Product Description
One of the world's best-selling authors and the pioneering teacher of the benefits of mind body medicine focuses on America's number one health problem: coronary artery disease.
Millions of Americans suffer from coronary artery disease or have a loved one who does. Despite advances in conventional treatment, it remains the leading cause of death among American adults. Fast-paced life-styles, high stress levels, poor diets, and addictions to unhealthy activities such as smoking and excessive drinking contribute to the prevalence of this disease.
In Healing the Heart, Deepak Chopra, M.D., shows readers how to reduce their risk factors for coronary artery disease by following an individually tailored regimen, based on the principles of Ayurveda, a 5,000-year-old medical system. Specific suggestions enliven health through diet, exercise, meditation, and self-awareness. This safe and effective program promotes a healthy heart by opening the energizing and healing pathways that unite mind, body, and spirit.
Deepak Chopra, M.D., has written twenty books, which have been translated into thirty-five languages. He is also the author of more than thirty audio and videotape series, including five critically acclaimed programs on public television. 5-0 out of 5 stars Multi-media heart care info
This is a multi-media kit to help you learn to have a healthy heart. It includes how to minimize your risk factors, change your lifestyle, reduce chronic inflammation and reduce stress by learning to recognize, analyze and then reduce it with breathing and mindfulness exercises.

The kit containsa small workbook, two audio cd's and a set of 25 cards.

The cd's have the most information, and for people who learn by listening, this is great. In total, the cd's are a little over 2 hours.Dr. Weil is joined by co-authors Steven Devries, MD (a preventive cardiologist) Martin L. Rossman, MD (guided imagery expert) and Erin Olivio, PH.D., MPH (inegrative medicine expert). These authors take turns speaking on the cd's and they talk about not just the physical aspects of heart disease (with very clear explanations of how it happens, how to recognize it, how to combat it with lifestyle changes, supplement recommendations), but also how to use mind-body strategies (stress release, meditation, imagery)to help deal with stress. I think the cd's are a great idea.So many people don't like to read (a mystery to me!) and these cd's would be great for listening to in the car (a great use of commute time) or while doing chores or cooking dinner.

The workbook is not really a workbook in my opinion. To me, a workbook has space to write in it--this one doesn't.However, it can certainly be used to work on your heart health. It's short (52 pages total) and contains the essential nuggets of information (all talked about on the cd's --the workbook really serves as a great set of notes from the cd's).

The cards are part three of this multi-media kit.I love the cards. They have great resource information (there's one on target heart rates, one on heart-healthy supplements, one on personal risk assessment, etc.).

This kit is a great buy for people who have risk factors for heart disease and want to learn how to avoid heart attacks.Knowledge is power and the knowledge in this kit can help combat one of our leading causes of death.

If you have friends or family with heart health concerns, this kit would make a great gift.If you have risk factors, this kit could help you save your own life.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great "kit" for those who are looking for ways to be healthier
I always enjoy going through Dr. Weil's products. He uses flash cards and little booklets to help one learn ways to manage their heart health.I haven't been able to find time to go through the CDS, but if they are anything like the other cds I have by him, I am guessing it is well worth the listen.I used his previous cds to help me deal with anxiety and stress after a major surgery (hysterectomy) as well as the death of my mother. He uses techniques thatany one can understand and do.I keep this Healthy Heart Kit by my bedside - the flashcards especially are a great idea for those who say they don't have the time to read a full blown book on health issues.

3-0 out of 5 stars Seen it all before
This kit has three elements: There are two CDs containing general information about the heart, how it works and current opinions on the best lifestyle for maintaining a healthy heart. There are also meditations to help lower stress levels. The second element is a workbook that has information about maintaining good heart health along with some exercises and references. The final part of the kit is a stack of cards, each containing either a meditation or some information about good heart health.

This is a nicely packaged set containing ho-hum material. There is nothing really new in it. The information is all useful but it just skims the surface. I also don't have a clue what to do with the cards. Maybe if someone wants to do some daily reading on heart-related topics, but there are only 25 of them, so they won't even take you through a month of reading. The one part of the set I liked was the references to other, more in-depth material.

4-0 out of 5 stars An excellent overview and tool
I found the Healthy Heart Kit to be full of great information as others have pointed out. It reminded me of many of the things I already knew, and had lots of new info that I found motivating. I really enjoyed listening to the specialists - It's very rare to be able to listen to a doctor talk about their expertise.
It is a neat kit, but when I would go back to look for certain info, I had a hard time remembering if it was in the booklet, on a card, or on a CD. Made it very hard for me to show my husband anything. Also, as a busy mom, it was difficult to find the time to listen to the CDs. Overall, very good kit.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great new format!
I have long been a follower of Dr. Weil and his integrative approach to holistic medicine so jumped at the chance to review his latest offering, The Healthy Heart Kit.
The kit consists of two CDs, a workbook and a pack of cards (larger than playing cards) that cover topics such as Self Care, Diet and Exercise, Mind Body and Heart Inspirations.Self Care covers blood lipid levels, blood pressure andhow to recognize a heart attack. Diet/Exercise shows the advantages of a Mediterranean diet and offers a couple of recipes along with info on blood sugar levels, target heart rate, supplements and tips for staying motivated. The largest group of cards is the Mind Body group that gives advice on everything from proper breathing to de-stressing, guided imagery and listening to your heart. Finally, Heart Inspirations offer affirmations to help you stay in balance. While helpful and informative, the cards are not something you'd carry with you as they are rather large.

The fifty-two page workbook is divided into five sections on the function of the heart, heart healthy eating and lifestyle, exercise and training, over-the-counter drug, the effect of emotions on the heart and meditation to reduce stress. Each topic is briefly, but well covered with quotes from the well-credentialed authors: Andrew Weil, M.D.,Director of the Program in Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona in Tucson, Stephen Devries, M.D., a board-certified cardiologist, Martin Rossman, M.D. co-founder of the Academy for Guided Imagery and Erin Olivio, Ph.D., MPH, the director of the Columbia Integrative Medicine Program.

The CDs:Session One runs a little over an hour with talks by Dr. Weil on heart health and the anti-inflammatory diet and Dr. Devries on heart function and a heart-healthy lifestyle.Session two contains information on proper breathing technique to relax your heart (Dr. Devries), Mindful Meditation and Stress Release (Erin Olivio) and finally, Guided Imagery for healing the heart (Dr. Rossman).

That covers what's in the box.As for the CDs, I found all of the information highly informative, though not all of it new to me.I wasn't able to practice the guided imagery because I was listening while driving, however, I feel this is a useful tool to attain the relaxation needed to de-stress.One nit: I found Erin Olivio's voice a little grating. She sounded more like a Valley Girl than a meditation motivator.

Is this a worthwhile kit?Absolutely.Though there is little new here, the teaching modality is very helpful when straight text can be dry.I give it two thumbs up.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book (and doctor) saved my daughter's life
My daughter was born in Chicago, IL in 1994 with AVSD - a congenital heart defect.I was desperate to learn more about her condition and I got this book.Sure, I was in over my head in some places but I did my best.It was very readable and I was able to ask much better questions and have some idea of the answers. After reading the more pertinent parts, I actually picked up the phone and called Dr. Neill and left her a message.Within hours she returned my call, asked a few questions and told me the University of Michigan was one of the few places that could treat my daughter. We hadn't even considered going elsewhere for her treatment until talking with her.16 years later my daughter is an extremely healthy and vibrant person. The book was good, the author was great.

5-0 out of 5 stars Superb book for new cardiac parents
Out of all the books in my collection on pediatric cardiac conditions I will have to say that this is the best one out there so far.It has more defects in it and describes them in simple terms then the others books I have seen. This is the first book a new parent should purchase when they find out that their child has a cardiac condition.

4-0 out of 5 stars A must for parents of children with CHD
My husband and I found this very useful when our child was first diagnosed, I was always referring to the list of terms and the pictures.

My only regret is that of another review in that thestatistical information is out of date.

5-0 out of 5 stars Congenital Heart Defects
As parents of two children with congenital heart defects, we found this book to be a wonderful resource. It is a must buy for parents who find themselves faced with the prospect of raising a child with a heartcondition. This book does a wonderful job of describing the types of heartdefects in terms the average person can understand.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good, but the information seems outdated.
This book was very informative, but we have found that the newer publication released in 1998 was more up to date. "Heart Defects in Children - What Every Parent Should Know" was written by a nurse, andhas easier to understand explainations of the defects. It also has a drawin heart section where you can more easily visualize your child's defect. Check it out. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars ACLS Provider Manual
Read the book, watch and read through the DVD/CD and pass the ACLS course with flying colors.

3-0 out of 5 stars ACLS Provider Manual: no CD included
I gave this product 3 stars only because it didn't come with the CD, which my school program required for taking the pretest. I couldn't find info on whether there was a CD or not when I was purchasing. It did come with the cards containing the algorithms.

3-0 out of 5 stars Incomplete Order
I ordered this book for a professional course, and although the book was exactly what I wanted, it DID NOT come with the CD, that is actually needed to complete the course. You cannot buy the CD alone, and I felt I wasted my money buying the book alone. If you need the CD, buy the book new from somewhere else, or make sure somehow the CD is included.

I needed the dvd with the book. the material didn't state this was or was not with book. I ended up ordering one from American Heart Assoc.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for studying for the boards
I got this book to study for the nuclear cardiology boards. As you can read from the other reviews, it presents material in a very natural case-review format that makes it much more fun to read than other texts.Basically, after reading this book, you'll feel much better about interpreting SPECT and PET studies, and about the different protocols, etc.The case presentation is particularly nice in that the board questions are presented somewhat similarly.

For the purpose of the boards you'll need additional study material of course, as this book doesn't touch any of the basic nuclear physics / radiation safety, etc, topics.Chandra's book mentioned in the great review below is very, very good.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book For Nuclear Cardiology Board Exam
SUMMARY: This is an excellent book! hghly recommended!

a)For fellows, i would recommend a textbook first.
b)But for practicing cardiologist, this is a very clinical oriented book, and it is fun to read!
c)It gives helpful information with clinical cases.
d)Good images, excellent presentation.
e)There is no basic Nuclar medicine 9only clinical cases), so this book is not enough for the board exam, and you will eed other books.
f) i think that this is also an excellent book, for people not taking the board exam. the cases are very clinical oriented, and similar to the cases seen in real life!

NUCLEAR CARDIOLOGY BOARD EXAM: MY PREPARATION:

(his is not about the book above, please read only if you are planning taking the exam)

I am writing this review to help other cardiologistswho will be taking nuclear cardiology Board exam: It will also be helpful for people taking other nuclear exams (as the basic parts are the same):

I am a interventional cardiologist and i have been in practice for 9 years and I had limited time to study. These are the books that I studied, and my recommendations are below. I hope it helps!
--------------------------------------------------------------

QUESTION BOOKS:(All 3 recommended for quick review)

1) Nuclear Medicine Board Review: Questions and Answers for Self-Assessment:
a)Good book for quick review for exam purposes (General nuclear medicine review- helpful for all fields of nuclearmedicine, not specifically cardiology).
b)Quick questions and answers on same page.
c)For cardiology, Basis of Nuclear medicine( chapters 1-3). and cardiac (Chapter 5) and PET (chapter 12)sections were helpful

2)Nuclear medicine technology: review Questions for the Board examinations (Ramer,Alavi)
a) Another good book for quick general nuclear medicine review.
b) Questions and answers, no explanations
c) For all nuclear medicine exam takers: sections on redioactivity, radipharmacy, QA, radiation safety, instrumentation, computers, patient care etc chapters very helpful)(i solved chapters 2,3,4,5,8,14,15,16)
d) there is an exam at the end

3) Nuclear medicine Exam Questions: (Andrew Kim)
a) similar to the above 2 books, good for quick review, some explanation of answers, 1/3 helpful for cardiology

------------------------------------------------------------
2) Nuclear medicine basics radiation safety course:
a) went to an 200 hour course in new Orleans, (there are 80 hour courses also and most of them are enough to get board certification in most States. for some States 80 hours may not be enough , so you need to check it)
b)Teachers were R Campeau, Lindsey,Shieau, Conant.
R. Campeau is excellent in clinical review. F.Lindsey is excellent in basics of nuclear medicine. Shieau was excellent in Radiopharmacology.
c)This is a good course, and i would strongly recommend it.
d)But it wook eight 3 day weekends and it may be very difficult to get this arranged if you have a bsy schedule. in that case, 1 week 80 hour courses should be ideal.

------------------------------------------------------------
C)Nuclear medicine Basics:
a) covered in courses well enough.
b)i bought 3 books, but i did not have enough time to read them.
c) the books i bought;
a)Nuclear Medicine basics (Chandra): very good book, key points and Questions at the endof each section are very helpful. I read some of the chapters which i had difficulty understanding. A good read for fellows who have time. Too much time consuming for practicing cardiologist who are too busy Also, a good book for any Nuclear medicine exam, or any one trying to understand the mechanisms.
key poits: (Chapters 1,2,3,4,5,8,15, and Questions: 3,11,12,14 are very good)
b) essential Nuclear medicine Physics (Powsner): his is a good book, Again, i did not have time to read it all. I read only some pages, and chapters epending on what i didin't know. if you don't have time to read the chandra book from cover to cover, I would recommend buying both 2 books, and reading the same topic on 2 books 9selective topics) to understandit better. (read maybe 20-30% of these 2 books.

-----------------------------------------------------------
D) CLINICAL BOOKS:
1) Nuclear cardiology & Correlative Imaging: A teaching file: this is an excellent book for busy clinicians. I read this book from cover to cover, and clinical cases were extremel helpful. i would strongly recommend this book! (470 pages, excellent pictures, very easy reading!)
2) There are excellent clinical textbooks, but they are not easy to read, and very time consuming. i did not have enough time.
3) Chapter on Braunwald is very good for crdiology.

------------------------------------------------------------
E)You need a letter of recommendation from a nuclear certified physician: with exact number of cases you have read. Getting the necessary numbers is not easy and is very time consuming. if you are not in fellowship, it may take 1-2 years!

--------------------------------------------------

G) Board review Courses: (ASNS Nuclear cardiology Board review Course)
a)i did not attend. But, I heard that it is very useful, especially if you can't study enough on your own.
b)But there are review questions at the end of the exam, and i got them from a freid of mine who attended. I solved these questions and some questions were exactly similar. So, i would recommend to olve these questions even if you can not go to the meeting.

H) Other Study material (For cardiologists only)
a)NCKSAP : http://www.asnc.org/section_61.cfm
vey helpful, very strongly recommended.
b)NSCA Questions: very strongly recommended:
http://www.korlak.com/ncsaweb/help/NCSA_QCReview/help.htm

---------------------------------
F) Exam:
a) is given in Prometric test center.
b) It is all computerized. images are not too bad.
c) Time is more than enough.
d) Around 170-180 questions. (less than 35 mistakes was passing (I made 17 mistakes, so it was not so difficult)
------------------------------------------------------

Good luck! i hope this helps!

5-0 out of 5 stars A clinical approach to the topic
When reading text books on the topic of nuclear cardiology you note that they all presents the same information more or less. It feels at some point that alot of the topics presented are repetition and boring. This book presents the same material, but in a clinical more interesting, easy to read format.

This is a book that I was able to read with interest and enthusiasm from cover to cover.

One of the drawbacks of case study books is that they usually present a couple of rare fundemental cases and the rest are all garden variety cases. This book is more of a textbook written in a case review style which is very appealing to physicians. I have also to admit that I was impressed with the fact that the authors were able to present some cutting edge and futuristic technology in a case review fashion..something I never encountered before.

If you are setting for the nuclear cardiology boards, this is not a replacement to the traditional textbooks, but very helpful in anchoring concepts and a very good worthwhile review.

2-0 out of 5 stars mediocre
Mediocre in every way - content, organization, and currency. Henkin's two-volume Nuclear Medicine superbly covers this material and much more (albeit at a higher price). Need a less expensive book that covers only Nuc Cardio? Try Iskandrian. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent and Easy to Read
This book does an excellent job of giving not just the basics of what we know about human hearts, but also of telling the reader why we know what we know.I'm more interested in crocodilian than mammalian hearts, and this book usually provides enough detail to know if the concept being described is about vertebrates, mammals, or just about humans.

I think this book has a lot to offer for people with widely different levels of expertise; it starts from a pretty basic level (assuming you have a solid grasp of general physiology but no expertise) and integrates a lot of information from very different fields and approaches. So if you know one slice of cardiac physiology very well, this book should still be able to help you fit that knowledge into a broader context.

2-0 out of 5 stars not what i expected
It's is not a book to be use as a guide for anything, but for the unaducated patient. It is too expensive for its content and to be recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars A reality check for all women
This is a great book that is easy to read, which I found very helpful at this stage in my life.I am a Canadian black female in my mid forties working with a husband and two children, one a teenager and I normally would not find time for myself. I have started following some of the steps in the book andI am seeing the results in just two weeks. The book talks about taking small steps that translate into big rewards and I can say that in my case this is true.I believe that this is a must read not only for Black women and Latinas, but all women.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mandatory Reading
This book not only gives information, but it provides an easy three step plan that will lead to a healthier heart and lifestyle. This is probably the most important health related book specific to Black Women and Latinas - - it should be mandatory reading. Excellent!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Required Reading For all Black Women & Latinas
KUDOS to Drs. Mieres and Parnell for dealing with a widely written about subject area but heretofore always ignored this very large segment of the population. While most of the advice in this book applies to us all, the specific advice to Black women and Latinas is extremely helpful and valuable. The book is easy to read, extremely informative and a "must-read" for all Black women and Latinas alike. The advice offered in this book can literally save your life! ... Read more

After 6 weeks still no sign of the book I ordered. was told that it could take up to 8 weeks to be delivered. that minor detail should have been emphasized instead of amazon's estimated delivery time. anyway asked for refund.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have text on cardiovascular exam
Technology is not a substitute for bedside cardiovascular exam. This book is an excellent text on the fine art of physical exam and auscultation. The text is comprehensive but does a great job of explaining the underlying pathophysiology which is the key to understanding and predicting the physical exam findings. The diagrams and photographs are very good. The references are old but I did not run across any major discrepancies with the modern literature.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best book on the subject currently available
I am cardiologist and teacher of clinical examination of the heart and circulation for student and clinicians. Therefore I have done a lot of reading on the subject. The content presents peripheral signs as well direct phenomena in a well-blanced way. It is important that emphasis is put on peripheral signs as they often supply the deciding clues for the correct diagnosis. Peripheral signs are for example completely undervalued in German literature on the subject. What I miss a little bit is what you find in recent German books by H. Blömer and P. Franke(unfortunatly not published anymore)are special chapters on disease entities as for example aortic stenosis. This would nicely integrate the aformentioned knowledge of the general part to allow more description for natural course and grading of severity. Too bad the last chapters are still "under construction". The bibliography is excellent and gives a very good idea of how much has been done in the field. "Modern" cardiologists may therefore see how much scientific research has been undertaken and how well argued the book by Professor Constant is. The book presents an approach based on questions and answers. This may not be everybodies choice of an optimal didactic path. Nevertheless you can stick with it. Repetitions are helpful because they help to understand the complex materia. It is currently the best book on the market. It is also better than the book by J.K. Perloff because it takes a more scientific approach. A "must" for serious cardiologists. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very informative and practical
I find this book practical, and a must for someone who has heart disease, and for someone to prevent heart disease. It is written in simple language that is easy to understand, although the subject is very complicated. The book subject matter shows that the author has much experience with heart disease. I would highly recommend this book to everyone with, and without heart disease.

5-0 out of 5 stars Heart disease info
If you have heart disease noe or want to avoid it in the future this is must reading!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful overview for increasing your heart health!
I had a mild heart attack in 1993 and had to remain firm in not undergoing the typical invasive techniques that cardiologists at the time recommended.Too many people with mild heart attacks got bi-pass surgery or stents that almost always are limited in effectiveness and by their very nature cause problems. My father died of heart disease at 54 years of age so I did take my heart attack very seriously.I balked at first at taking medication but have been faithful to the usual drugs that are prescribed since that attack.I was also a firm adherent to the radical no meat, no fish, no oil, no seeds, no nuts diet that Dr Ornish prescribed at the time.I see that he is not as much of an enemy towards fats in general now, but only 'bad' fats. I felt very healthy with this original diet but any lowering of cholesterol was temporary. After three years, I dropped this diet, mostly because it was so difficult to follow it when going out to eat and it really limited my food choices. And it did not work in lowering my cholesterol which was my hope in following it.

I did do a lot of reading about heart disease over the years and added many supplements that had claims to be effective against heart disease. Now 17 years later, my cholesterol is usually around 160 (It used to be between 220 and 300) and I don't have any of the symptoms that indicate advancing heart disease. My doctor is great! At first he was upset with me not going the usual route, but 10 years after, said - "George, you were right."There are studies now that show non-invasive techniques are just as effective as the surgeries that happen. The non-invasive techniques all depend on medications, supplements, exercise, diet, and stress reduction. And they don't cause the problems that surgeries many times do.

Now comes this wonderful book that has all of the information in one place that I had to seek out in so many sources. I was happy to discover that I am already taking most of the supplements that are recommended in the lists on pages 208 and 209, but I now have better information on dosage and the reasons why they are effective.Since heart disease is a progressive one, my current techniques will always need changing and tweaking. This book is a great resource for me and I expect it will remain so for many years.

I do want to mention that from my point of view, there are so many books that advise us adequately about diet, exercise, relaxation techniques, and surgery but not too many out there focusing on supplements in so helpful a way.

Also, my decision to forgo invasive techniques was based on the fact that my heart attack was a mild one.Like the authors, I do feel that I would use surgery if my circumstances changed and my disease demanded a more radical approach. But believe me, I have heard so many stories of people getting surgery with symptoms that could have just as easily been handled by medication and other non-invasive techniques.I'm a big believer in traditional medications and non-traditional supplements. This has worked so well for me that I plan on reading and re-reading each chapter and seeing how I could modify my current approach to my disease with the help of this book.I feel that what I am now doing is reinforced by the information presented. Great job guys!

5-0 out of 5 stars McDougall is my hero
McDougall is compelling and bold in his presentation of a radical protocol for heart health. He is absolutely correct and proves it by his results. It takes this radical approach to reverse the damage done by the typical American diet. The whole dietetic fraternity (or educational approach) approach to heart health diet is scandulously flawed from beginning to end and has permitted a rapidly detereorating condition in the health of America. Sad. But McDougall has the answer and hopefully his program will take hold more and more in the circles of influence that can make the greatest difference.

4-0 out of 5 stars Making a Difference In My Life
I discovered John McDougall through a friend who explained the program to me.Right then and there I decided I needed to know more. So, I went to my first source for information ~ Amazon.com.When I discovered there was a McDougall for the Heart, I knew I was on the right track.I bought a used copy. Then, I couldn't wait for it to arrive. As soon as it came, I read it cover to cover, started fixing recipes and was amazed at how good eating right could really be.I committed to being vegan. The McDougall plan is easy to understand. One potatoe, two potatoe, three potatoe, four.It is starch based.Eat a starch as the basis for meal planning, add fruits and veggies, and you are good to go.I've lost 13 pounds in four weeks, feel great, and I am a heart patient.I am back to exercising when I had given up due to PAD and neuropathy.I am more like myself than ever. This is a decent book, easy read, and comes highly recommended.I was afraid I was going to have to kill the keys in order to be able to type something ever again.Al Milliren

5-0 out of 5 stars Reverse and Prevent Heart Disease. Stop the Pain.
What's the number one killer in America? AIDS? Diabetes? Cancer? America's big killer is heart disease. In the United States, over 1.25 million heart attacks occur each year. To make matters worse many of those who suffer such attacks die before they reach a hospital. According to McDougall, "The cause of the most common form of heart disease is blockage of the arteries that supply the heart muscle. The blockages, results of the condition known as atherosclerosis, are caused by plaques forming along the internal walls of the arteries. Eating rich foods loaded with cholesterol and fats leads to the formation of these plaques. Heredity is also a factor, but should not be over emphasized because at least half the American population is susceptible. Besides, you can do nothing about changing your heredity."

But there is a lot you can change--and McDougall shows you what and how.

He answers all your questions, and most importantly, he backs up his statements with a stack of references to the medical literature. And unlike angioplasty and bypass surgery which are temporary, short-term relief measures (at best), McDougall provides long-terms solutions that remove the cause allowing your body to reverse blockages, and for those without blockages--how to prevent them. His primary emphasis is on a zero cholesterol, very low fat, plant based diet.

The book is fairly complete, includes answers to all your frequently asked questions, includes an abundance of tasty recipes, and explains many things your doctor hasn't told you (in most cases because he does not know). As a former professor in Internal Medicine at Univ. Hawaii Medical School Dr. McDougall does.

If Americans followed the advice in this book there would be little or no heart disease in this country. Best of all if you follow McDougall's advice and follow his dietary advice you will find that the "drugs that were intended to reduce chest pain should be decreased gradually in dosage and then discontinued entirely as soon as possible." This of course should ONLY be done under the supervision of a doctor.

I would buy three copies of this book. One for yourself, one for your loved one, and one for your doctor.

What your doctor does not know may kill you--and many cardiologists sadly are ignorant of the information provided in this book--though thanks in part to the efforts of doctors like McDougall, Ornish, Fuhrman ..., and others, many of them are learning. ... Read more
