Care And Feeding Of Chinchillas A welltaken care of chinchilla can remain in your family anywhere from six to loveto jump, run and play, wire cages are most suitable for pet chinchillas. http://drexotic.com/care_chinchillas.htm
Extractions: Care and Feeding of Chinchillas By Christine Hancock Chinchillas make wildly amusing, playful, as well as loveable pets. A well-taken care of chinchilla can remain in your family anywhere from six to ten years or more. The average male chinchilla weighs between 400-500 grams, while the females can reach 600 grams. Chinchillas love to play, so they require lots of attention from their owners. Supervised playtime is the best way for you and your chinchilla to interact and bond. Since they love to chew and are extremely curious, check that electrical cords, toxic plants, or anything breakable is out of reach of your chinchilla. Grooming/Bathing One unique characteristic of the chinchilla is their bathing habit. Unlike most mammals, the chinchilla does not require a bath in water. Instead, they take dust baths. A wet bath will strip the chinchillas fur of its natural oils which protect their skin and help regulate body temperature. A dry bath is done with dust that can be purchased at your local pet shop, or from most chinchilla breeders. For approximately ten minutes, every day or every other day, place a small dish of the dusting mixture in your pets cage. Sit back and watch as your chinchilla rolls, flips, and plays in the dust! It is always best to remove the dusting container immediately after a bath to prevent the dust from being soiled with feces, food, or bedding.
Chinchillas, Pet Chinchilla Fortunately, there are no known vaccinations required for chinchillas. it a mix forany other pet as it Some schools of Chinchilla care are against giving them http://www.petloversonline.co.uk/chinchillas.htm
Extractions: WARNING!! Although these furry, nocturnal creatures are cute and cuddly their favourite pastime is gnawing everything and anything in sight. So, if they are to be given liberty to run around please be aware of this fact. LIFE SPAN - A chinchilla's life span is between 18-22 years. ADVANTAGES As they sleep all day, they are just waking up when everyone's coming home and therefore can be ideal for someone who works all day, wants a pet, and doesn't want to feel guilty for leaving it all day. Fun to watch. Cannot be housetrained but relatively clean with hardly any odour. DISADVANTAGES Their gnawing habits. The fact that they really need to sleep, undisturbed, during the day which may disappoint children. CARE Chinchillas should be given as large a cage as possible to live in, even if they will be let out in the evenings for a romp around. Good example of a Chinchilla Cage Click here, and then on Fluff the Chinchilla to see it. They will require items in the cage to gnaw on (apple tree branches, unprinted cardboard, etc.) to while away the hours. When I first got my chins, their home was a standard two shelf, completely wire-mesh affair. The first thing I did was to extend it upwards. However, I still was not happy, especially as sand flew everywhere each night even though I put a sheet around the bottom of the cage. I ended up covering a double wardrobe. They now have lots of tunnels (old carpet tubes), shelves, half a tree and sawdust on the floor. The doors stop the sand flying everywhere too!

Extractions: Chinchillas make great pets for families because they have a super temperment for everyone. Very very very rarely will you ever hear of a chinchilla biting someone. In fact, in all the years we've been in the chinchilla business, we've only had one incident where a chinchilla bit us. Additionally, chinchillas are very easily tamed and will quickly be very calm around you and your family, which is why they have become such a popular pet
Chinchilla, Chinchilla Laniger care and feeding Provide a water bottle with fresh water daily. chinchillas mustbe given access to a dust bath (available at pet stores) at least once http://www.exotictropicals.com/encyclo/critters/chinchilla/chinchilla.htm
Extractions: "The Chinchilla's exceedingly soft, dense coat is the cause of it's present extreme rarity in the wild" See other chinchilla color varieties Chinchillas have the finest fur of all the mammals which makes them very soft. They make good pets and are very lively. Keeko loves to go outside in the long grass (on a leash) to jump and play. Pippin is actually Keekos' father! Pippin likes to be left alone more than Keeko, probably because he was in a breeding situation for several years. In the wild they live 18 - 20 years. Description: Chinchillas are an adorable animal with long ears, large eyes and bushy tails. Their tail looks like a squirrels' tail and accounts for about one third of their length. Nowadays there are different colored chinchillas including white and beige chinchillas. Keeko and Pippin are called grey chinchillas. There are about 6 species in this family (Chinchillidae) and all are found only in South America. All species have dense, beautiful fur, and the importance of the Chinchillas, in particular, to the fur trade has led to their becoming relatively endangered as a wild species. The hind limbs of the Chinchillidae are longer than their forelimbs, and the animals are good at running and leaping; they are also good climbers. They feed on plants, including roots and tubers, and their cheek teeth grow throughout life. Social animals, they live in small family groups which are part of larger colonies of 100 or more. Where the ground is suitable, they dig burrows, but otherwise they shelter under rocks. They feed on available vegetation, sitting up to eat and holding their food in their front paws.
Extractions: Our Favorite Wild Animal Meerkats were recently made famous by the movie "The Lion King" because one of the main characters, Timon, is a Meerkat. Isn't he cute? As it turns out Meerkats are in the same family as the Mongoose of which there are many different varieties. Meerkats live in family units in boroughs (dens) that they dig underground. The Meerkat in the picture above is probably acting as the lookout for the den. The lookout duty is traded off among the adult Meerkats of the den so someone can alert them to danger at all times. Although Meerkats are not available as pets, we think they are a delightful addition to our information service!

Pet Corral Chinchilla Information And Care chinchillas have unique personalities, that make them a gentle, curious and loyallittle pet. How you care for your Chin will determine how they fare as a pet. http://www.petcorral.net/chin.html
Extractions: Chinchilla Care The chinchilla is a native of Chile, where it lived at an elevation of about 5000 feet in the Andes Mountains. In the early 1920's, the Chinchilla was almost extinct, thanks to the Indians using the Chin for fur, and the Red Fox enjoying them as a meal. In 1923, Mr. M.F. Chapman brought nineteen Chinchillas to California, away from the dangers of Chile, where he sold breed colonies of them throughout the United States. They did very well in almost every area. Until 1980's, few Chins were sold as pets because of their aggressive nature. In 1984, ABH Chinchilla Ranch developed a line of Chinchillas with a different attitude. Chinchillas have unique personalities, that make them a gentle, curious and loyal little pet. How you care for your Chin will determine how they fare as a pet. A Chinchilla will learn its name, and come when called, so you want to name them and use their name often. Handling Handling a Chinchilla has to be done properly, or you will hurt them. Their ribs are very fragile, and can be crushed easily. Always let your Chinchilla know your coming, as not to startle them. If cornered, they may bite. Once settled, put one hand behind your Chin, and slide your free hand under the abdomen. You may hold onto the tail, but always as close to the body as possible, to prevent you from injuring them. Now raise your pet, supporting its full weight. Never allow your Chin to hang or dangle. The Chin can then be placed against your chest. Support the Chin's rear end, so they don't feel like they will fall.
