They provide traditional academic support programs for students as well as family-focused programs for adults. According to Trujillo (1993-1994), the schools "aim to increase students' academic achievement though enriching the academic program and removing noneducational barriers to learning" (p. 34). Each school has developed summer programs for students and has expanded its hours during the day to accommodate parent and community involvement. At the Family Resource Schools, emphasis is placed on the role of the principal in sharing power with teachers and parents, providing teachers sufficient time and professional development to perform their new responsibilities, and preparing school staff for changes that inevitably will occur when a school becomes part of a collaborative. Each school has a collaborative decision-making team comprised of teachers, the principal, office and building staff, parents and families, neighborhood volunteers, and business representatives. Each school also has a site coordinator who implements and manages the programs and coordinates school, parent, and community outreach.

The AAP defines a medical home as the following: "A medical home is not a building, house, or hospital, but rather an approach to providing health care services in a high-quality and cost-effective manner. Children and their families who have a medical home receive the care that they need from a pediatrician or physician whom they trust. Pediatricians and parents act as partners in a medical home to identify and access all the medical and non-medical services needed to help children and their families achieve their maximum potential. . . where care is accessible, family-centered, continuous, comprehensive, coordinated, compassionate and culturally competent." In other words, every child should have a primary health care provider who knows that child individually, cares about him or her, is aware of his or her medical needs, and is capable of providing culturally sensitive and appropriate medical services. The concept is a little difficult to define in operational terms, and we are still a long ways from achieving the goal that every child has a medical home.

Diagnostic Audiology occurs after a baby fails to pass a follow-up rescreen, between 1 and 3 weeks of age. The diagnostic evaluation should occur between the ages of 1-3 months of age. Some key Components in Diagnostic Audiology of infants and children are: This refers to the Audiologist who is trained, has the technical expertise and desire to work with the infant population. The Audiologist performs an audiological test battery to include physiologic measures and developmentally appropriate behavioral techniques.
