Extractions: If you are interested in the Media (in any of its forms), if you watch it, study it, teach it at GCSE, AS or A Level or if you just use it you may find this useful. This is just some basic research that I have done for my own purposes, quick links to institutions, companies, and websites that can help me track the Big Five in entertainment, recent films, ancient films, radio, TV and print media with a little music thrown in. Click on any of the sections below and start your own research: Perhaps the most difficult area for students of AS and A Level Media and Film Studies to understand is that of the effect of ownership on the box office, the small screen or the print media. It's easy to understand that if you buy a ticket, magazine or watch a TV show you influence what gets made or shown to you next. What's hard to understand is that that is only one small aspect of an industry that makes more money out of merchandise than it does out of bums on seats and which is obsessed with target audiences, genre and, of course, money. Whether you are teaching to an exam or trying to inculcate some background knowledge - checkout the Ownership lesson plans under Lesson plans and see if that helps.
