Extractions: Sponsor: The California State University The California State University is the largest system of senior higher education in the nation. Its 21 campuses span a geographic distance of almost 1,000 miles, enroll approximately 320,000 students, and employ roughly 35,000 faculty and staff. Its annual operating budget is almost two billion dollars. Under the state's Master Plan for Higher Education, the CSU draws its students from the top 33.3 percent of California's high school graduates. The student body is roughly 56 percent white, 19 percent Asian, 17 percent Hispanic, and 7 percent African American. The CSU awards almost 70,000 bachelor and master degrees each year in 250 academic and professional programs. There are more than two million alumni of the CSU, and it has been estimated that as much as ten percent of the entire state's labor force consists of CSU alumni. The system produces 50 percent more business graduates and more computer scientists and engineers than all other California universities and colleges combined. The CSU also prepares 75 percent of the public school teachers educated in California, and about 10 percent of such instructors in the United States. This proposal seeks to establish a structure and process to: 1) summarize the findings from evaluation research linking technology and student learning outcomes; 2) make those findings available through electronic databases and networks; and 3) integrate the findings into faculty development programs concerned with using information technology effectively in the teaching and learning process.
