Product Description
Webster's bibliographic and event-based timelines are comprehensive in scope, covering virtually all topics, geographic locations and people. They do so from a linguistic point of view, and in the case of this book, the focus is on "Chiropractic," including when used in literature (e.g. all authors that might have Chiropractic in their name). As such, this book represents the largest compilation of timeline events associated with Chiropractic when it is used in proper noun form. Webster's timelines cover bibliographic citations, patented inventions, as well as non-conventional and alternative meanings which capture ambiguities in usage. These furthermore cover all parts of speech (possessive, institutional usage, geographic usage) and contexts, including pop culture, the arts, social sciences (linguistics, history, geography, economics, sociology, political science), business, computer science, literature, law, medicine, psychology, mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology and other physical sciences. This "data dump" results in a comprehensive set of entries for a bibliographic and/or event-based timeline on the proper name Chiropractic, since editorial decisions to include or exclude events is purely a linguistic process. The resulting entries are used under license or with permission, used under "fair use" conditions, used in agreement with the original authors, or are in the public domain. ... Read more

Product Description
Chiropractic, and more specifically straight chiropractic, a separate philosophical segment within the chiropractic profession, embraces and works with the natural healing capabilities of human physiology. Because this profession has been able to think outside of the box and has ignored, to a large extent, the no stress zone it has achieved phenomenal results with a countless number of patients over the years. The information that I am about to reveal to you in this book does not come with all of the usual customary documentation. The information cannot always be found in traditional professional journals, but instead has been uncovered innocently by my own experiences over time. Much of the information which I have written about in this book is a product of my own personal opinions compiled from my dealings with patients in a private office setting. I am not a voice which represents the official opinion of any chiropractic college or any other alternative healthcare institution. I am not writing this material as a spokesperson for chiropractic or for other chiropractors. Although I am sure that many alternative healthcare providers, including chiropractors, may feel similarly, this project represents only my own theoretical conclusions constructed from my own practice experience. -- Dr. John Reizer ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Not very helpful
Let me start off by saying that I think that many Chiropractors are competent and qualified musculoskeletal specialists that are able to use techniques to help many people. But after saying that...

The title of this book should be "STRAIGHT Chiropractic Made Simple, and Some General Ranting".The author attended the Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic, so its only obvious he would be a straight chiropractor (those who don't know the difference between styles of chiropractic can check them out on wikipedia).

While this book had the potential to be a straight's discription of his trade and the theories behind it, very little of those pages are actually devoted to it.There is some mention of sublaxation and some info about how adjustment works and so forth. There is even a nifty part about how to go about choosing a chiropractor including a handy form to fill out information about your DC to help you pick one.Unfortunately that's where the usefullness ends.

The majority of this book focuses on the author's war with the AMA.While I believe that there is some truth to the claims that the AMA has been trying to subdue chiropractic to an extent, the author continually makes claims that allopaths (MDs) are conspiring to keep the world sick so they can continually profit from disease.(the author -apparently for maximum irony- also then describes how you should get a spinal adjustment regularly for the rest of your life and that you're being selfish if you think its too expensive.

He rants against vaccinating your children, and comments that being unable to move your fingers from arthritis is actually good for you.He condemns any chiropractors who want to work alongside medical physicians saying that they're helping the AMA destroy all that is sacred in Chiropractic.

While I was really hoping I would have some good things to say about this book, I cannot. The majority of it is written in a style that is subpar for someone with a doctorate. And the book goes from being what I thought would be an introduction to his trade, and descends into a tirade of fanciful claims about those who have wronged him and his trade (both real and imaginary). It is frankly no wonder this book was self-published.

Again, I like Chiropractors, just not this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Chiropractic Made Simple: Working With the Controlling Laws of Nature
Like a fresh breeze of truth blowing away the fog of the "medical experts".

1-0 out of 5 stars Book Of Crap
Anyone who feels the need to tear down a profession in an effort to elevate their own's has a problem. This book does not highlight the good things about chiropractic; it only downgrades allopathic medicine.I read this book in an effort to understand more about chiropractic and what I received was one man's rant on a subject that he knows very little about.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Standard For The Chiropractic Profession
Dr. Reizer's book, "Chiropractic Made Simple" tells it like it is. The author doesn't dance around the many sensitive issues which surround the chiropractic profession. He dives right into the controversial items and gives laypersons an opportunity to learn the truth about chiropractic philosophy. Very few authors have the courage to write about many of the topics covered in this text. Some will be shocked when they read this book while others will be "turned off" by the author's claims that allopathic medicine has conspired through the years to eliminate chiropractic from the healthcare market.

This is an excellent book written by a doctor who has a vision of a very different picture when it comes to healthcare for people in the world. "Chiropractic Made Simple" encourages its readers to perform their own research projects about health related topics. It also encourages people not to rely exclusively on traditional news sources for information about their own health.

In addition, this book serves as an exceptional introduction to subluxation-centered chiropractic for both prospective chiropractic students and patients. Many of the philosophical components which are often difficult for new students and patients to grasp are simplified throughout the book. The author obviously has an extensive background in chiropractic philosophy and his unique writing style permits the novice to be able to gain valuable insight about these important concepts.

I recommend this book to any person who would like to learn about the true benefits of being under chiropractic care.

5-0 out of 5 stars Chiropractic Is Simple !
Recently I became a patient at a chiropractor's office and upon the conclusion of my first visit the doctor handed me a book entitled, "Chiropractic Made Simple." Later that same day when I returned home I began and eventuallyfinished reading the entire book. I was surprised how simple and logical the chiropractic approach to healthcare was.

I immediately decided to let my sister read this book in the hope that she would consider getting her family under chiropractic care. This book has been written clearly and is easy for the average person to understand. I hope others have the chance to read this book as well. Chiropractic really is simple! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very interesting book on chiropractic history!
This is a wonderful book on how chiropractic came to be and how it evolved into the profession it is today.Chiropractic helps millions of people world-wide without the use of drugs or surgery.I also reviewed parts of this book for the chiropractic Part 2 national boards--Principles of Chiropractic section. It helped me a lot along with Dr. Leonardi's:
National Board of Chiropractic Part II Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers. These two books were great for helping me prepare for the boards. Dennis Petterson's book is what a chiropractor should have in their office library. It's always good to know history to prevent us from making the same mistakes of the past.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous book: a must have for your reception room!
This is not a book I would have bought for myself so I was glad when a colleague gave it to me for my birthday. It is a fabulous book covering just about everything possible in the Chiropractic profession.Reading about the Anti-trust suit and all the other political struggles has truly re-enforced my deep love and respect for this great profession.

There are so many other natural cures that lost the political battle against the med/drug cartel i.e. Rife, Tesla just to name two.I think one of the reasons the profession survived is because we had a lot of Chiropractors who were good politicians along with a passion for healing that is surpassed by no other healing profession that I know. They also were able to humble themselves within the medical community in order to win the many political battles fought in all 50 states plus two (?) U.S. territories.

I am so proud to call myself a Chiropractor and will have undying respect for all those who came before me so that thousands of people are able to access the healing power of the spinal adjustment.A treatment that clearly relieves back pain but also affects the general health so people require fewer of the cut, burn and poison treatments.

You must read this book and then put it in your reception room so your patients can appreciate the magnitude of the privilege they have when they come into your office for their treatments.

P.S.A note to the authors:you left out the great state of Massachusetts in the chart that shows the year each state won their licensing struggle. It was 1966!!!Thank you Dr. Macdonald and all the other pioneers in this state who made this possible. It was truly a miracle. ... Read more

Our nervous system is the communication channel between our brain and it's end organs, (stomach, lungs, kidneys, etc) if the nerves are not able to get proper signal back and forth, what would any reasonable, thinking, non-biased, person expect to have happen to the body? It's really, just common sense. The book is very helpful in illustrating how the process occurs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Definitely A Must-Read
I also am a chiropractor and I have to disagree with the other chiropractor's opinion.I have personally witnessed and hear about chiropractic miracles every day. These are related to conditions other than pain syndromes and musculoskeletal problems.Patients who experience a multitude of visceral problems and symptoms somehow see a reduction in/elimination of these problems and symptoms. So the question is why/how does this happen? This book helps us to answer some of these questions. There are many other sources to check regarding this, including numerous research articles.Check for yourself, the research is out there and accessible. As a society, we are becoming more and more unhealthy, even though we are living longer due to modern technology. The bottom line is, there are many questions that continue to need to be answered, but let's not close the door and our minds to the possibilities that already exist and that will continue to become less of a secret and become more well known and accepted.

5-0 out of 5 stars A major contribution

2-0 out of 5 stars Unimpressed so far
I am a physician, after having first been a researcher and a psychophysiologist.I looked forward to exploring more modern concepts of accupuncture and some serious scientific inquiry into how it works or doesn't work. This however is outdated (1992) and the author has quite an oversized ego evident from the beginning and persisting at least through the the first 3 chapters. His ego trip is becoming a barrier to maintaining an open mind.I am losing interest.Even from his own account of the conflict, he is starting to make me wonder if those who disagree with him might be right.

I do appreciate his honesty in stating what he hasn't tried. However, from there I am frustrated.

For someone who claims to have the inside track on research, he provides little or no evidentiary details for his assertions. He mostly tries to represent himself as the wise debunker of all the unnecessary traditional beliefs in points, meridians and methods for enhancing further stimulation of needling. So we apparently don't need to bother with accurate point location, electrical stimulation, moxibustion, etc.

Admittedly dropping these traditions could be a lot more convenient.Instead he prefers to keep it simple by inserting deeper, twisting and finding the threshold for no gain unless there's pain.

As a person training to perform acupuncture and as the prior recipient of many sessions of it by different practitioners-- I am getting a bit skeptical about applying his ideas without solid data.I'd actually prefer my acupuncturist has at least some investment in choosing locations wisely and avoiding unnecessary pain when possible.I may be wrong here, but it seems logical that bones are buried deeply beneath a lot of tissue because they might prefer to minimize most external contacts, particularly those which are pointed or frankly sharp.

So...I don't know yet.I may have to wait until further in my training experience to optimally assess his book. There is a chance he may be right.Nonetheless, he has not provided sufficient evidence-based material.Instead I found mostly indidvidual case comments not sufficienty developed to actually "call" them much less publish them as case studies, tightly packed with lots more of his strongly held opinions rather than data.

Just like the traditional schools which he no longer wants to take on faith or authority...he asks that I, the reader, take his word based on authority -- presumably because he is the author of other textbooks and devised an international nomenclature for points (which indicidentally he no longer believes in and has been subsequently revised by the World Health Organization by people he apparently regards as downright foolish.)

Bottomline:I haven't read anything in his book so far that qualfies as evidence-based, except evidence for too many requests to take his word for it.Like the "Chinese Masters" he now challenges, as more years pass between his stature as THE classic textbook author and THE early definer of one nomenclature system he now discredits, his writing will hold less credibility for many of us if the ratio of opinion to solid data continues to be this high.

He could do better, obviously ... if he is indeed this passionate about debunking the old myths and in persuading new generations of medical acupunturists to sell their patients on enduring deeper pain, to-the-bone pain, in order to relieve their pain. ... Read more

Dr. Perri demonstrates how to monitor vasomotor mirror activity during viscerosomatic corrections, and discusses DeJarnette's CMRT profiles in the context of the Conjugate Gaze Adjustive Technique. 5-0 out of 5 stars very helpful
I do orthopedic reports daily and this is very helpful to me.I would recommend it to transcriptionists.

5-0 out of 5 stars Words, not definitions
The use of the Stedman's word books, this being only one of many, is primarily for those in medical transcription and others (medical authors, editors, proofreaders, etc.) who need an authoritative source on correct spelling and terminology. This is the stated intent of these books, as is clearly spelled out in the foreword of all Stedman's books. This seems important for me to mention here, as at least one reviewer of this book seemed disappointed that there isn't more information.

As a transcriptionist, I assure you that the several hundred pages of cross-referenced terms here are very, very useful in correct transcription of medical dictation. This section includes musculoskeletal terms and rehab terms, which are exactly its stated contents. As usual, Stedman's succeeds beautifully in providing an exhaustive collection of terms relating to the areas of interest presented in this book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Index was helpful...
The book itself is only a listing of words that you
may encounter in the field, not really any definition or
reference to other places that would help more. But the index is worth its part. Some good references to injuries that you
may see in the rehab field.

Product Description
Chiropractic Peace marks the beginning ofthe end for infighting between mixers (broad-scope) and straights (focused-scope). Thethree refreshing essays by Drs. Reed Phillips, Ashley Cleveland, and Gerry Clumintroduce chiropractic leaders, students, faculty and practitioners to a new, lesscontentious, dialogue on the political, sociological, philosophical and historicalissues of our profession. After years of polemical argumentation, reading ChiropracticPeace is like getting a new pair of glasses or a much-needed spinal adjustment.Uplifting relief! Instead of seeking peace by trying to hammer out compromises, whichmany do not find successful in the end, the three writers utilize the concept ofpluralism to construct a “big tent” which will accommodate allethical chiropractors who adhere to basic chiropractic principles.

The three contributors bring a much-needed respectful tone to thediscourse. And in an important turn for the profession, each writer acknowledges thatall of the camps—focused-scope, middle-scope, and broad-scope—arecommitted to ethical and skillful practice. ... Read more
