Product Description
The abundance of food in the developed countries of the world has seemingly spawned an epidemic of disorders connected to the food. Extremes such as intensive concern about one's body image and total disregard for it have resulted in countries which contain enormous segments of the population who are either obese and proud of it or bordering on anorexia nervosa. This new book gathers state-of-the-art research from leading scientists throughout the world which offers important information on understanding the underlying causes and discovering the most effective treatments for eating disorders. ... Product Description
During the past 15 years, research on anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa has grown drastically, providing empirical evidence for a more accurate classification schema of eating disorders. This book brings together the most recent clinical research concerning all facets of these distinct but interrelated disorders, providing a current overview of the psychobiology and treatment of anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. Written by experts in the field, Psychobiology and Treatment of Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa reviews a diagnostic schema of eating disorders from the perspectives of cross-cultural, longitudinal, and family studies. It presents the psychobiology of anorexia and bulimia nervosa in the context of neuroendocrinology and the psychological perceptions associated with eating behavior. The book also examines the familyAs contribution to the development and maintenance of eating disorders from the perspective of family interaction studies. The final section of this book reviews the latest developments in the integration of psychodynamic concepts into the psychotherapy of anorexia and bulimia nervosa, covers cognitive behavioral approaches, and examines the pharmacological treatment of eating disorders. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Recovering Using Reality vs. Therapy
I admit I purchasedthis book from the "discount" section of a local book store, after having bought countless titles previously, all the while looking for the answers regarding my food addiction and subsequent recovery. What was the key to success?Who could help me transform? When I saw the title, the words "bulimia" and "recovery" jumped out at me, and I bought the book in a knee-jerk reaction, thinking it was just another in the series of failures. All of the reading I had done up to this point had proven fruitless. The book began much the same...tales of woe and sadness by recovering overeaters and bulimics themselves, and the author's own personal story, saying how we overeaters tend to cover our emotions with food, and ignore the steps needed to stay in recovery."Yeah, yeah," I thought, as I grabbed another cookie, "tell me something I DON'T know!"(Chomp.) That is exactly what Susan did forme in this book.I was able to "put the cookie down" long enough to keep this book in my hands, getting more from the reading than I ever could from any cookie. What is different about this self-help book was that she offered real, useable solutions for recovery, even without intense therapy, and allowed you the options of which you would like to use. They have worked for others, and she encouraged their use in a manner that was neither accusatory nor demanding. She stated several techniques and affirmations to use in place of the old, outdated eating tapes that many of us overeaters have had ingrained on our brains for years.Susan developed and explained three phases of recovery, and I was able to envision myself in each stage. She listed guidelines and characteristics of each stage, to let you know when you had entered. It was inspiring to me to be able to have that goal in mind, instead of where my next meal would come from, or when my next purging session would occur. I was able to apply Susan's simple, yet necessary, steps to recovering from my addiction, and recommend thi ... Read more

Product Description
Ever need a fact or quotation on bulimia? Designed for speechwriters, journalists, writers, researchers, students, professors, teachers, historians, academics, scrapbookers, trivia buffs and word lovers, this is the largest book ever created for this single word. It represents a compilation from a variety of sources with a linguistic emphasis on anything relating to the term "bulimia," including non-conventional usage and alternative meanings which capture ambiguities. The entries cover all parts of speech (noun, verb, adverb or adjective usage) as well as use in modern slang, pop culture, social sciences (linguistics, history, geography, economics, sociology, political science), business, computer science, literature, law, medicine, psychology, mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology and other physical sciences. This "data dump" results in many unexpected examples for bulimia, since the editorial decision to include or exclude terms is purely a linguistic process. The resulting entries are used under license or with permission, used under "fair use" conditions, used in agreement with the original authors, or are in the public domain. Proceeds from this book are used to expand the content and coverage of Webster's Online Dictionary (www.websters-online-dictionary.org). ... Read more

Product Description
This is the first book to focus on the psychobiological complexity of bulimic disorders. The contributions on the pathobiochemistry and pathophysiology of bulimia nervosa represent the state-of-the-art in the rapidly expanding field of research into nutritional behavior. Aspects essential for the understanding of psychosomatic interactions in bulimia are also elucidated. The therapy of bulimia nervosa is then discussed by experts from both America and Europe with a view to the roles played by basic psychological and somatic research. The possibilities for the regulation of hunger and satiety in patients with eating disorders are considered. The book aims to bridge the gap between laboratory and clinic and to stimulate dialogue between researchers and practitioners. ... Read more
