Extractions: Favourite book when young Journey to The Centre of the Earth by Jules Verne. Favourite book now : unknown. Career : I avoided one. To busy myself, I write novels and autobiographical books, host a TV show, teach part time at a university, run a publishing company, surf, freelance TV and radio work, perform and record alternative music and raise spinach. My family and pets : 2 kids (12 and 18); a dog and bunch of pigeons and a budgie. I used to have a goat and a telepathic raven as well as a one-winged seagull. No kidding. Room where I write : Overlooking the ocean on a hillside at Lawrencetown Beach, Nova Scotia. What I do in my spare time : surf, hike, play electric guitar with heavy distortion, imagine, travel, imagine some more. As a kid I was : skinny, smart but not very cool, daydreamed a lot and made Tarzan swings, river rafts and tree forts. My first book : the publisher thought it wasn't all that good but I should be encouraged. It was a skinny little book of poetry called Reinventing the Wheel ten years in the making. Kind of immature but full of insight.

60s Odds And Ends odds ends, Vol. After this album's release, these innocent American/canadian heartlandkids became rich LA rock stars and started snorting cocaine heavily http://starling.rinet.ru/music/temp/60sodds.html
Extractions: This page covers acts that I'm not familiar with beyond an album or two, but have listened to enough times to review. The '60s certainly were a unique decade musically - like any other. The acts covered below are only the beginning more will be covered soon. And I've still got three more decades to go. Of the major '60s guitar gods, Jeff Beck ranks somewhere below Hendrix and Clapton in public acclaim, and unlike his peers, his music rarely gets airplay on classic rock radio, though at guitar wizardry he's as adept as either - he's got a lacerating razorblade tone to his work that's more cutting edge than Clapton and more tastefully concise Hendrix; and his sharp corrosive lightning switchblade style probably had more to do with the invention of heavy metal than either. Overshadowed by Led Zeppelin's debut, Beck had already been doing the same thing a year earlier on 1968's Truth I know, I know the image that comes to mind is a trio of slightly balding, sleazily insincere dorks with gold medallions and polyster open-chest shirts latin-hussling down the boulevard to a cheesy soundtrack for seventies swingles to make out and snort cocaine to. Admit it - The Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack

Extractions: Canada's highest-paid executive is Frank Stronach, head of the auto parts giant Magna International. He makes over $40 million a year from salaries, fees, stock options, benefits and bonuses. When quizzed about his stratospheric salary, Stronach replied, "Smart people don't come cheap." CALM Auto Parts magnate Frank Stronach has tried to justify his $43.2 million salary (the highest in the country) by saying he's smart, and he's worth it. He recently made the following claim: "If I added up all the hours I've spent working over the past 40 years, I probably haven't made much more than the minimum wage." Is this possible? Or is it just hyperbole? Let's do the math. At the highest minimum wage in Canada ($7 an hour, in British Columbia), it would take Stronach- even if he could work 24 hours a day, every day of the year - 688 years to earn $43.2 million! He doesn't look that old. To view it another way, if the Magna International CEO had worked every hour of every day for the last 40 years, his $43-million plus salary would amount to about $123.20 an hour.

How cute is that?! He asked his wife to make sure she got my email address, and sure enough, that was the first thing she asked me for when I picked her up at the train station last Saturday. And later at the hotel when she called to tell him she made it fine, that was the first thing he asked her about. *snicker* So, I guess I'm being loved... or stalked. (The latter is a whole different post best left unpublished.) Why is he finally getting wired up, you ask? Well, because I never 11:25 PM Leave Lilly some lub (1) I could be onto something Between clothes shopping with my SIL yesterday who was in Toronto this weekend for a convention and Joe today, it occured to me that my personality doesn't at all match up with my sense of fashion. I am quirky, creative, funky and I love to laugh and crack jokes. Yet, I love to buy Jackie O classic pieces that can be mixed and matched with clean cuts and a bit of fitting but not too much in the wrong places. I would die of embarrassment if I ever looked like I stepped off the set of an hip-hop music video. Yuck. A navy blue power suit appeals to me over knit tops and tight skirts. See what I mean? Unconventional person dressing in a conservative manner. No wonder I tend to baffle employers and managers alike after they hire me.

Last weekend, I spend two nights in a quaint hotel south of Graz... In an upstairs lounge, a small pillow caught my eye because of a Royal Artillery insignia . The embroidery is sewn to the pillow cover made of what I think is a piece of military issue, olive drab, blanket. The owners have few clues to its origin. Either it was sewn by an Allied prisoner, or following the war, by a German or Austrian soldier incarcerated in the same camp. I have attached a photo thereof ... Extractions: June 2001 Lindsay Skinner reports that there was an excellent turnout in Wellington for the unveiling of the Artillery Plaque at the National War Memorial by Lady Thornton. The Horowhenua Artillery Association took a busload down from Levin. The plaque includes 4,5,6,17, and 38th Field Regiments, 28 Heavy AA Regt, 14 and 29th Light AA Regt, 7 Anti Tank Regt and 33rd Heavy Regt. The address by the Col Comdt, Brig Ray Andrews, was well received and there were refreshments afterwards at HMS Olphert. Following this, Lindsay joined the Old Comrades Association for Gunners' Day lunch at the Hutt RSA where many old acquantances were renewed. A good representation at both venues of both past and present gunners.

Based upon a tip from a concerned neighbor, police sent helicopters, armed response units and between 50 and 60 officers to take the community center. After some 4 1/2 hours of manhandling, handcuffing and interrogating the suspects, it was determined that the Kurds had not taken any hostages, but were, in fact, rehearsing a play called
