Native-amer-connect Montague County Families, Ancestors of my Montague County Family that our family has many native American connections. Chickasaw or cherokee and that she went by her native name. fighting the indians and that the indians on the reservations http://www.ebydesigns.com/native-amer-connect.html
Extractions: After hours of poring through the different Indian Roll Lists at the National Archives, I have come to the conclusion that our family has many Native American connections. The Hendersons and Atkins lines are listed in the Cherokee, Choctaw, Creek and Chickasaw Rolls. The Harpers are listed under all of the Five Civilized Tribe rolls. Blythe, Collins and Jackson are on the Choctaw Rolls. There are Halls and Millers listed as married into the tribes, even the Clarks. So far I have not definitely connected to these tribal rolls but am getting close. By word of mouth from a very reliable source, My g-aunt Dovie [Harper] Treadwell, I know that her paternal Grandmother was full blood [supposedly Chickasaw or Cherokee] and that she went by her Native name. The grandchildren couldn't pronounce her name so they called her Belle. Belle was one of the syllables of her name. When you remember that the white communities in the 1850-90's were still reeling from fighting the Indians and that the Indians on the reservations were fighting amonst them selves way into the early 1900's, you can understand those families who wanted to pass for white, denying their Native heritage. Not only was it safer for them, they could also work in the white communities as doctors, lawyers and teachers. One of the euphemisms used when asked their nationality was to say "Black-Dutch." What makes it difficult for the researcher is that many bloods chose to live off the reservation and did not sign up to be on the rolls to recieve allotments. If your family has names of ancestors going back to early roll lists, they can sometimes connect to their heritage, if not, it sometimes appears as if your ancestors just popped up out of nowhere. There is also the trouble with the names in themselves, some people listed on the rolls are not related to the line of the surname they chose at all, it was merely a name they liked. A great many Native Americans never had a Native American name, therefore don't try finding one. If, by chance, they did have a tribal name, it will be listed after their American (or European) name.

Mrs. Brown (her teacher) then made all of the recipes used into a cookbook. I have included some of these GREAT recipes here. I have also included an interesting food history, which will SURPRISE many of you. ENJOY!

Extractions: Text: DINAP BULLETIN NO. 98-20 TO: ALL INDIAN AND NATIVE AMERICAN GRANTEES SUBJECT: National Indian and Native American Employment and Training Conference, May 24-28, 1999, Sioux Falls, South Dakota Purpose This bulletin provides the final list of grantees eligible for travel and per diem reimbursement for one staff person to attend the Sioux Falls national TAT conference. References None. Background As in past years, the Department of Labor has reserved a percentage of the PY 98 program funds to assist small grantees with travel and per diem costs to attend the National Indian and Native American Employment and Training Conference in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Information a. Each grantee should make their airline and hotel arrangements through Ms. Charlene Keller with the California Indian Manpower Consortium (CIMC). To save money, all reservations will be handled through a single travel agent retained by CIMC. Tickets will be mailed to the grantee staff designated to attend. Any travel arrangements not authorized by DINAP and made through CIMC will not be reimbursed . This is necessary in order to keep expenses within the fixed amount of resources available to support small grantee travel. b. Reimbursement will cover local transportation expenses (POV mileage, parking, taxis, etc.), lodging expenses, meals, and incidental expenses. Airfare and conference registration fees will be paid for one staff person only per grantee on the attached list. Should a grantee named on the attached list send more than one person to the Sioux Falls conference, the grantee will be responsible for all expenses except for those of the one person whose arrangements were made through CIMC.
