Product Description

When South African conservationist Lawrence Anthony was asked to accept a herd of "rogue" wild elephants on his Thula Thula game reserve in Zululand, his common sense told him to refuse. But he was the herd's last chance of survival: they would be killed if he wouldn't take them.

Didn't want it to end!
This fantastic book gives new understanding of elephants in all areas of intelligence and behavior.Was a joy to read.

Elephants that are psychic?
I just loved this book, for all the reasons given by others. Yup I have been up close and personal with wild elephants, even ridden a "tame" African elephant (They are not supposed to be tamable). But what caught MY eye, was the observation that these guys know when Laurence Antony was away from the reserve, and PRECISELY when he would return. Even to the extent they knew he missed a flight in Johannesburg, and returned to the bush to emerge at the right time. Laurence does not claim to be psychic, although he does clearly have some intuitive abilities, but he clearly is unable to explain how this occurs. No doubt he would be fascinated to find Rupert Sheldrake who is a a Fellow of Clare College, Cambridge and a Research Fellow of the Royal Society,and who has recorded the same abilities with our domestic cats and dogs. The ability to know the precise moment you decide to come home, even if it's hours before you arrive. It's yet more evidence that our minds and thoughts are not locked in our heads.

Wow, I alternately found myself in tears and laughing out loud
Any animal lovers who fondly remember "Gorrilas in the Mist", "In the Shadow of Man", "Born Free" etc., should defenitely read this book, as well as "Babylon's Ark" by the same authors.

What a great read!
I was immediately hooked. The book grabbed me and I had trouble putting it down. Each night I'd look forward to picking off a chapter or two. Then near the end I started to worry that it was running out of chapters. When I finished it I immediately got myself his other book, about saving the zoo animals in Iraq (which was equally enjoyable).
I definitely recommend this book.
