One great thing about this zoo is that it has a wide variety of animals that will appeal to just about anyone. The typical zoo visitor will marvel at "typical" zoo animals like indian elephants, grizzly bears, lions, gorillas, giraffes, hippos, etc. but also appreciate creatures such as snow leopards, toucans, siamangs, and bald eagles. We have selectively bred a wide range of animals that are clean, loyal and rewarding companions. There truly is a pet for everyone, no matter what the lifestyle or need. In 1998 and 1999, the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) claimed that by using DNA testing, it found the fur of domesticated dog and cat mislabeled and used as trim in garments and figurines sold in the US. Obviously, most Americans would find such a trade unacceptable and reject the products immediately if they were correctly labeled. Mislabeling any product, no matter how inexpensive, is consumer fraud, and comes under the jurisdiction of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Fines and penalties can be severe. Trade in Animal Products Canines and felines, as with many other species, occur both in the wild and in domesticated settings, plus there are feral populations of domesticated animals now living wild. The meat and fur of wild canines and felines, such as raccoon dog, coyote, fox, wolf, bobcat and lynx, are utilized in most societies and traded widely. International trade in any wild species at risk is, of course, tightly controlled by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES).

Extractions: A great annual tradition in the San Francisco/Oakland area is the Scottish Gathering and Games. Sponsored by the Caledonian Club of San Francisco, the event features exciting Sheep Dog Trials. Bearded Collies, Rough Collies, Border Collies and other highly trained canines are put through the paces herding sheep and ducks, much to the delight of the crowd. Opened in 1928, the Los Angeles Pet Memorial Park is no ordinary pet cemetery. This facilitys lush 10 acre grounds include the final resting places of the pets that belonged to many of Hollywoods biggest stars. Rudolph Valentinos dog Kabar is buried here as are the pets of Steven Spielberg, Gloria Swanson, Harry James and Mae West. There are a lot of cheerful flowers and lawn ornaments at the cemetery, and many of the grounds trees are decorated at Christmas. The cemetery is located in Calabassas, just off the 101 freeway.

They are also the most social member of the dog family. The African Wild Dog is one of the few mammals who takes care of its old, sick and disabled. These two factors make the animal despised by livestock farmers. In the wild, the cheetah falls prey most often to the lion and leopard.
