Product Description

Basic Methods for the Biochemical Lab elucidates proven lab procedures and practical hints for research in analytical and preparative biochemistry, as well as summarizing key data in numerous tables. To further emphasize the practical aspects and to minimize the text, theoretical introductions into the methods are mostly omitted.

The chapters cover: quantitative methods (proteins, nucleic acids, phospholipids and carbohydrates), electrophoresis (several polyacrylamide and agarose systems, 2D-PAGE, detection methods and affinity electrophoresis), chromatographic protocols (thin-layer chromatography, GPC, IEC, affinity chromatography, HPLC), immunochemical protocols (hapten-carrier and enzyme conjugation, immunization and antibody purification, immune affinity chromatography, ELISA), centrifugation (differential and density gradient centrifugation for cells and cellular fractions), radioactivity (labeling and counting), buffers (buffer properties and compositions).

In additional chapters, tables compile a broad array of useful information, e.g. SI units conversion factor, detergent, protein and nucleotide data, and the basic principles of statistics and enzyme and receptor kinetics are reviewed.

This first English-language edition of a successful German-language manual will be a valuable resource for students and experts in biochemistry, biotechnology and biomedical laboratories.

5-0 out of 5 stars Same Book as School Bookstore only A LOT CHEAPER!!
Highly recommend shopping here for your college textbooks.These are identical to the ones sold in the college bookstores, only SO MUCH CHEAPER.I saved over $300 from my college bookstore and ended up with more new books.

4-0 out of 5 stars Chemistry textbook
The item was in okay condition and the seller had good communication and was helpful.

1-0 out of 5 stars No interaction --> disappointment
The only good thing about this transaction was it was received in a timely fashion. I should've known something was wrong when the seller never answered my email. I was desperate for a biochem class, so I took a chance. Apparently the seller's definition of "a couple" means 13! There were 13 labs missing from the book. I wound up having to buy a brand new book anyway because the library didn't keep lab books on file. So sad, what a waste. Laboratory Manual for General, Organic, and Biological Chemistry

5-0 out of 5 stars Thank you
It was a very good deal. The book was new and arrived sooner than expected.

1-0 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware!
Ordered this lab manual and it arrived shrink wrapped and appeared to be new but it was missing pertinent pages when I opened it (the lab reports for all the labs to be done in class). So, be very, very careful ordering in this fashion. Lab manuals should come with guarantees that their pages are not missing! Because of this I ended up having to pay once again for it from my school bookstore. Waste of money. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Like the other reviewer said....
I'm surprised that this is offered on Amazon as well. Co-written by Maria Ripol (who is also the instructor) - it is the workbook that corresponds to her STA 2023 class at the University of Florida. Includes her lectures and worksheets for the lab. Lab will not accept hand-written worksheets so you must buy this workbook to participate in STA 2023 lab.

5-0 out of 5 stars Surprised they had it!
I bought this product for a stats class I'm taking at UF. This workbook is only used at UF and has the lectures the instructor goes over. I am amazed they had this, and not only that but the prics was low. ... Read more

Product Description
A time-tested, systematic approach to the buying and selling of complex research instruments

Searching for the best laboratory instruments and systems can be a daunting and expensive task. A poorly selected instrument can dramatically affect results produced and indirectly affect research papers, the quality of student training, and an investigator's chances for advancement. Buying and Selling Laboratory Instruments offers the valuable insights of an analytical chemist and consultant with over four decades of experience in locating instruments based upon both need and price. It helps all decision makers find the best equipment, service, and support while avoiding the brand-loyalty bias of sales representatives so you can fully meet your laboratory's requirements.

The first section of the book guides buyers through the hurdles of funding, purchasing, and acquiring best-fit instruments at the least-expensive price. It explains how to find vendors that support their customers with both knowledgeable service and application support. Also offered is guidance on adapting your existing instruments to new applications, integrating new equipment, and what to do with instruments that can no longer serve in research mode.

The second section explains the sales process in detail. This is provided both as a warning against manipulative sales reps and as a guide to making the sale a win-win process for you and your vendor. It also shows you how to select a knowledgeable technical guru to help determine the exact system configuration you need and where to find the best price for it. Added bonuses are summary figures of buying sequence and sales tools and an appendix containing frequently asked questions and memory aids.

Buying and Selling Laboratory Instruments is for people directly involved in selecting and buying instruments for operational laboratories, from the principle investigator to the person actually delegated with investigating and selecting the system to be acquired. Sales representatives; laboratory managers; universities; pharmaceutical, biotech, and forensic research firms; corporate laboratories; graduate and postdoctoral students; and principle investigators will not want to be without this indispensible guide. ... Product Description
This laboratory manual is designed to be used with the text, Physical Science: What the Technology Professional Needs to Know. Developed for the aspiring technology professional with little or no background in the study of physics or chemistry, it provides the experience necessary for students to develop skills in experimentation and data interpretation.
Like all of the books in the critically acclaimed Preserving the Legacy series, this manual is easy to understand and use, with clear instructions and a discovery approach. The book contains 26 experiments that have been carefully selected to illustrate major physics and chemistry concepts. They require simple, inexpensive equipment and are designed to be completed within three hours.
Each experiment starts with a review of the background concepts, information, and formulas necessary to carry out the experiment. Three or four investigations are then presented, each with its own objectives, procedures, and interpretation. Next, students are asked to demonstrate their understanding by bringing together selected data and conclusions in the preparation of a "Report Sheet." In a final section, students are given the opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of the concepts by applying them to a new situation.
Topics addressed in the experiments include:
* Measurements
* Matter and energy
* Acids and bases
* Motion
* Electricity
* Optics
* Nuclear processes
* Chemical reactions ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Photographic Atlas
I am currently in a biodiversity course that recommends this atlas for lab.As I have come to know, it is a really great tool to use throughout my lab, and even my lab professor has found it helpful since she was a student to this day.This atlas is so helpful in analyzing each and every specimen that we are responsible to know.Not only does it allow us to look at everything under a microscope without the actual microscope, but it is also helpful in identifying what each specimen consists of and terms that we are required to know.I use this atlas every time that I am in the lab and it has never failed to answer any questions that I have had.I recommend this atlas to anyone who is taking a biodiversity course, or anyone who is interested in plants and animals under further dissection.This atlas has definitely helped me in understanding plants and animals to a greater extent and I am so glad that I have it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Photographic Atlas
This atlas came with every page intact. The price was great. I would have liked to see what some of the pages looked like just so I could compare the book and make sure it was the same one as my school's bookstore. Thank you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Atlas review
I love this atlas. it comes in so handy for my biology class. nearly all the slides that i look at in the class are represented in the atlas. i wish i had gotten it sooner, though. it would have been very useful for my microbiology & Aantomy/Physiology classes. i would recommend this to anyone taking any college science class.
