On behalf of the University of Missouri and the University of Missouri Sports Medicine Staff, I thank you for your interest. The Univeristy of Missouri undergraduate athletic training program is an internship program. Our goal is to prepare the student with the skill and knowledge needed for the entry-level athletic trainer, a goal accomplished through an exciting blend of classroom instruction, a challenging multi-level competency testing program, and a minimum of 1500 hours of clinical experience. These clinical experiences include rotations through the two coeducational athletic training rooms, coverage of twenty intercollegiate sports in the powerful Big 12 Conference, sports medicine clinic, and orthopaedic surgery observations. The University of Missouri intercollegiate athletic program is undergoing unprecedented growth and revitalization under the direction of Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Mike Alden. Our beautiful Dr. Glenn L. McElroy Sportsmedicine Center is, without question, one of the nicest facilities in the country. Included within the 9,000 square foot athletic medical facility is a Swim-Ex pool, a Biodex 2 isokinetic testing and rehabilitation system, numerous custom made treatment and taping tables, a hydrotherapy room, and a spacious state-of-the-art rehabilitation area. I thought that Gonzaga was a lock for at least the Elite 8 in the NCAA Mens Basketball Tournament. They had been ranked number 6 in the nation, but had gotten a lower seed in their region by the seeding committee, so I figured that they were a powerhouse with a chip on their shoulder and something to prove. Not! They bowed out in the first round, along with Bob Knights Texas Tech, Florida and Michigan State. The only thing that I knew was not to pick Cincinnati; they choke every year. So, we are down to the final 16 and, if youre like me, your brackets are toast; the chance of you winning money is as long as the likelihood of my becoming Pope. Anyway, there is a 10, 11, and 12 seed still alive, namely Kent State, Southern Illinois, and Missouri respectively. I didnt know Kent State played Division I basketball, their main claim to fame being four students killed in 1970 during a campus riot by the Reserves, but they beat number 2 seed Alabama in the South region.

Mailing List Baseball Chicago Style By Evil Tony Fernandez Baseball Chicago Style Its the beginning of August, and, as usual, in Chicago its time to look to football. Both the Cubs and White Sox are so far out of contention, they couldnt be found with a map, a Geiger counter and an electron microscope. However, I think the two teams are going in opposite directions. This week, the White Sox just traded catcher Sandy Alomar, Jr., outfielder Kenny Lofton, pitcher Bobby Howry and second baseman Ray Durham for six minor league pitchers. But the Sox also swept a weekend series with Kansas City, won their first game against Minnesota and lost a tough, hard fought game 2 against the Twins 2-1 in 10 innings. Meanwhile, the Cubs took a 9-4 lead into the bottom of the ninth inning against the Cardinals and lost the game 10-9, and as analyst (and former Cub pitcher) Rick Sutcliffe put it, the Cardinals were determined to win; it wouldnt have mattered if the Cards were behind 10 runs, you could just see the determination. In their next two games, the Padres came from behind to beat the Cubs 6-5 and 8-6.
