Cardiology - Heart Attack (heart) Attack. When a coronary artery supplying blood to the (heart) muscle is narrowed, this may cause angina. Roughly two thirds of (heart) attacks are survivable. http://www.cardionetics.com/docs/patient/cardio/attk_bd.htm
Extractions: Heart Attack When a coronary artery supplying blood to the heart muscle is narrowed, this may cause angina. In a heart attack, or myocardial infarction (MI), the artery becomes blocked. When this happens no blood reaches the heart muscle supplied by the artery and that portion of the heart dies. When this happens it is initially like a very acute angina attack because the situation is very similar. The pain may be worse, mainly in the chest, and you may loose consciousness. The normal medicine that takes away angina pains may not work. Roughly two thirds of heart attacks are survivable. The quality of life following the attack depends a great deal on what happens in the following few minutes and hours after the attack. Urgent medical attention should be sought. Once the diagnosis of heart attack is confirmed, so called "clot busting" drugs may be administered. These will attempt to clear the blockage and so save some of the damage. The sooner this happens the better. After a heart attack you may be advised to participate in a cardiac rehabilitation programme. Your doctor will be able to direct you to a centre near you or suggest a home based programme.
