Extractions: Those players, who are returning to Downey Park for another season of fun and strong competition, will have noticed the further improvement to the grounds that have taken place during the off-season. This second stage of the re-furbishment is almost complete, and the third stage is about to begin. Unfortunately, this will mean that we will lose access to some diamonds for the season, but in the long term, we will have a much-improved playing facility. A fourth phase is still in the planning stages. The new style of backstop should also provide some extra protection to bench players and minimise time lost by decreasing the number of times the ball is declared dead during the game. This was a major project that began with the new design and trialing of the prototype last season. It is gratifying to be able to sign off on the project. To new players, the Board extends a warm welcome. Please maximise the opportunities to improve your fitness and general health that Softball provides and make sure that you have lots of fun while you are doing it. As a team sport, Softball will provide you with excellent opportunities to meet new people and make new friends.

It also serves the purposes of communication, education and recognition among Masters coaches and between coaches and Masters swimmers. The American Swim Coaches Association is hosting its annual World Clinic in San Diego from September 2-7, 2003. Nine of the top Masters coaches in the country are scheduled to give presentations on Masters coaching and team building on Friday, September 5, and Saturday, September 6. To enhance participation, USMS will pay the ASCA Member Clinic fee, a $149 value, for a limited number of Masters coaches. Each LMSC is entitled to submit the registration of one coach whose clinic fee will be covered in full by USMS. There is a limit of 25 complimentary registrations on a first-come, first-served basis. Use Cntrl "F" to find your team. There will not be practice at Steel Lake for the next three weeks, 3/22, 3/29 and 4/05. The field is closing for the installation of outdoor turf. Beginning April 12th, practice will be back at Fort Dent. The contract with the new owners is through August. When you enter the parking lot, it will be the field on the LEFT, not the dirt field or the grass area on the right where we used to be. We are looking forward to seeing the Fort Dent regulars who haven't been able to make it down to Steel Lake. And we hope the new Steel Lake bunch will drive the few extra miles to Fort Dent. Hope everyone is enjoying their spring season. Don't forget that the men's national team is playing Japan at Seahawks Stadium next week, March 28th.
