Product Description
The Secret has done an excellent job of raising awareness about The Law of Attraction but falls far short of explaining how we subconsciously create our own circumstances, or can do so consciously and with intent. This book fills that need.

In 1904 an Englishman, Thomas Troward, presented a series of lectures at Edinburgh University in Scotland, called, "The Edinburgh Lectures on Mental Science." A true genius who was a century or two ahead of his time, Troward s theory explains why and how The Secret works. Troward also explained how an individual can put it to work for his or her benefit.

Unfortunately, Troward wrote his lectures in the scientific vernacular of his day, making his theory incomprehensible to all but a few academicians. Now prizewinning author and noted metaphysician (Keys to the Kingdom) Stephen Hawley Martin has translated the lectures into plain English and included them in this book along with helpful commentary.

The benefit is this. If you want to put The Law of Attraction to work -- if you want to create the life you dare to imagine -- How to Master Life is the only book you need. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The only bad thing was the title invokes The Secret!!
I am strongly AGAINGT The Secret (TS). I understand from a marketing standpoint, anything that can piggy back on success is the order of the day, but that is one of the few things I found wrong with this book. While I would not consider this a particularly easy read, I would say it was very insightful, helpful and interesting. Where I file TS under a little information is a dangerous thing, this is considerably more well balanced and informative. The fact of the matter is that TS sells because people are lazy and want a quick fix. Invest a little more time inn yourself. You are the only you, you have!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Riding the coattails of what has gone before
Here we have yet another author who instead of making his own contribution to new thought, he takes an older authorities work and 'rewords' it for the modern idiot, The original being written in English no less. It really gets my goat when authors do this because they hack up the original writers words and rephrase them with 'modern' words that may not even have the same concept as the original. The result is a book that does not carry either the same energy or message of the original. This is irresponsibility to the core - if you want to learn Trowards material - READ TROWARD NOT MR. MARTIN. I have nothing but contempt for the hack job this book ends up becoming.

5-0 out of 5 stars Give it a try and see...
This book contains some wonderful information. It explains in a few sentences HOW to create in a new way that finally gave me that 'ah ha' about this whole media frenzied "Secret" phenonomen. For that alone it was worth the price of the book.

However the book goes on to explain some principles which are at work to support and allow 'The Secret' to work.

Money was tight, so I put the book back on the shelf, but the information stayed with me, kind of haunting me with its wisdom.I went back the next night to buy it.

Give it a try and see.

P.S.I have the Ester/Hicks book mentioned by the other reviewer.Though the information in the Hicks book seems valid - I can't quite put my finger on why, but my gut feeling reading the channeled words is to not trust it 100%. Another reason for me why "How to Master Life" really spoke to me.

Blessings....

3-0 out of 5 stars Nothing new here
Save your money if you have bought The Secret. A better book is the Law of Attraction by Jerry and Esther Hicks on how to apply the secret. ... Read more

Product Description
This important new study traces a sociologist's search for meaning using biography and interview in the ever changing world of feminism. Reflecting on her life experiences, the author examines how her own views of feminism have changed through life cycle events and a dual career marriage. She seeks to define feminism in a broad sense and to understand its confusion. The author analyzes the anger often associated with feminism. Peterson takes into account how women gain a realization about feminism by internalizing, expressing and reexamining their views on feminism. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Product Description

Very little has been written about Harold Ickes, one of the most important, complex, and colorful figures of the New Deal. By any standards his public career was remarkable. For thirteen turbulent years as Interior Secretary and as head of the Public Works Administration he was an uncommonly effective official and a widely acknowledged leader of liberal reform. As the foremost conservationist of his time, he saved millions of acres of land from decimation. He was matchless, too, as a fighter for just causes, and used his formidable talent for invective and his inexhaustible supply of moral fervor to flay representatives of prejudice and self-interest, whether in the cause of Negro rights or that of the common man against economic royalists.

Despite a long and distinguished public life, Ickes is an enigma because of his inability to control his rage, to temper his public criticism, to respond objectively to situations. At the heart of his public and private life was constant moral outrage. This astute study by a historian and a psychologist probes the sources and consequences of Ickes' abnormal combativeness.

White and Maze uncover the psychological imperatives and conscious ideals of Ickes' unknown private life that illuminate his public career. Some of the episodes include sadistic attacks by an elder brother; young Harold contemplating shooting his father; bitter and physical brawls with his imperious, wealthy, and previously married socialite wife, Anna Wilmarth Thompson of Chicago; and thoughts of suicide.

Richard Polenberg calls this book "Superb [and] one of the most informative and interesting I have read on the New Deal. The story shows Ickes' weaknesses and flaws, but it puts them in context. The authors have not tried to explain everything Ickes ever did wholly in psychological terms, but the particular insights they bring to bear help present a rounded view of the man. The book is beautifully written."

Product Description

Career development - the processes that shape a person's career over his or her life - is a relatively new field of research in applied psychology. In A Quality of Life Approach to Career Development, Geoffrey S. Peruniak draws from philosophy, sociology, literature, anthropology, psychology, political science, and economics to form a new, holistic approach to career development that extends beyond paid work to include all aspects of life. Emphasizing that a person is a whole entity rather than a role or category, Peruniak also explores nature and the place of community in relation to career development theories.

A highly original text with broad theoretical appeal to several disciplines, A Quality of Life Approach to Career Development also includes exercises and case studies. Most importantly, this book provides a new approach that will complement more specialized methods and serve as a foundation for further study in the field.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not for the squeamish-
A career field that is fast growing, Biohazard Technicians are trained to clean up trauma sites- where violent death has left blood, brains, bodily fluids, and often a grieving family behind. A little too gory for a young audience, nonetheless fact-filled, with crime scene photos that are a little too realistic for the squeamish. Presented as a career that fills a niche in our society, although the job is not pleasant.
