Extractions: Artwork My Friends ... Home These are my Sun Conures, Jericho (on the left) and Chyna (on the right). Jericho was born on October 20, 1998 and came to live with me in January 1999. Chyna was born about the same time as Jericho, but she didn't come to live here until September of 1999. They are now a bonded pair and laid their first clutch of eggs between September 30, 2000 and October 5, 2000. Jericho just chillin' Parrots enjoy showers and should be showered often. A shower simulates the rain forest and keeps their skin and feathers in good condition. Make sure they aren't showered right before bedtime, or they may catch a draft while drying off. They can be wrapped up in a towel or dried with a hair dryer on low setting, held a good ways back so as not to burn them.

We at Hideaway Farms do not condone feral flocks. We hope birds can be humanely captured and returned to a safe breeding program. Feral birds have a romantic quality and we all love to see them fly free. However exotic birds can and will usually survive in any area if a food supply is provided. They will then breed and soon become a hunted pest not unlike the Pigeons. When you look at these birds remember they will be better off if caught and housed safely. Feral Conure Flocks in Washington State USA. by Michael Murphy My first sighting of them came last summer after I moved into this area and installed bird feeders. At that time I thought only that the three were feral gotten loose from someone's cage. They never came into feed from the backyard bird feeders. I never saw then during the winter months then right after May 5th of this year they were coming into feed. Then a couple of weeks later I observed a fourth one, then a fifth one joined the group a few days later. Then the very next day there were eight at once. This was May 21st. Since then I have been watching their comings and goings twice a day.

Parrolets These small to medium-sized parrots have become well-established companion pets once the United States banned their importation in the early 1990s. Hand-fed Conures can be cute, playful and colorful...or all at once. They can range from the brilliantly colored but non-talking Sun Conure to the sweet and somewhat talkative Green Cheek or Maroon-Bellied Conure, which some have described as the ideal small companion parrot. Although small in size, not all Conures could be considered the best choice for apartment living; the Green Cheek and Maroon-Bellied are not noisy per se, but the Sun, Nanday and Patagonia are capable of producing a lot of Decibels from a very compact package. Most Conures personalities are quite suited for making a great companion bird, and are intelligent and sensitive.
