5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous & helpful
The Eating Well Diabetes Cookbook has features that make it stand out as one of the very best diabetes cookbooks. First, there is an explanation and simplification of the carbo-counting necessary. The recipes follow these guidelines. Then there are two different levels of menu - 1,500 or 2,000 calorie menus. Also, recipes are marked for high-fiber, quick to prepare, etc.

All these features in addition to fabulous recipes. This is simply a great cookbook - the fact it's compatible with the diabetic diet just makes it better. Every meal I've tried so far has been delicious and tasty. They don't rely so much on "fake food" as they do on fresh taste. If you can only afford one basic Diabetes cookbook, I highly recommend this one above all others. I'm not diabetic but heard the diabetic diet is the most healthy. Now, I agree.

3-0 out of 5 stars Cookbook for the Adventurous Cook
The scrumptious-looking cover belies the contents of this cookbook. There are very FEW recipes I would consider fixing, mainly because they contain ingredients I do not like. I have used "stickies" to mark pages that have some interesting recipes, or that I can alter to my taste. I recommend you check out cookbooks that you can visually peruse before purchasing, at your local bookstore.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Flavor and Easy Recipes
All of the recipes we have tried thus far have been terrific. They are simple and quick and full of flavor.

5-0 out of 5 stars The days when a diagnosis of diabetes condemned to a life of the bland and the unappetizing are long gone.
The days when a diagnosis of diabetes condemned to a life of the bland and the unappetizing are long gone. Compiled from the pages of 'Eating Well' magazine by Joyce Hendley and the publication's editorial staff, "The EatingWell Diabetes Cookbook: Delicious Recipes And Tips For A Healthy-Carbohydrate Lifestyle" fully lives up to the promise of its title by offering a culinary wealth of diabetes-friendly recipes that are as delicious as they are nutritious and dietarily sound. Beginning with the encouraging introduction that 'Eating Well: It's Not Dieting', followed by 'Diabetes 101: The Essential Facts', and 'Food Matters: Eating to Manage Diabetes', "The EatingWell Diabetes Cookbook" presents a compendium of information about calorie counts and menus as well as food and exercise diaries. Then the individual recipes are organized into chapters of 'Healthy Starts', Muffins & Breads, Snacks & Appetizers, Soups, Salads, Vegetarian Main Dishes, Chicken & Turkey, Fish & Seafood, Side Dishes, Sauces & Condiments, Desserts & Treats. The thoroughly 'kitchen cook friendly' recipes range from a Greek Potato & Feta Omelet; to a Spicy Mushroom & Rice Soup; to Grilled Rosemary-Scented Chicken; to Citrusy Couscous Salad with Olives; to a One-Bowl Chocolate Cake! Enhanced with a Glossary, a Resources list, 'Healthy Pantry Essentials', Ingredient Notes, Cooking tips, and an Index, "The EatingWell Diabetes Cookbook" is an ideal addition to personal and community library cookbook collections for diabetics -- and anyone else seeking to prepare and consume nutritionally healthy, appetite satisfying, palate pleasing meals.

5-0 out of 5 stars great book

Tapping into the wisdom and advice of this “dream team” of diabetes professionals, they have put together an integrated plan of attack to fight the disease on every front. Being a diabetic and having a younger husband; this book was very informative for us both.

Thank you.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good resource
Very good resource. My wife is diabetic and I thought the book could help improve our love life. My wife is also a Diatician and Diabetes Educator so a lot of the info was already known. But I would recommend this book as an excellent initial resource diabetics need help with their love life

5-0 out of 5 stars An important acquisition for any health library or general-interest collection.
Most diabetes books only include a chapter on changed sex concerns, but diabetes complicates and strains relationships, posing new issues and problems. This book addresses all the issues, providing tips ranging from how to talk to a doctor about sexual complications of diabetes and drug treatments to control it to common physical and emotional complications for both men and women. From how losing weight and exercising affects sexuality to using music, movies, and even romantic foods to set new paths for intimacy, SEX AND DIABETES is an important acquisition for any health library or general-interest collection.

At Last, Homestyle Cooking for People with Diabetes
Dear Friends,
As a diagnosed diabetic, I have struggled the past several years to adapt to a new way of eating. I love food—sweets, old favorites, comfort foods. When I wrote my bestselling Fat Free & Ultra Lowfat Recipes I had just lost 100 pounds and needed to find a way to eat that I could live with, day in and day out. I wanted all the foods I grew up with, the ones my mom cooked.
I wrote Real Food for People with Diabetes out of personal need. Those recipes and the wonderful additions in this revised edition help me maintain a safe, healthful diet as a diabetic and continue to eat the meals I love. They can help keep you—and your family—healthy and happy, too.
My very best to you,
Doris
A diagnosis of diabetes doesn't have to be a life sentence to tasteless food. You can limit the sugar and fat in your diet without skimping on flavor. Inside, more than 175 easy and delicious dishes—many of them healthful, lowfat versions of old favorites—will show you how. They include:

3-0 out of 5 stars Quick, Easy Recipes
A pretty good resource for making semi-healthy, low-sugar "every day" dishes. I say semi-healthy because the author uses artificial sweeteners, butter-substitutes, processed and canned ingredients, and there are also recipes that contain pork and shellfish (neither of which my family eats), all of which I do not find are very healthful foods/ingredients. Definitely NOT a cookbook for gourmet dishes to entertain guests or for special occasion dishes, but does contain quick, simple, convenient "every day" dishes with minimal ingredients that are easy to find. The dishes taste mediocre at best with less than a handful being what I would call fairly good, and some in appearance honestly look like regurgitated food (like the Homestyle Skillet Stew with ground turkey and the Potluck Casserole, which uses canned Franco-American Spaghetti and cream of mushroom soup!). On the positive side, I have to say that I DID lose weight when I first started using this book for meals several years ago. Fairly good recipes are Chicken Enchiladas with Sour Cream Sauce and Chicken Paprikosh. If you like great-tasting and appearing food, this is not the book for you. But if you don't mind skimping on flavor and presentation a little bit for convenience, simplicity, and low-cost ingredients, then try this book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Love Doris's books but these were not great.....
I love Doris's books, really I do! That's why I was so disappointed to get this book and find most of the recipes are mediocre, at best. There isn't anything in this book that tastes like real, good, Mexican cooking. You can find better in many other books. I just cringe having to say this when I'm such a fan of Doris's other books, but her Mexican book and her Italian book just...rather suck. I've had so much better in other books. Save your money and maybe check this one out of the library to try a few recipes first, and see if I'm wrong. If you agree with me, then you aren't out any money. Sorry....this one just flat misses the boat on flavor and excitement. Bleh.

4-0 out of 5 stars Diabetic Friendly Cook Book ......Yummy!
I was very impressed with this cook book. Lots of food choices and they really are REAL foods that taste good. I would highly recommed this cook book for anyone trying to control their diet....what ever the reason. Lots of helpful tips....breaks down calories etc. Very good!

5-0 out of 5 stars EXTREMELY WELL RECEIVED
Got this for my Dad after a new diabetes diagnosis and he has literally devoured the information and recipes in here. It gave him hope he could eat food that tasted good and still met his cravings and needs. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

5-0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC!!
I just received this book and have already tried 10 of the recipes..all were wonderful!Having recently been diagnosed with diabetes, I was looking for recipes that not only I would like but those that would also please my "steak and potatoes please" husband. This was the book! All those yummy comfort foods you thought you'd have to give up are here and now healthy! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Practical advice:witty, wise, compassionate
This guide to emotional health focuses on families learning to cope with diabetes--but it is far more than that. The practical advice, tools for learning new coping skills, and stories about real people's struggles to adapt to their disease is inspiring for everyone dealing with the stress of illness.Dr. Rapaport synthesizes psychological strategies from her decades of research and practice to provide clear, straightforward, common-sense advice for the entire family to use everyday.Best of all, her style is breezy, often funny, and full of compassion and insight. She knows not only because she has academic credentials but because she has been there hereself.

1-0 out of 5 stars Common sense
Rapaport spends a few hundred pages telling us things that we already know. When somebody is going through a difficult time they will be emotional and will need the support of those who are important to them. This support will take many forms in different circumstances.There.I just saved you the knowledge you'll glean from reading the entire work.Perhaps a specific situation could be discussed with the author and she would be able to provide helpful pointers. However, for a general text it seems to boil down to nothing more than common sense.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book hit home with me!!
I normally turn my nose up at these psycho-babble type books that pretendto know what it is that I'm going through as a person with diabetes forover 20years.I was pleasantly surprised to find that this book wasreal.Dr. Rapaport hits a lot of familiar chords, and knows her subjectinside and out.She is not patronizing, and her style is clear and easy tofollow.I found that I was able to apply her method of positive reframingnot only to my diabetes related situations, but to my every day lifesituations as well.I strongly recommend this book for anyone living withdiabetes, for the patient herself, or family, friends and significantothers.I hope to see more of Dr. Rapaport's writing in the future. Thanks to her for giving me an improved way to deal.

4-0 out of 5 stars comprehensive covers all kinds of families
This book is for anyone who lives with, is related to, is a friend of or knows someone with diabetes as well as for the person with diabetes. Some may think this book is for a nuclear family with one person who has diabetes but, the author covers many different realtionships like older grandparents and how their children or even grandchildren can relate to them. The book contains cited resources for further reading and many personal vignettes from the author's professional and personl experiences. Dr. Rapaport goes beyond describing the usual exercise, diet and medication management aspects of living with and coping with diabetes. She includes instruction in stress reduction, relaxation techniques, practical examples in assertive communication and other perspectives about living with diabetes. Attitiude and how it impacts on diabetes care and relationships is explored at length. For example, if one views diabetes as a psychosocial and spiritual condition with the medica! l complications the focus of treatment is on the lifestyle and relationships in the person with diabetes life. ...
