Extractions: Don and I have been breeding birds since 1980. As you can see, I have been a bird lover for a really long time. This picture was taken in 1953! We work hard to do things right and consider it a labor of love since we enjoy them so much. We started exhibiting at bird shows in 1984..took seven out of ten on the top bench, including Best in Show, at that first show, and don't you know we were hooked. We took many years to accumulate our breeding stock, selecting only the very best of each species. As a result our babies are of excellent quality. We never breed two birds just to produce more.. the goal is always to improve on their beauty and confirmation. I serve the hobby as an American Cockatiel Society Panel Judge. We breed many species of exotics including African Greys, Conures, Pionus, Cockatoos, Macaws, Quakers, Ringnecks and Amazons. Over the past 7 years we have build a small collection of black cockatoos. Even so they are Australian birds, that doesn't mean they are cheap in Australia. Over the years we had to swap and change the partners of some birds, because they were not compatible. Black cockatoos have to like each other or they will not breed. We also had a pair of white tailed cockatoos, but sold them after 2 years, because they did not appeal to us. We now have 2 pairs of red tailed black cockatoos and 1 pair of yellow tailed black cockatoos.

The Roseate or Galah being perhaps the most readily available, but still expensive at around £800.00 each. Generally speaking they are much sought after, kept only in small numbers in mostly private collections, mainly because they are so very expensive to buy, if they can be found at all. Australia has very strict regulations concerning the export of their birds i.e. none allowed. Even though some of these species are persecuted and slaughtered in some regions of Australia by shooting, poisoning gassing, trapping and/or clubbing, yes clubbing to death for alleged major crop damage and are classed as pests.
