1-0 out of 5 stars Not a good test prep
I have bought other Princeton AP review books in the past and liked them, so I immediately chose this one when looking for a book. Wrong decision. I find my textbook to be a much better help that is much more organized and thorough. I did not find any redeeming qualities in this book and have stopped using it. The practice tests are way too easy and not at all representative of the AP exam. Basically it was a waste of money.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Fair Prep Book
The book is very organized. There is an adequate amount of content to get you a 5.However, both the practice multiple choice and free response don't resemble the actual test. The multiple choice part is a little bit irrelevant. The free response part is too easy.

2-0 out of 5 stars Most disappointing
I've been using Princeton's prep book for my AP European History, Calculus, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics; SAT and ACT. Because I trusted Princeton Review, I immediately chose this book as a preparation for my AP Statistics Test(which will be tomorrow.. gosh. I should be studying right now, not writing a review.) Sample Free Response Questions are just awful. Moreover, answers are awful too. Sample FR questions show almost no relevent to the test and the answer explanations are way too confusing that I don't even know what they are talking about.

I trusted them, and I will. But I am disapppointed on this one. I would prefer my text over this one (which was opposite for other subjects) ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Too through
All topics are covered to the extend that by the time I got through I already forgot what I was studying, but that can be a good thing for certain people. There are many informations that are downplayed on the exams. The practice multiple choice is a little easier that actual exam. The practice free response is too simple and narrowed.

3-0 out of 5 stars its ok
I pretty much only did the practice tests. those were good, but I cannot comment on the actual text. I did not experience the "learning process" from the book. The questions were a little different then the type on the test, but I got a 5 so maybe it helped!

1-0 out of 5 stars very regretful to buy this book...
i took a statistics course last year. since my teacher was the first oneever to take on a statistics class in my school, fearing that her knowledgemay be outstandingly insufficient, she recommended that we, the students, buy this book for self-guide. so i did. and now, what do i think? VERYREGRETFUL! i think i wasted my money on it. typical of a book from REA, -no offense to the company, by the way - this book contains a lot ofmisinformation, typos, lacking contents, etc... even after the revision!if you are seeking a stat book to use as a seld-study guide, i stronglyrecommend that YOU OVERLOOK THIS BOOK, as long as you are not competentthat you will be able to handle this curriculum w/ no difficulty at all.well, i guess in that case you wouldn't need to buy ANY book.. but anyway,i really really think you're making a mistake by choosing this book. JUSTIN CASE YOU'RE EAGER TO BUY IT OR IN AN INEVITABLE POSITION TO BUY IT, ihope you make sure there is someone who can and will help you fully withthis subject... that person might help you use this book... if that's evena good idea.

Product Description
"Will the Sun Rise Tomorrow?" is a memoir of Heidi Fang's childhood in China - a childhood that felt every bit normal to her as a child. She was born in Beijing in 1965, the year before the Cultural Revolution. She spent her early childhood with her doting grandmother in the countryside in Jiangsu province. In spite of material deprivation, her early childhood was filled with freedom, joy and a care-free spirit. By the time she reached school age, Heidi Fang returned to Beijing to live with her parents. Her education in the elementary school was mostly on the teachings of Mao Zedong, leader of China at the time. Little attention was given to academic studies since she was expected to be "sent down" to remote countryside for manual labor after high school, as all city youths were during the Cultural Revolution. Heidi Fang's life drastically changed following the end of the Cultural Revolution. All of a sudden what she needed to prepare for was college instead of manual labor. Her middle and high school years were under an intense pressure to study and to excel in the all-important College Entrance Exam. Even with an unthinkable mistake in the omnipotent exam, Heidi Fang was admitted to one of the top colleges in China. The book contains the author's personal experiences, and stories of her family which were told to her while she was growing up. The events in the book are portrayed entirely from the view of Heidi Fang as a child and teenager, without judgment or hindsight. The title of the book came from her belief as a child that the sun would not rise without Chairman Mao, who was always compared to the sun in all forms of propaganda. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Fresh, Child's Eye View
This book is a wonderful gift from a parent to her young American daughters to let them know what her childhood in Mao's China was like. The author's stories are simple, clear and detailed. She has no agenda, political or otherwise, other than to let her daughters know about a childhood so very different from theirs. The details of relationships, family ties, food (or lack thereof), trips to the outdoor privy at boarding school are described without self-pity by one who, in the main, enjoyed her childhood. It is a refreshing view of a world many of us know little about. It is an easy, quick read that left me wanting a sequel immediately. How does she get from college in China to Yale, marry, and then settle in California? I'm hoping to see a second volume soon!

5-0 out of 5 stars fresh voice in new genre

Wonderfully fresh voice in the genre of Chinese memoirs. Not a hidden apology for Mao's revolution; or a bitter critique of the Cultural Revolution. Rather, a timeless autobiographical portrait of a resilient little girl coming-of-age when "things fall apart; the centre cannot hold."
Even more compelling because we are `reading over the shoulder' of the one person it was written to. Heidi Fang writes to introduce herself to her own daughter; to bridge a gap. How could her daughter even imagine that her now staid and accomplished professional mom was once a free-spirited, barefoot urchin who got into trouble at school (when she could attend), often went hungry, and managed to survive remarkably unscathed some of the most turbulent years in modern Chinese history?
Heidi Fang (her nom de plume) writes with a spare, unembellished candor; a stripped-down directness that must pass the scrutiny of any writer's harshest critic: her own adolescent daughter. The tone is child-to-child--dialogue, graphic details, emotions, dreams and disappointments come through the eyes and mouth not of the adult looking back, but of the child then and there. This rare ability to recapture the voice and heart of a child's-seeing is for me the most salient feature of this memoir.
(Note: the book must have also gotten something of a `thumbs-up' from her targeted audience. Her daughter, after reading it, was inspired to illustrate the ms with her own hand-sketched artwork. The simple black-and-white images, like the book itself evoke, as only children everywhere can, that disarming innocence in the human spirit before all the `isms, creeds, and lessons spoil it.)
In this sense, Will the Sun Rise Tomorrow? is a priceless account not of one person's early memories about growing up Mao's China, but a universal story about growing up itself--the realm of childhood, a world unto its own, ever and in all places. Through the author's vivid and unvarnished retelling of her formative years, we are inexorably led back to revisit our own. One is reminded of a line from e. e. cummings

children guessed(but only a few
and down they forgot as up they grew

This author is one of the "few" who did not down-forget. A truly delightful read. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good practice, but...
Bought this for an exchange student living with us. She had great English skills and was hoping to get a 900 on the TOEIC. She went thru the practice exams several times feeling pretty confident.

On test day, she was a little surprised to see the written part of the test (letters, documents, etc) were in several different fonts. She had not prepared for this (this revision of the test guide did not include multiple fonts). She found that to be a little unnerving and difficult to read, which was reflected in her test scores.

Overall a good resource, but make sure you get the absolute latest revision to avoid surprises. ... Read more
