4-0 out of 5 stars extremely high quality images!
many images, minimal text.from a dermatology resident's perspective, useful to leaf through before the boards, but probably not worth investing in for your library.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good pictures and examples
This is a beautiful textbook full with colored photographs. There is unfortunately no text to explain what the underlying illness in each case is but just the name. So it is like you scan the book to see which picture resembles most in each case get the name and go to another source to find the etiology. I wish there was a little hint in each picture to give some idea.
It is a good book for one to familiarize other possibilities and not rush into quick conclusions.

5-0 out of 5 stars Color Atlas of Dermatology
Contains excellent color photographs of common and not so common skin conditions encountered in primary care. An essential reference for the emergency department and the office. Well organized into sections and sub-sections. Patients appreciate seeing their rashes in the book and knowing that others have had the same malady. ... Read more

Product Description
Ranging from the Egypt of the Pharaohs to the present day, Historical Atlas of Dermatology and Dermatologists offers a unique insight into the history of dermatology and the influences that led to present practice. It sheds new light on the emergence of dermatology as a separate medical speciality and on some of the key players who have contributed to its development. Arranged as an illustrated time-line this volume features an exceptional range of historical plates such as 'Molluscum contagiosum', from Thomas Bateman's Delineations of Cutaneous Diseases, 1817, an 1869 painting of ichthyosis hystrix by Carl Heitzmann, and early experiments in ultraviolet therapy by Finsen and colleagues in 1903. The authors have selected individuals representative of each era, workers who dealt seriously with the dermatologic concerns of the day, or who through their opinions or behavior project the color and ambience of the period in which they lived. They have included typical examples of the books, journals, instruments, and devices that made up the annals and paraphernalia of the speciality as it evolved. In order to know where you are going, you have to know where you've been. The field of dermatology has been fragmented in the last 30 years. It is becoming increasingly difficult to answer the simple questions: What is dermatology and what is a dermatologist? Research dermatology, dermato-histopathology, pediatric dermatology, and the explosion of surgical techniques have all made their mark on how dermatology is practiced. Historical Atlas of Dermatology and Dermatologists explores the development of this field and where it may be going in the future. ... Read more

Product Description
This concise yet comprehensive textbook, which is illustrated in full color throughout, has established itself as a favorite not only with undergraduate medical students, but also with nurses and pharmacists in practice and training, and with general practitioners and other physicians seeking a clear and well-illustrated guide to dermatology.

In response to changes in the approach to medical eduction, this fourth edition is designed as a problem solving book. Every chapter begins with a number of clinical cases which the reader is asked to read prior to studying the chapter. Suggested management plans are supplied at the end of the chapter. In addition to these problem-solving exercises, project work is included for each chapter, which can be carried out using either an on-line database or medical library. Many of the full color illustrations to be found throughout the text are new to the Fourth Edition, and the page size has been enlarged and the design updated to make the book easier and more appealing to use. 5-0 out of 5 stars Dr.Azeem Alam Khan
I am Dr.Azeem Alam Khan, a consultant dermatologist from Pakistan.I have recently done my M.Sc in Clinical Dermatology from St.John's Institiute of Dermatology London.During my one year stay there I found that book veryuseful. It has got simple illustrations and pictures are clear.I shall begrateful if somebody could donate this book for our hospital library.

5-0 out of 5 stars Student's Most Beautyful Primer For The Field
This is a concise book (300 text-pages). So, logically, an amount of specialty-descriptions and therapeutic "one-in-ten-thousand-cases" one would find in a typical standard-textbook are omitted here. Yet, all relevant entities of Dermatology are covered and presented in detail when needed. 200 or so full-color-pictures display each condition in a manner that aims at immediate understanding, with a tendency towards the more macroscopic aspects. Besides, this book even has got a didactic concept: Each chapter is forewarded by a summary of the entities to follow and by up to five or so well-knit stories of unsolved cases all of which made us courious to know more. Great plus: You don't have to think of rehearsing, Clin. Derm. just takes You there. And an aesthetic concept: Quite intelligent use of types, colors from blue to green, and a gifted person's coverpainting...if that should matter. Readability: The book starts off with the relavant and typical conditions and there is no superfluous information, so there is no need for a priority list. The text progresses well, non-redundancy and TV-like "consumability" are its srength. You will remermber All You read and maybe even understand it... So just go from cover to cover, within two or three days You are easily there - see You. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Too Old and Too Expensive
This was a great book in its day. Unfortunately, Dr. Hurwitz has passed away since this edition was published, so who knows if it will be updated. I hate to give it only two stars, but in 2001 this early 90s book is too old an too expensive.

Bernard Cohen's Pediatric Dermatology is easier to read/use and is mor current (1999) and has better pictures. I strongly recommend it over this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars comprehensive
Even if this book by now is quite old it's probably the best textbook on pediatric dermatology available. The first edition was extremely useful and this second one is even better. It's very comprehensive and there is practically nothing in the field you won't find. This is true even for diseases you miss in texbooks about infections, likeperianal streptococcal cellulitis. The register is good, the pictures are very good and it's just the references which by now are outdated. Let's hope the author will write a third edition soon.

5-0 out of 5 stars A fast and good access to pediatric dermatology
It is a good book to dermatologist interesting in this topic, because we access a large information about pathology of children. It's a important reference.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Landmark Clinical Reference --A Classic in its Field!

This is just one of many books that I need to work at home!Certainly has helped out.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dermatology/Immunology reference superstar.
Stedman's Dermatology and Immunology Words is once again in the Stedman category of excellent medical reference books. This extremely handy book, ideal for the medical transcriptionist who deals with dermatology, allergy, rheumatology, and infectious diseases, including those in the HIV-relatedarea, will not go wrong with this volume. In addition to theaforementioned specialty categories, it also includes diagnosticprocedures, lab tests, equipment/instruments and even prosthesis terms inthe involved specialties. It is fully cross-referenced which is extremelyhandy when you know the dictator is saying, for example, some kind of"acne", but cannot clearly hear or are not totally acquaintedwith his/her statement such as "varioliformis acne" as oneexample.Additionally, there are several indexes that include appropriateanatomical illustrated guides, a list of commonly used word combinationforms [viz, "chondro = cartilage, etc.], and, very handy, an extensivelist of common allergens.

The editor claims this book has 41,000 entrieswhich also include abbreviations and acronyms. The medicaltranscriptionist, who especially deals with dermatology/allergy, cannot gowrong with this reference book.As a medical transcriptionist, I rate ittops. ... Read more

Product Description
Many physicians and patients do not believe that dermatology involves life-threatening situations. However, there are many emergencies that the dermatologist needs to address and many cutaneous diseases in the emergency room that require rapid dermatologic consultation. The dermatologist is frequently the first physician to examine these patients before a hospital admission, and also the first to identify a critical situation, stabilize the patient, and chose urgent and appropriate intervention. The first chapters of this book are directed toward those dermatologists who care for hospitalized patients with severe and dangerous skin diseases. Later chapters are intended for all physicians, including dermatologists, who wish to hone their diagnostic skills, expand their knowledge and understanding of pathological events, and learn treatment options available for acute life-threatening skin diseases.
