Excerpt: The Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts, or Kraków Academy of Fine Arts (Polish: , usually abbreviated ASP), located in Kraków, Poland, is the oldest Polish fine-arts academy, established in 1818. It is a state-run university that offers 5- and 6-year Master's degree programs. As of 2007, the Academy's faculty comprised 94 professors and assistant professors as well as 147 Ph.D.s. The Academy of Fine Arts was originally a subdivision of the Jagiellonian University's Department of Literature and was initially (1818-1873) called School of Drawing and Painting (Szkoa Rysunku i Malarstwa). It received the status of an independent institution of higher learning in 1873 as the School of Fine Arts (Szkoa Sztuk Piknych). The first President of the Academy was painter Jan Matejko. The main building based on a neoclassical design by architect Maciej Moraczewski was erected in today's Matejko Square in 1879. The first professors were Florian Stanisaw Cynk, Aleksander Gryglewski and Leopold Loeffler. Following the death of Jan Matejko, the next ASP President was Julian Faat, who remained at his post till 1909. Faat gave the Academy a new direction hiring new art instructors associated with contemporary Western art philosophies; painters such as Teodor Axentowicz, Jacek Malczewski, Jan Stanisawski, Leon Wyczókowski, Konstanty Laszczka, Józef Mehoffer, Stanisaw Wyspiaski, Wojciech Weiss, and Józef Pankiewicz. an ESSENTIAL for any aspiring fashion designer!
This book is a MUST for anyone seeking great real, and relevant advice from a professional source. When I first purchased it, I expected something still informative, but mostly witty --turns out, it's BOTH!As a current fashion student and freelance professional, this is my new go-to source for inspiration, essential technical tricks (both for construction and illustration), and grounding. The author includes things they do not teach you in school, and wisdom that takes years to accumulate in the fashion industry.Make it accessible in your home and read often so these ideas are freshly with you. I cannot recommend this gem of a book enough!

A VERY good read!
This is a very comprehensive book. Well written. It taught me how much really goes into their creations. I highly recommend this book!

It took them long enough...
With all the Project Runway and The Fashion Show, it was about time that 101 Things came up with Fashion School. How interesting to find out tit bits from an actual insider!
Fashion is not so romantic, it is a business. This book lays it out, very informative. Thumbs up.

Inside Fashion School
This is a very interesting and enjoyable read.I got a lot of insight into a world that I knew very little about before reading.I know a lot of people in fashion and I feel I now know a little more about what they do.Totally recommend reading it.

This book was written for all the diva wannabe's out there. (Like me. Haha.) I don't know a thing about fashion. I like to see other people all decked out in the latest designs, but I am clueless as to what is designer and what is from Walmart. I found a lot of interesting information in this book and I am a couple steps closer to being a fashion queen. So watch out everyone, I'm about to be a star! I paged through the book and found the illustrations very well done and the reading both interesting and factual.

I bought this as a gift for a preteen intersted in Fashion Designing.I flipped threw it.From what I seen it does a great job of going over things. They enjoyed the book a lot.

this book sucks
i don't know what these other people are talking about, but i bought this book thinking it would be great for my little sister who is an aspiring fashion designer, and i thought it would be a good book due to these other reviews, but i was very very disappointed. this book sucks.

Covers topic well
I bought this for my niece, but read it first. This book covers a lot of material and is written for pre-teens and teens. The people it lists as current designers is out-dated, but other than that, it is a good resource.
