Extractions: This thorough site, sponsored by the Arizona Department of Libraries, Archives, and Public Records, "provides practical training in how to perform collection development activities in public libraries. Sections include an overview of collection development, collection development policies, community needs assessment, selection of library resources, acquisitions, weeding, intellectual freedom, collection assessment, preservation, and donations. Includes bibliographies of articles and books for further reading, and definitions of key terms." "There are many sites on the web that include a library's collection development policies and/or procedures, but these are institution-specific. There are also web sites with information about collection development training workshops, but these are fee-based sessions, and the content of the workshops is not available on the web. Some of the library and information science graduate programs have published syllabi of their collection development courses on the web. These may provide suggested topics and resources or a framework for developing a collection development training program. In addition, this page includes a brief bibliography of sources on collection development training. While only the web site from the Arizona Department of Libraries is an actual training module, the other web sites listed here do offer guidelines for training Collection Development Librarians."
