with my kids while they are eating snacks.

The flashcards are also great for caregivers, grandparents, and neighbors. They highlight places you might not think to find peanuts.Using these can absolutely help keep our allergic children safer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Now I have a better understanding of the peanut allergy
My co-worker has a child with a life-threatening peanut allergy. We would have conversations about her struggles when it came to leaving her child at school, with babysitters or even with family members. She shared these flashcards with me and it was a real eye opener. After flipping through the cards for ten minutes everything she had been talking to me about for the past year started making more sense. For instance, I would never have considered buying bulk food a danger but now I know that it is for those with peanut allergies.I now have a much greater understanding of why vigilance is necessary to keep her child safe.I would recommend these cards to anyone who around a child with these allergies. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars try a few allergens
The answer to wheat/gluten sensitivity seems to be... organic, whole grain wheat and spelt! Seriously? Then, if you can't eat eggs, try the free-range ones. Can't eat dairy? Try organic dairy. If you are, like my family, trying to figure out what to eat when you can't eat anything, skip this book and look elsewhere.

5-0 out of 5 stars an allergy cookbook with a great attitude!
This book is more of a "complete intolerance" cookbook than a complete allergy cookbook, it's true. But what I've learned recently is that most of my allergies and other auto-immune problems were rooted in food intolerances.I'd been living a very restricted diet after being diagnosed with many food allergies, but finally found out that dairy was the real culprit.Eating a green diet free of foods that trigger my sensitivities has given me my health back, after what I now realize was over a decade without it.My asthma went from moderate/severe to practically non-existent, my energy levels are so much higher, my joint problems are fading, and I'm finally living without the daily drama of IBS.It's a good diet to treat auto-immune/inflammatory diseases. The authors of this book have a great attitude and a positive outlook for a life with food sensitivities (unlike many draconian allergy cookbooks), and I think it will really resonate with younger readers (children and teenagers) whose initial impulse is to resist or rebel against restricted diets.

1-0 out of 5 stars The title is not true to the book
Of all the allergy cookbooks that I've purchased (and I've purchased a few), this is the worse! The title says "what to eat when you can't eat anything", and yet the recipes uses all the main allergens as basic ingredients, not solving my problem. I do not recommend it. It's really a waste of time and money...

5-0 out of 5 stars Proud Mama!
Hi guys! These two wonderful young authors are my two wonderful young adult children and What To Eat's whole philosophy is to try and get you back eating scrumptious food and NOT stuck in the I can't eat anything ever again mode.We were there, but we found when we switched to ALL organic foods that many of the allergic problems just fell away. But you have to be ruthless - no processed foods, no junk foods,no pesticde laden foods, no yeast and no sugar. What To Eat is all about getting back to a healthy, old-fashioned, clean and simple diet. We hope you seriously enjoy! Proud Mama, Rosita

Product Description

The first cookbook on this hot health topic

Trillions of bacteria naturally occur in the intestines, and most help protect the body from disease. These protective bacteria are called probiotics. Foods that nourish these "good" bacteria are called prebiotics.A number of factors can upset the balance between the levels of "good" and "bad" bacteria. There is evidence that consuming foods that are rich in "good" bacteria as well as foods that nourish these bacteria may help maintain a healthy balance of bacteria in the intestines and help improve health and fight certain diseases, like heart disease and cancer. This cookbook is organized by prebiotic and probiotic food recipes. Each of the 100 tasty recipes include instructions for properly cooking and storing food to preserve optimal levels of good bacteria.

2-0 out of 5 stars Better books on probiotics
I ordered this book because the author lives not too far away and if I liked what she had to say I'd make an appointment to see her. I never made the appointment.

I'd recommend Probiotics Revolution and Bacteria for Breakfast (which needs an index).

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice compendium of pre/probiotic recipes with good health info
This is a really nice book with many pictures and recipes. The recipes are easy and look delicious. There are early chapters with a lot of excellent info on the role of probiotics for health. It's really a lovely book that was put together to be easthetically pleasing as well as informationally useful. If you need probiotics in your diet, this is a good book to have. The recipes won't necessarily work miracles for your health by themselves but they will inform you on how to enhance your diet with foods that have pre/probiotic qualities. The only criticism I'd have of it would be that the recipes aren't as potent for probiotics as could be designed by let's say a real master, perhaps an experienced herbalist who cooks for healing. That would make it a much better book. So don't get your healing hopes up too high when you get this book. I have a book on chinese medicine that has a few recipes for healing in it that really work-- that's what I mean. Other than that, this is a fine book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book!
Probiotic and Prebiotic Recipes for Health is an excellent book to read if you are looking to improve your digestive system and health with practical tips, guidelines and recipes. They say your digestion is the engine that drives your bodies overall health, immune system, daily energy levels and protection against illness.Since I have food allergies and food intolerances, I found this book loaded with easy-to-read information that I am using to improve my own allergies. Now I'm not confused about all the differences and health benefits of yogurt, kefir, and the other varieties of fruits and vegetable for improving digestion. As a physical therapist, I will highly recommend this book to my patients who are suffering with digestive problems. ... Product Description
For nearly two million years, humans and our hominid ancestors were eating in the hunter/gatherer style of foraging for a wide variety of healthy fruits and vegetables and then hunting and scavenging for large game. However, about 9,000 years ago, humans started eating in a manner contrary to their design, while living increasingly sedentary lives. In The Evolution Diet: All-Natural and Allergy Free, Joseph SB Morse shows how we can achieve ultimate health by emulating our ancestors' hunter/gatherer lifestyle. You're about to embark on an insightful, and often humorous journey to discover how humans evolved to eat, what cultureless humans would eat, and how we can use that knowledge with today's technology and wealth to develop the ideal diet. Included in this edition is a detailed section on the most common food allergies and intolerances: dairy, egg, peanut, seafood, shellfish, soy, tree nut, and wheat (including celiac). The benefits of The Evolution Diet are immediate and include attaining an ideal weight, achieving balanced energy throughout the day, better sleep, and alleviation of symptoms from food intolerances and allergies. If you've been asking yourself what and how we were designed to eat, Morse's The Evolution Diet is the answer. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this diet
I work with people to maximize their diets and I've worked with 100's of different eating plans, from Atkins to the Zone. I have to say, this is better than anything else on the market. This third edition includes great information about food intoleraces and allergies and provides a wealth of food options that fit within the "All-Natural and Allergy Free" life. The other content is there too, but if you have celiac, egg or nut allergies, dairy intolerances, this is the book for you. Some of my clients have said that it's a lifesaver.

5-0 out of 5 stars A doctor a day keeps the apples away
Being a doctor, I'm inundated with requests from pharmaceutical companies to promote this or give away that and I constantly am influenced to keep the patients coming back (especially if they have a good insurance program). But I know that we don't have a health care system, we have a sick care system that aims at keeping people sick and thus dependent on the medical profession. It's a bittersweet emotion for me as a doctor that benefits from the system and also someone who has hypochondriac relatives.

That's why it's refreshing to read a perspective that opposes my "doctor a day keeps the apples away," mentality. Morse's Evolution Diet makes it clear how to live a natural and allergy-free life and keep the DOCTORS away. It's not easy for a lot of people-those on the inject McDonalds in mouth then take pill to alleviate symptoms from too much junk food diet--but it's worth it. Once you get on the natural diet (the way you were designed to eat), you will feel so good, you won't want to give it up even for something that used to taste good like French Fries.

The latests edition here is chalk full of useful and entertaining info. I will recommend it to all of my patients as an alternative to the ubiquitous pharmaceutical. ... Read more

In Get to Know Your Gut, Joan Sauers and Joanna McMillan-Price take a candid, often hilarious look at the inner workings of our gut, explaining to readers why their stomachs act the way they do and how they can avoid many "uncomfortable" situations.
