Virtual Tour, Stop V: Rovereto And Italy's Museum Of War History gleaming white structure whose architecture exemplifies the The castle itself containsmany rooms of the Czechs, AustroHungarians, and other countries as well http://www.worldwar1.com/itafront/rovereto.htm
Extractions: Italy's Museum of War History Italy entered World War I on the side of the Allies by declaring war on Austria-Hungary on 23 May 1915, about ten months after fighting had broken out in France and Russia. Despite this late start, more than 5.6 million were called to the colors before the war ended and of these about 39% became casualties, including 650 thousand killed. Italy's primary war aim was to gain control of Austria's Italian-speaking areas known as Italia Irredenta unredeemed Italy particularly Trentino in the north and Trieste in the east and in this she succeeded. King Vittorio Emanuele III referred to World War I as one of a series of wars fought for Italy's freedom, while the Austrians considered any of the region's citizens who fought on the Allied side in the Great War as traitors and executed a number of captives for treason. The picturesque hill town of Rovereto - City of the Ancient Oak lies in the Trentino region of the country about halfway between Milan and Venice, and almost due north of Verona. It is located in the valley of the Adige River, on the route leading north to the Brenner Pass through the Alps. Now part of Italy, in 1915 it lay within Austria approximately 10 miles from the border and was fought over by both sides in attack and counter-attack. Today it is the home of Italy's highly recommended Museum of War History, inaugurated in 1921 to house artifacts from several wars but mainly featuring World War I.

Sorkhe Hesar, The New Language Of Architecture conditions, numerous travels to other countries by the as the insideoriented architecture;buildings with Golestan complex, Sahebgharanieh castle of Niavaran http://www.netiran.com/Htdocs/Clippings/Social/010802XXSO01.html
Extractions: The Qajars were the inheritor of a sort of architecture renowned predominantly as the inside-oriented architecture; buildings with central courtyards, tall fences with the least decorations on the outside appearance. And yet the windows of the houses are not open to the alleys and the outdoor scenes and sights have no passing to the interiors. The boundary of the home and family is still preserved. Gradually, as the Qajar dynasty began fading, such traditional patterns were influenced by the architectures of outside of Iran. At this time, urbanization began experiencing major changes and more buildings showing off on the facade. Buildings such as Shams ul-Emareh in Golestan complex, Sahebgharanieh castle of Niavaran were born in this period. But the architect of Sorkheh Hesar, who built the building at the heart of a hunting-ground for a special season with red fences around, has created a phenomenon outside-oriented in a totally daring way which could be considered as a combination of modernism in its era.

Extractions: AUTUMN NEWSLETTER See footnote about the Star Trek Exhibition in Hyde Park October must be one of the best times to visit England. London is back in full swing after the summer vacation, the visitor numbers are down, so there is that much more room. Outside the great parks and gardens are in their final flowering and many are at their best. It is the perfect time to combine the pleasures of London with day trips into the countryside. And these can includea visit to a garden and to one of the historic towns or cities. So now is a good time to look at some of the options. Bath is unique. It combines the splendour of the Roman baths discovered almost complete under 40 feet of mud in the 19th century, with the best example of town Georgian and Regency architecture, which ironically preceeded the discovery of the Roman baths by 100 years. It became fashinable for its "waters" in the 1740's but these were developed from the crude medieval baths which had been built on top of the original Roman ones... if only they had been discovered earleir! Nearby is Stourhead one of the supreme examples of 18 Century landscape gardens, which come into their own in the autumn. Stourhead is noted for its gems of garden architecture such as the Temples of Flora and Apollo set in a breathtaking landscape of mature and exotic specimens of trees.

Extractions: In the place where the Volga river flows into the great Volga river, on the border between the Nizhni Novgorod region and the Republic of Mari El the village of Yurino (former Arkhangelskoye) is situated. This is where a unique castle, the epistle of Yurino, may be found. They call it the pearl of the Volga. In 1850 the possession of the estate was taken by V.P.Sheremetev who was married to the St. Petersburg's beauty O.D.Skobeleva, a sister of the well-known Russian commander M.D.Skobelev. V.P.Shcremetev decided to build a castle in Arkhangelskoye. The Russian and German architects R.Muller, A.Parland, Yakov Mamontov and Pave! Malinovskiy designed the castle. The immense castle was erected by craftsmen from the Yurino village. An Italian, Yermi Kristofoli, was invited to make the inlaid doors. The castle architecture in-cludes various features from different styles, and the influence of Gothic, Oriental, Romanic and old Russian styles can be seen there as well. The magnificent building is built of red and black bricks; white stone details effectively stand out against the black and red background. There is a large balcony above the front entrance, which rests on four white stone columns. The Southern entrance leads to the winter garden and a glass cupola rises on an enormous ring, which is supported by seven columns. Such a large winter garden built into the castle is a very uncommon feature. There were almost a hundred rooms in the castle. "The Picture Gallery", "The Oriental Study", "Tlic Oak Room", "Skobelev's Hall" are among them. The canvases of great painters such as El Grcko, Luke Laidensky, Yan Brcgcl Barkhalny, , K.P.Brullov and many other pieces of art testify to the fact that the collection of pictures was unique.
