His domestic career took off when, at 17, he was noticed by Kreimir osi at a friendly youth tournament that featured Mainac and KK Zadar among others, where Bodiroga scored 32 points in a game that pitted two teams. osi then brought Bodiroga for a week-long basketball camp in Zadar and eventually persuaded Bodiroga's family to allow their son to move away to Zadar. Afer a year he was allowed to be moved into the full squad, then under head coach Slavko Trnini. After just one season in the first team, Bodiroga's stay on the Dalmatian coast came to a premature end when the conflict that pitted Croats and Serbs against each other inflamed in May-June 1991. 4-0 out of 5 stars She's the Best, and this is a view form the first WNBA Season
Over the course of Lisa Leslie's very successfulcareer she's emerged as the Top women's center to ever play the game, if not the top playerregardless of position. This book is great for it's stories about the earlyyears when Lisawas in high school andcollege. Follows her careerright thru the firstWNBA Season. I find it an interesting read to look back on the perception of Lesliefrom 10 years ago, since then she's only gotten better. A very good read about a most beautiful and gifted woman, who is also an athlete who has been the face of the women's gamefor USA Basketball internationally for more than a decade. This book helps with the "before" part of the story for the "after" we are aware of today. Also it gives a good perspective on where she was as a player and should be a real nice timecapsule for anyone who follows Lisa's stellar career. (It must be in the final years at this point.) She has shownthe drive to continue to work to reach her goals, and improve her game every year. How much more can she continue to do this? This book won'tgivethat answer, but it might help you ujnderstand the mountain she's climbed thru theyears.
Downside of the book? Only that it does not have the full decade of WNBAplay to draw from. This was written in 1997, the leagues first season. If you've been a fan of Lisaover the years, you know most of this stuff, and more.ON the positive side, if you're a new fan of the WNBA of women's basketball, the Sparks and or Lisa Leslie, then this bookgives you background on her that covers the time before she became as polished and successful as she is today. Lisa is an inspiration and she takes nothing for granted this book is a great read for anyone looking for the good side of sports andathletes whoyou can look up to with honor.Plus anyLisa Leslie Memorabilia collection is not complete without this book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Book That Never Left My Mind's Eye
I first read "B-Ball: The Team That Never Lost A Game" when I was in my seventh grade English class. We had to choose a book to read from the teacher's collection, and this one just drew me in.The title iswhat caught my attention. What sports fanatic wouldn't want to read aboutsome incredible basketball team that could never be beaten? It's seemedtoo good to be true.I began to read this book and quickly realized thatthis team was a different type of team.It was a recreational league teamthat was comprised completely of mentally challenged players. The authorof this book was the coach of team.He took the job having never dealtwith these types of people before. In their first practice he quicklybecame frustrated that the team members had no real sense of competitionand didn't understand his ideals of how to play basketball correctly.Inthe beginning he nearly quit, but hung on because he felt something deepdown that told him to keep trying. He continued with his team and hispractices. They played their first game, and to his surprise, the coachesof the other teams in their league, also comprised of mentally challengedindividuals, did not keep score, and played for fun. After weeks of thesegames, the author/coach came to the realization that basketball is to beplayed for fun, not for competion, for recognition, or for money. As longas everyone had fun, everyone was a winner. He continued coaching his teamthrough the years, and his team continued winning. They eventuallybroadened their competition, and played regular school teams, high schoolteams, and other recreational teams made up of players who were notmentally challenged. Each and every game however, they found a way forevery player on both times to just enjoy themselves as much as possible. And in this way, the team won every game they played.Along with the focuson the basketball aspect of this book, other areas were covered.Howpeople dealt with these mentally challenged basketball players was shownwell, and the problems that the coach and his players had to deal with toplay some of the teams they did was the focal point of the book.It was agreat book about how one can deal with a mental disability, and still havethe time of their life. I last read this book nearly four years ago, butI still remember it vividly in my mind.I read it more than once in thatEnglish class in 7th grade; I probably read it 10 times.I am not a hugefan of books, but I loved this one.I it one of my favorite books of alltime, and I feel that everyone should read it.If you can find a copy ofit, read "B-Ball: The Team That Never Lost A Game". ...
