4-0 out of 5 stars Teach Yourrself Visually Handing Spinning
Lots of information some not so clear. You must have some understanding of spinning before one reads this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wish I could do more stars
this book is one I consider the 'bible' of spinning. It breaks it down into easily understood directions and has pictures so that you won't be left without 'visual' help.

excellent, excellent, excellent book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Buy
I just wanted to chime and give my thumbs up for Teach Yourself Visually Handspinning. It has lots of useful information from fibers to yarn, this book takes you through everything you would want to know.

5-0 out of 5 stars A colorful start
This book has been touted as a good hit the deck running book for spinners and potential spinners. That is true; however it is also very useful for people that have quite a bit of spinning under their belt.

It really is the visual that make a difference. The only thing better are the now available DVD's. The descriptions at first may seem a little superficial or curt. However you cannot explain what it takes a book's worth of knowledge in one paragraph.

One may look at page 15 and wonder want a bobbin driven wheel is but this is not a place to go into detail; it is just a preview of what will be explained later in the book.

I can see where it would be easy to learn to spin one way and become an expert, yet still miss some of the finer points and even useful equipment. This is why you may want to read the book from cover to cover before investing time and money. I was glad to see that most of the pictures were of Ashford equipment as that is what I am most used to using.

This is a must for your library. Also even when you know something is nice to have a different view on the subject. Be sure to supplement this book with articles from the author in "Spinoff" magazine.

The Intentional Spinner: A Holistic Approach to Making Yarn

5-0 out of 5 stars THE Beginner Spinner's "Bible" - Or - it SHOULD BE!
Have to say - I only WISH this book had been available when I began my own Spinning Odyssey some four years ago! The simple TEXT & particularly stunning PHOTOGRAPHY are both easy for the Novice Spinner to grasp & MASTER without getting bogged down & drowned in the mechanics of Spinning.

THIS book should be kept within EVERY Spinner's grasp & considered a Beginner Spinner's Bible & terrific Spinner's mini-refresher course at ANY skill level! Simply put - a MUST NOT MISS addition to any Spinner's reference library! ... Read more

I got this book as a present for my mother who has taken up quilting as she has recently become a grandmother. She loves it and said it was an excellent resource. She had been using another book but switched to this one and said it was better than the one she had been using. She was having difficulty with certain stiches and found this book very helpful in that regard. Highly recommended.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good practise tool...
Only problem I have with this is my problem. I want to do carvings on round ojbects. With training, I will probably be able to transfer ideas from a square piece of wood to a tree trunk/limb.

You use features of the square block to help you carve the facial features that are on the study stick. It's working well.

This is a good tool for learning to carve a face. I have gone thru the stick that came with it and a couple more I got from Hobby Lobby. But I am having fun making would chips. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best!
This is literally the best book to teach yourself to knit! I have several and I wish I had bought this one first. You can't beat it for the money.

4-0 out of 5 stars Teach Yourself VISUALLY Knitting
This book is fantastic for learning how to do the simple and more difficult elements of knitting. the pictures are fantastic and captioned for easy interpretation. I myself am and intermediate knitter and was looking for some more difficult tequniques of knitting, which were displayed in this book in a way which made it very easy for me to follow whilst i was knitting along. I would highly recommend this book to any new or not so new knitter. I myself had it recommended to me through a knitting website. Very helpful book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect book for Beginners
I have just started teaching myself to knit and love this book.I am very much a visual person and this is a perfect visual aid.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book for A Newbie
The last time I knit anything I think I was in the 7th grade, and we learned how to knit a scarf. That was more than 30 years ago, and when I decided to try again, I researched a lot of books.I picked this one up and knew immediately that this was the right place to start.I am literally working my way page by page, trying out each technique and creating samples (from low-cost yarn) while practicing each and every stitch. There have been only two occasions when I was having trouble understanding how to do a stitch, and I found a great resource on YouTube. If you can't quite "get" what is written, check out "The Knit Witch" videos on YouTube. There are a lot of videos on knitting, but Knit Witch has great lighting, a good contrasting background, big needles, and a person describing the stitch who is the perfect voice and knitter to do this.So combining those videos with this book (and they are not related)has helped me zip through some surprisingly difficult stitch patterns.I've been very proud of myself when I follow the instructions and then see an amazing pattern emerge from my knitting needles.I'm still a beginner, but I'm up to cable stitches, after having worked my way through all the basic knit and purl stitches, and some of the fancier ones.I can do some interesting cast-ons, and can bind off knitwise, purlwise, in pattern and with a crochet hook, and I didn't know how to do ANY of that before I picked up this book.I'd give it six stars if I could.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a book!
As a beginning knitter I am so thrilled with Sharon's easy to follow knitting tutorial.I used to think that books wouldn't be able to guide me through my knitting but I don't believe that anymore. The first pattern I picked out to follow was beyond clear and before I knew it I was celebrating the results! I can see that Sharon's book will make the complicated- easy and help my knitting aspirations come true! ... Read more

Zoe Lucky: and the Green Gables' Mystery

In my book, Zoe Lucky and the Green Gables' Mystery, Paki, the African Grey Parrot is Zoe's sidekick. He is quite a character and I wanted to be able to share him with my audiences when I gave a book reading or signing. I ordered an African Grey Parrot hand puppet and have been having a great time learning to manipulate him.

This book has been a great help in showing me how to bring him alive.

5-0 out of 5 stars Making Puppets Come Alive
This is an excellent book for the novice as well for the experienced puppetier. It is simple, visual and is an excellent tool for teaching.I whole heartily recommend it for the student and the teacher.

5-0 out of 5 stars Making Puppets Come Alive
What lies beneath this simply drawn cover is a comprehensive hand puppetry textbook that is as interesting and accessible as it is theatrically sound.

I first discovered this gem in my local library and began to study and apply it's exercises.Plenty of photographs to serve as illustrations of movements that are performed by the puppeteer's fingers, wrists and arms. The results are an aquired vocabulary of movements and techniques that allow even a simple hand puppet to portray age, mood, intent, emotion and energy as well as perform a range of tasks that can deliver a real character to an audience.

Simple enough for kids to learn and great for group intruction.I am currently working on a TV and video project and have purchased an extra copy to bring to the studio as a reference allowing me to expand the range of expression with the puppets used in the production.

"Making Puppets Come Alive" delivers a superb explanation of one of the best (if not the best) hand puppet manipulation systems in puppet theatre. Plenty of photos to guide and clear text.

the materials I order were received in very good conditional. I am happy with the service I received and the timeliness of the shippment. I would recommend this company to my friends for their future needs of educational materials.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good book for any woodworker
Book seems to be very well written and organized. There are a lot of pictures, which are clear and helpful even though the pictures are quite old.Regardless on the old pictures, the methods presented and explained in this book (actually three books) are everlasting. Actually every modern day woodworker should take a look on this book. It's enlightening.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent woodworking resource
Excellent set of books, and the DVD is invaluable. You get to see a master at work while he gives reasons about his methods.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Frid
I first came in contact with this set while in college studying woodworking about 6 years ago. While in school I referenced it many times for a complete 'how to' to a 'how do I do that again.'Now, I am still in the woodworking business, and this is a great set of books to have around to consult for what ever reason, thus, I recently got my own.I especially like a chart he has for doing compound angled miters- I must have looked at that a hundred times.Though the pictures are obviously dated, the skills and basics techniques he writes about are timeless, and are a fantastic jumping off point for someone to figure out how to make anything. He teaches you everything you need to know, I highly recommend this set.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tage Frid
These are great books full of good information. Not all of his furniture is
in a style that I would choose, but it's constrution is great. The DVD is good.
Although not packed full of woodworking skills, it's nice to watch this master work
