    Extractions: Making fun of TV shows we secretly love. Main April 02, 2003 Am I being lead down the primrose path? I know, there was a new episode of 24 on last night. This entry is not about that. I'm sure someone will step forward to talk about it soon. This is a personal question that I'm hoping someone out there in Snarkfest land can help me with. Being TV junkies, someone must know. Got a call last night from the cable company. Despite my policy against buying anything that a telephone solicitor is trying to sell me, I listened. Don't ask me why, but I did. He was offering a great deal on their digital cable company, and he claims that it won't interfer with my VCR recording like I normally do. And there in lies what worries me. See, in spite of all the TV I watch, I'm often not home to watch it and rely on my VCR to record it for me. For example, if I'm not home on Tuesday nights, I need to record Buffy on one station and 24 on another. The cable box I currently have (so Marcus can watch the Sci-Fi channel) makes it so you can only watch one channel without physically changing the channel. If the digital cable box works the same way, then I can't record the shows I need to record. Also, I've been known to record one show and watch another one, which I can't do with my current cable box. I know this is the case with a satelitte as well. So, does anyone have some knowledge that will help me? They're supposed to come Friday morning, but I can always call and cancel if I change my mind. The offer of finally getting TV Land is so tempting. (Just what I need, another new channel with lots I want to watch on it.)

It's also a site for calcium storage and the production of red blood cells. 2. A bird's skeleton is made of bone. Many of the bones are fused or modified for greater strength and rigidity in walking, jumping, running, perching, and especially flying. a. The sternum, or breastbone, is more developed than in other vertebrates. It has a large flattened plate, called a keel, for the attachment of flight muscles. b. The wing attaches to the body via a sturdy pectoral girdle. In birds the pectoral girdle is made of three bones, rather than two as in humans. The furcula or "wish bone" is part of the pectoral girdle. c. The wrist bones of the wing are fused and elongated and only three finger bones (digits) remain. d. The pelvis is long and has a forward opening to facilitate egg laying. e. The thigh bones are generally shortened and sturdy. The foot and ankle bones are fused and elongated. f. The thigh is held close to the body and covered by feathers. The visible backward bending leg joint corresponds to the ankle joint in humans. Birds stand on their toes.

    Extractions: An owl's eyes are fixed, so it cannot move its eyes from side to side as a person can; if an owl wants to look at something off to one side, it has to move its entire head. But what the owl can do, thanks to specialized neck bones and muscles, is move its head rapidly, far to either side, increasing its field of vision to 270 degrees. That's almost 3/4 of a circle. Encyclopedia: Owls Birds of prey, owls along with hawks, eagles and falcons, consitute a group called "raptors" whose members are distinguished because they have talons (sharp claws) on their feet for catching prey and hooked beaks for tearing it apart. Owls, however, are only distantly related to their daytime counterparts. They are more closely related to other nighttime (nocturnal) birds like whip-poor-wills.

The Education Program began in 1985 and has since grown rapidly to its current role which is to operate the Velma Morrison Interpretive Center in Boise, Idaho. We are open to the public seven days a week, and we also give hundreds of scheduled tours, especially for school groups. More than 100 volunteers each year help staff the Center and provide educational tours and other assistance. Results ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Volunteer Information This year we had over 27,000 people visit from all 50 states and 33 foreign countries.
