EMBO - Promoting Molecular Biology In Europe. organising and supporting scientific courses, lectures, and from the field of molecularbiology and related an Epublishing and online information platform (E http://www.embo.org/organisation/history.html
Extractions: activities contact EMBO and the European Union EMBO started life in 1964 after leading scientists from the field had realised the importance of molecular biology for Europe. They felt the need to organise European resources in a more effective and international manner, because of the multi-disciplinary nature of molecular biology which implied that not all skills might be available in any one country. Therefore article S2 of the Statutes of the Organization states that EMBO was established to promote and encourage the development of molecular biology in Europe and the neighbouring countries. It was one of the elements in the Statutes also that the members of EMBO are elected by the existing membership. The initial programme of EMBO had a number of different elements: postdoctoral fellowships in which the international character of the fellowships would be a distinguishing feature;
