5-0 out of 5 stars Every divorced father & Mother should read this book
You can change the title to "A Mother's Rights" it works both ways. This is the best book I have ever read on a parents rights. It is so fasinating & an easy read.
Everyone who is going to court over child custody should read this book first before they ever step into a courtroom.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wish I had this from day 1
There's a lot of great info in here.I wish I had bought this the day the divorce started.Even a year later, it's a great resource.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must-have for fathers
I bought this book before retaining an attorney. Other than helping me choose and communicate effectively with my attorney, this book was particularly helpful with the following issues.

Mr. Gross first emphasizes the importance of separating legal issues from non-legal issues, and the importance of establishing an effective support structure accordingly. We need an attorney for legal issues, but we need friends, family, and therapists to address your emotional issues. This may sound so obvious, but I found myself from time to time tempted to mix those different sets of issues. This book has always reminded me to "put legal and financial issues in one basket (for my attorney), and emotional issues in another basket (for family and friends)."Thanks to this book, I have been able to receive great legal help from my attorney without wasting my money addressing issues that do not even help my legal case, and receive unconditional emotional support from my friends.

In the majority of the book, Mr. Gross explains how the family law system is set up, what options are available, what to expected in different legal procedures, what to consider when we take an action, etc. His explanations are very clear and succinct. He provides a lot of concrete pieces of advice (what to do and what not to do). The range of topics he covers is very wide; so, I encourage you to look at the table of contents. In this light, this book was extremely helpful educating myself with the legal system, and made my communication with my attorney very effective.

I found his appendices very useful. While there are a lot of commonalities across the country, different states approach/view the same legal issues differently. Mr. Gross fills this gap in Appendix C: Custody Presumptions and in Appendix D: Custody Factors.

Last but not least, I like the author's tone of voice. He acknowledges emotional issues that divorcing/separating fathers go through, and his sensitivity is reflected in the overall tone of the book. If you're "freaking out" about custody issues, this is one of the best books that I strongly recommend.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must read-but with another book,
'Fathers rights' is an excellent book for all those many thousands of us trying to keep in touch with much loved kids after divorce. I would strongly recommend reading FAMILY COURT HELL (available on amazon) with this book too. FAMILY COURT HELL is about one man's case that went to court a record 133 times and launched the worldwide Fathers 4 Justicecampaign. The FAMILY COURT HELL case eventually resolved, but with no thanks to any court or judge, but instead with a combination of the fathers determination, the international protests he launched and his kids becoming old enough to take on the mother and the family law system-which they won! A must read, both books, gives you hope through the darkest of days.

5-0 out of 5 stars Greatest Book Period
I have to say it is an excellent book. I do not have any children, but a
lot of my friends do. Some are married and some aren't. I have convinced 4
of them to read the book and 3 out of the 4 finished. I learned so much
from this book. All my friends have said the same thing that I have after
reading the book. You are very clear expressing your point. That makes a world of difference in reading a book, is how easy it is to understand. I am into family law and this has to be the best book I have ever read period. Not just for a law book, but for any book, it has changed my life. It makes me
think about every step I take. ... Read more

Product Description
This book considers the appropriate response of the criminal law with regard to women whose acts or omissions in pregnancy cause the death or injury of the child born alive. It compares recent developments in English law in the light of the Human Rights Act 1998, with those in America, which has seen an enormous growth in litigation over the last two decades. In England and Wales, the 'born alive rule' is currently applied only to third parties who injure the fetus, which is later born alive and dies as a result of these injuries. In some American states, a rule of similar origins has been extended so as to criminalize recent mothers whose acts or omissions in pregnancy caused injury or death to the resulting child. The author examines the implications of the laws in both systems, and also looks at the rights of the mother and child in relation to the obligations of the state to protect both of them. ... Product Description
This eminently practical book provides text and expert commentary on all international Conventions that bear directly on the rights of the child. The legal issues covered include, among others, the child and immigration, intercountry adoption, international child abduction, human rights, armed conflict, and maintenance moneys. It is the first book ever to bring together Conventions that can be realistically relied upon in domestic courts, helping practitioners to avoid the pitfall of being deemed academic or distant from legal realities. Drawing on his extensive in-court experience, Jeremy Rosenblatt shows exactly how each Convention may be used to remind courts and judges of their obligations of an international nature, whether or not such Conventions have been incorporated into the domestic system. Among the Conventions presented and discussed, insofar as they bear on children's rights, are the Dublin Convention, the Hague Convention on Intercountry Adoption 1993, the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, and the Brussels and Lugano Conventions. The author shows how to ensure uniform processes for the protection of the rights of the child everywhere by invoking respective and uniform Conventions that are directly applicable in individual jurisdictions as a result of legal systems globally owning competence and legal comity with one another. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars A battle for a child.
Cory Jacobs has just returned to Ann Arbor, Michigan to become a father to his son Cory Jr., whom he has not seen in four years. Realizing the mistakes he made in the past, Cory wants to put all the negativity and hurt from his first marriage behind him. Finally, he is ready to reach out to his estranged ex-wife Paula, for the sake of little Cory. The first meeting between father and son is a positive one, the two quickly form a loving bond as if no time ever separated them.

All is well with the reunion until Paula becomes uncooperative by denying Cory access to his son's social security number for insurance purposes. Cory then begins to suspect that Paula may be up to something unsavory regarding Cory and government funds; further investigation proves his theory correct. Paula soon becomes enraged upon learning that Cory is happily remarried and no longer wants a relationship with her.For spite, she begins to deny Cory his visitation rights. Heartbroken and frustrated, Cory tries to gain access to his son, only to have Paula sabotaging his efforts every step of the way. Leaving him no other choice, Cory must seek custodial rights through the courts, prompting even more hateful antics from Paula.

FATHERS HAVE RIGHTS TOO by Robert G. Lockhart had the potential to be a good novel regarding the trials and tribulations that fathers endure when battling for parental rights. However, there were some distracting aspects of the novel. The dialogue between the characters was stiff and at times didn't seem to flow naturally. The characters could have been developed a bit more as well, they seemed too one dimensional. I would have loved to have read more in depth details about what drove Cory. What truly drove him to seek a relationship with his son after all that time had passed? And why was he so willing to take care of another woman's children when he had no interaction with his own? Paula seemed to be just a stereotypical vengeful woman. It would have been interesting reading if we were given more information into her thoughts and her life.

Characters also seemed to pop up out of nowhere, like the character of Cory's daughter by a third woman. There was no mention of her or her mother until mid novel when she came over for a visit. Disappointingly, the great court battle was anything but great, it lacked any kind of excitement. A novel regarding a father's legal battles could have used a heartfelt court scene. The novel was in need of an editor. There were mistakes in sentence structure, and there were some sentences with a missing word here and there. Throughout the novel, one sentence would end and the very next one would put you in a different time and place without warning causing the reader to pause and reread for clarity.

Product Description
A former sex offender looks into his past and tells readers sixty ways they can protect their children from sexual predators. Two-dozen of them are steps that children can take as they get older and the author urges they be taught to do so.

Chapter-by-chapter, the author uses the story of his own formation as a sexual predator, his struggle against his darkest urges and then his recovery in prison—now in its fifteen year—to draw lessons parents can employ to prevent their child from being harmed. Examples include safety precautions when taking your children with you on trips, knowing who their older friends are and not letting your daughter dress in a way that will bring her problems she could not know how to handle yet. Steps that sex offenders can take to earn their way back into the community and a prescription for the healing of America conclude the work.

The readers’ resources section includes a listing of useful books, journals, websites, referral agencies and self-recovery organizations. Fully indexed, the book will be an indispensable guide in all future child sex abuse trials.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must read for parents.....
The book is useful because of the information parents can use to teach their children about the bad people in society and that they have the power to run away immediately when a stranger asks them to come with them, or help them look for a lost item. Or when someone says a parent has been injured and the child needs to go with them.

And every parent needs to look at their states website and see if they have a Megans Law link which will show the area they live in. And children and adults need to see that sexual predators usually look like the next door neighbor. Children need to know that bad people don't look bad, but actually look very normal. And its good to have information about insisting children feel comfortable telling when someone has said something sexual or touched in an uncomfortable way.

And while I admire the one day at a time mode the author has taken to constantly remind himself that even looking at a child can be dangerous I want to know more about those who are released from prison who lack the self discipline and prefer to play pity party and in doing so, become repeat offenders. And how do we help children today who are victims, not grow up to become offenders themselves? That's one subject we don't hear enough about. How we we prevent the problem in the first place?

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Insight
Of the books I have read that include personal accounts from self-identified pedophiles, this one is the best.I believe the strength of this book lies in the fact that the author is a lawyer so he was also able to address the problems of the justice system and shed light into exactly why some pedophiles do not get the treatment they need even if they want it while in prison. The recommendations for what needs to change in the system and how anyone can begin helping to make changes in order to protect children are very practical in my opinion. The only caveat I would add is that I do believe the author is a highly motivated, self-identified pedophile who accepts what he is openly and has searched hard to understand what he is and why, willingly accepted treatment, and actively works hard everyday to NOT reoffend and hurt children.I cannot say I have read many accounts where this is typical of pedophiles.I think the author is a remarkable example to show that it can be done, but I seriously doubt it is typical of many in that community. ... Product Description

Canada signed the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child over a decade ago, yet there is still a lack of awareness about and provision for children’s rights.

What are Canada’s obligations to children? How has Canada fallen short? Why is it so important to the future of Canadian society that children’s rights be met?

Prompted by the gap between the promise of children’s rights and the reality of their continuing denial, Katherine Covell and R. Brian Howe call for changes to existing laws, policies and practices. Using the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child as their framework, the authors examine the continuing problems of child poverty, child care, child protection, youth justice and the suppression of children’s voices. They challenge us to move from seeing children as parental property to seeing children as independent bearers of rights.

In The Challenge of Children’s Rights for Canada, Canada’s obligations and the rights of children are examined from the perspectives of research and development in the fields of developmental psychology, developmental neuroscience, law and family policy.

This timely and accessible book will be of interest to academics, policy-makers and anyone who cares about children and about taking children’s rights seriously.
