Really good book
This is a very good book.Gives a wealth of info on each species and while not giving exact locale info it does give you some good ideas on where to look.
Their are some species in my area that I know are endangered but are not listed in the book.I researched to find out why and found out it's because theirs no baseline statistics to measure a decline against.We need a baseline to measure a decline against before they disappear completely.The book is as complete as can be given the incomplete information he had to go on from the NJ Endangered Species program.The scarlet snake,coastal plains milk snake and the eastern spadefoot toad are three that are not included through no fault of the authors of course.All in all a great book and well researched out for the info he had to go from.Would have had to talked to local herpers to find out about the rest of these species.

Not Only the Beautiful Ones
Sure, everybody is concerned about the endangered status of whooping cranes, ocelots, and bald eagles -- and so is Linda Campbell. But her book --Endangered and Threatened Animals of Texas -- deals with many morespecies than those high-profile ones with which the public has alreadybecome familiar. Toads, bats, snakes, even cave-dwelling spiders are everybit as important to the great web of life as are their more celebratedfellow creatures; and Linda Campbell is quick to point this out. Her book,in addition to its beautiful photography and well-researched zoologicaldata, contains workable management plans for the conservation of ALL of theLone Star State's threatened species -- even the less cuddly ones. A very enjoyable read.
I would never describe myself as an environmentalist, but nonetheless I thought this was a very enjoyable read.The various chapters explored animals that I normally take for granted.The best part about this book is that it isn't too text bookey nor preachy.He makes a lot of connections that I never thought about and gave me a clearer understanding of how a lot of things in nature are connected.

The stories he tells about his adventures while learning about the various species are as enjoyable as the text describing the species themselves.You can almost feel the excitement the author felt while getting up close and personal with several animals.A few more pictures would have been nice, but hardly necessary give the authors eloquent desciptions.

I highly recommend this book to anybody that likes a good story or wants to learn more about some pretty cool animals. ... Read more
