Extractions: "Presently, [in chemisty labs] we offer lab handouts that explain the theory and outline the procedure of each experiment. However, for many labs it is difficult to follow the procedure without having the chemicals, glassware and instruments in front of you to see and manipulate. Understandably, students commonly just skim the handout until they have access to the materials. "Because students typically come to class so unprepared (for good and bad reasons), laboratory instructors typically spend 15-45 minutes of class time explaining the thoery and procedure of the experiment and showing all of the glassware and discussing the safety and environmental issues. Still, it is a non-interactive environment where the students watch the instuctor do the things across the room. They need to get their hands on the materials themselves! "Ultimately I would like to write a web-based tutorial for each of the experiments performed in Chem 125/6. I hope to complete functional rough drafts for one or two of the labs. I intend these tutorials to:

Extractions: Detecting necessary software... please be patient. If nothing happens after 15 seconds, Please CLICK HERE Scitutor, developed by a team of leading professors, enables students to master the concepts and problem solving necessary to succeed in Organic Chemistry. Every key concept is presented in it's own tutorial, using animations that allow you to visualize molecules in 3-D and learn the "how-to" of solving problems. To insure that you have successfully mastered concepts and problem solving, Scitutor has an easy-to-use drawing tool that allows students to practice drawing molecules. SciTutor offers a variety of subscription options that are a far better value than the cost of a private tutor. And unlike a private tutor, SciTutor is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We know how important it is to succeed in Organic Chemistry. With SciTutor, the odds of success are on your side. Successful passage through college science courses requires students to perceive the 3-dimensional characteristics of reacting molecules and to develop problem-solving techniques. Most students cannot interpret the 2-D drawings in textbooks. In addition, students must independently discover how to solve problems. Most students do not deal well with independent exploration and therefore rely on the a. assistance of private tutors.
