Aromatherapy forthe Soul: Healing the Spirit with Fragrance and Essential Oils
By Valerie Ann Worwood ISBN 1-57731-562-6, New World Library, 2006

Have you ever walked in a forest after a spring shower or walked through a flower garden in full bloom and breathed in the aromas? How did the aromas make you feel? Did you feel drawn to a particular fragrance? Valerie Ann Worwood's book Aromatherapy for the Soul brings clarity in identifying and explaining why certain aromas appeal to the spiritual senses. This book covers the uses of essential oils in spiritual practices from Egyptian and Biblical times to the present. Worwood's writing style makes reading this book enjoyable and informative. She explains how essential oils can be used to enhance spiritual growth and self-healing. For people in the healing professions she explains how essential oils can affect subtle energy work and their connection to the chakras. She includes helpful charts, simplifying what is a very complex system of the uses of essential oils in assisting the body to heal itself. This book would be a welcome addition to any aromatherapy and/or self-help library.Michelle Holmby, Healing Arts Center, Chico,[...]

5-0 out of 5 stars Interesting Information
Have read a number of aromatherapy books but never one about the healing of the soul. Great information in an easy to read format. Glad I have the book for future reference.

3-0 out of 5 stars Depends what you're looking for
If you're seeking a book that culminates much of the already available information in one place, this book could be good for you.It provides guidance on suggested blends for various ailments of a more spiritual nature. The reason I have given this a 3 star rating is because this is not what I was after. For me, a book of this kind hopefully gives you the tools to make your own evaluations of formulae and the 'grass roots' to do it all yourself.I was looking for a book that provided guidance that all the other aromatherapy books do not - it didn't.If you have a general aromatherapy book, or one of the other Worwood books, this one won't add much marginal benefit.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not like her other books.
Although somewhat informative it did not contain the recipes I was looking for like the ones in her "The Complete Book of Essential Oils & Aromatherapy" which I've used so much it has the scents of many essential oils amongst its pages.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exploring links between spirituality and aromatherapy
Fragrances contain unique properties which can not only heal, but evoke emotions memories and even visions: while much discussion revolves around healing, Aromatherapy for the Soul: Healing the Spirit with Fragrance and Essential Oils focuses more on the psyche, with chapters exploring links between spirituality and aromatherapy. It previously appeared as THE FRAGRANT HEAVENS: its new title promises a wider audience.

4-0 out of 5 stars Aromatherapy Workbook
This book is full of helpful information. I look at it frequently to mix my essential oil blends. Essential oil information can differ depending on the author but this book seems to be spot on for cause and effect.

5-0 out of 5 stars Venture into the chemistry...
Useful, good intro to aromatherapy chamistry.Get another more "poetic" book to go with this one, for a balanced introduction.

4-0 out of 5 stars easy to read; comprehensive; a little difficult to follow
Marcel Lavabre uses lay-person's language to explain and educate the reader about the basic and the chemical world of essental oils.I have a heightened appreciation for these chemicals as well as a greater understanding of how they work, and how to make use of them in my business.I do find it a little difficult to locate the specific application of an oil in the many tables that are offered, but the information seems to be fairly comprehensive. ... This is a re-published book from the 90's.I was disappointed that the author published it again with a new cover but the contents of the book were entirely the same as the old version. So the old version was no longer available for sale.I love the book but do not appreciate the author's deception. This book is available in the earlier copy at your public library. So read it before you invest.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good clinical information/not for everyone
As a nurse, I appreciate the research and in-depth information this book offers. However, I don't recommend this to the casual user of essential oils--it's not really a "how to" book, or a book filled with aromatherapy recipes. But for those who work in the medical field and want to learn more about using essential oils in a clinical setting, this is a great resource.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource!
I am a nursing student and I was seeking information on the healing properties of essential oils in the clinical setting. This book contains case studies, as well as ample scientific evidence that essential oils are a valid alternative to conventional medicine.Essential oils can be used in alleviating pain from late-stage cancer, and also in healing pressure ulcers. It also discusses the use of lavender in the treatment for pregnancy-induced hypertension. The book also cites a study where antimicrobial oils were combined to heal a surgery wound infected with MRSA...this is HUGE.

I highly recommend this book for those already in the clinical setting, or for those who are merely seeking information about essential oils.

5-0 out of 5 stars Useful, important book. Highly recommend it.
This book is turning out to be a valuable tool for me in practice and teaching. I recommend it for students, teachers and health practitioners who want to use essential oils to enhance patient care. It is well-written, objective, practical and has extensive references, summary tables, appendices and index. As a physician, I appreciate its integrative approach. It is a good synthesis of history, chemistry, safety issues, experience, basic science, some of the most current clinical research, clinical applications and more. I especially liked the section on infection. In my opinion, it is an important work, which could well influence future research and clinical use of essential oils in the United States.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Resource
This is a great book for any health professional wishing to enhance patient care with aromatherapy. As a nurse, Ifind it to be an outstanding resource full of scientifically based information related to essential oils and their uses. Dr Buckle has included an easy to use index to guide the reader to information on a variety of diseases and conditions which respond to aromatherapyintervention. This is a "must read" for anyone incorporating aromatherapy into a clinical or community setting.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent choice
Sick of all those superficial and almost identical books about aromatherapy?
If you are tired of aromatherapy recipe books and want some solid, research-backed (yes over 1,500 references!) information about how to REALLY help people with chronical pain, depression, Alzheimer's disease, pressure sores, insomnia, nasty infections, nausea or just to understand how essential oils work, don't hesitate to get this precious packed advice from former nurse and now PhD Jane Buckle. I have more than fifteen years of experience with essential oils but I found much useful news and lots of inspiration in this unique treasure box. The chemistry section is outstanding as is the section on side-effects or interactions with common drugs (in case you work with essential oils as recommended in some of the above mentioned books...) ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book
This is a great book!! I bought this book as a beginner on essential oils. I found that it not only met my need but also that it is for those with an advanced level knowledge as well. It tells what the oil and plant/tree/bush are good for. If you don't have some typed of medical education you may need to look up the disease processes, but still extremely beneficial. It also give the characteristics of the oil, what part of the plant/tree it comes from, the distillation process, what other oils it mixes well with, the toxicity levels, and also the combination of oil/plants to treat the disease process. The only thing that is not specifically mention is the exact amounts of the product to use. This is a great book to have for the beginner as well as the advanced.

5-0 out of 5 stars Reference Book
I was really impressed with the work that went into this book. You NEED this book for your library if you are serious about making products using essential oils for more than just a hobby. It is difficult to find straight reference material published on essential oils, and even more difficult to find published material on combining oils for perfumery.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!!!
This book is a great book to have on hand. It tells you everything about an essential oil that you need to know. To bad it's not in print anymore.

5-0 out of 5 stars Aromatherapy Essentials
For quite some time I've been fascinated by essential oils. While they can at times be quite expensive to collect a few high-quality essential oils can go a long way.

This book is divided up into three main sections. In the first section there is a brief history of essential oils and an interesting picture to show steam distillation. There is information on why lavender and neroli stimulate new cell growth and how rosemary encourages healthy hair growth.

The second section is very helpful with ideas on which essential oils to use for a wide variety of common complaints. While it is interesting to note that cardamom and black pepper are good for heartburn, a recipe would be useful. If you want a recipe I can recommend the one for a chai tea in Savoring the Spice Coast of India: Fresh Flavors from Kerala. I made it tonight using soymilk and a rooibos teabag.

Part three in this fascinating book includes information on 165 essential oils. While I've read many books on essential oils there were numerous oils I'd never heard of before. In this section there are a few oils you want to avoid like wormwood that can cause brain damage. You may recognize bergamot if you have ever made Earl Grey tea. Could lemonade be part of a cure for arthritis? This book gives all sorts of new information and also has a helpful glossary.

While this book is comprehensive I think it would have been better to organize the essential oils according to their common name instead of their Latin name. Fortunately there is a good index so you can find your favorite essential oils fast. In the index you can find the common name (frankincense) as well as the Latin or botanical term (Boswellia Carteri).

If you are looking for any additional information I can also recommend anything by Connie Higley: Reference Guide for Essential Oils Tenth Edition, October 2006. I have the 1999 edition but have been considering the new edition to add to my collection.

~The Rebecca Review, currently wearing Aura Cacia Love Potion Essential Oil .5 oz. I love all the Aura Cacia essential oils.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very interesting
Techinically I would rate this 4.5 stars, but rounded up ;)I found this book to be fascinating and my only complaint is that it left me wanting to know more.
Typically when I get a reference book I end up reading the interesting parts and skipping the boring ones.I read this book from cover to cover in the first days I had it.The chemical composition chapter could be daunting to some, but I found it very interesting and it makes it easier to see how certain oils relate to others.I like how the book flowed, it was like an ever broadening introduction of information.I also appreciated that this is a book made for massage therapists who want to incorporate aromatherapy, and this anthem was repeated throughout the book. Some techniques that massage therapists wouldn't utilize, ex. ingestion of oils, was briefly described but only to further understanding of the broad scope of aromatherapy and it was made clear that a massage therapist would not practice these techniques.
I like that the individual oils were detailed in the middle of the book vs beginning or end. Also very helpful was the tip on learning the scientific names of the oils. There are so many types of lavender, I formerly assumed there to be only one kind. Now I can look for scientific names and know 2 things; what I'm really getting, and if this is not included with the oil that the dealer may not be one I want to buy from.
The only thing I would have liked to have seen more of in the book is perhaps some blending recipes.Techniques on blending the oils is discussed, but I would have liked a few more ideas to experiment with even if they were simply guidelines.
Overall, I'm very happy with this book and have not found anything compareable on the market for massage therapists wishing to utilize aromatherapy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Articulate and without peer
If you have ever had the privilege of being under the most competent, capable and knowing hands of Ingrid Martin, you would not question her ability to write any book about massage. But when you add in her aromatic prowess and blending skills, you will understand why no one is more qualified to write a true practicum for the massage therapist who wishes to really practice aromatherapy.

Ms. Martin's writing style is sprightly and steady. As a practicing aromatic consultant myself for more than a decade, I could only reflect that I wish I had had the book when I was staring out. She knows her oils, and the monographs are good. Anyone who wants to learn can use this book, and profit.

As an experienced aromatic professional, I am thoroughly impressed. Don't hesitate. BUY THIS BOOK AND USE IT. Your clients will thank you for it.

Product Description
Aromatherapy A–Z is a fresh and easy step-by-step reference guide. The authors have compiled a vast amount of information on essential oils, humankind’s first medicine. Well-preserved oils were found in alabaster jars in King Tut’s tomb, and in biblical times, frankincense, myrrh, rosemary, hyssop, and spikenard were used for anointing and healing the sick. Essential oil recipes and blends were found in the Bible and ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics.

Essential oils, the authors tell us, are very powerful healing agents that detoxify the blood in the human body. They are antibacterial, anticancerous, and antiviral. Essential oils stimulate the immune system and have been effective in the treatment of such diseases as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and multiple sclerosis. Use this well-organized book to find the combinations of oils that are most beneficial for treating a variety of illnesses and physical problems naturally. Then, enjoy the sense of emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being that the oils will bring. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Aromatherapy A-Z
I thought this book was absolutely wonderful. It is highly informative. It has been well written and easy to understand. The authors have made an extra effort so that the inexperienced can readily understand this information and how to apply it in everyday life.I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is interested in aromatherapy as well as essential oils.

1-0 out of 5 stars Desperately bad book for Aromatherapy
The appearance of this book is reminiscent of a cookbook when looking at the design of its colourful cover and spiral bound contents, separated by index-type pages. The contents of the book are mainly made up of notes from lectures, conferences, videos and audiotapes , according to Pat Leatham, one of the authors who has certifications in Rapid Eye Technology as well as Principles of Personology (I mention this not because it isnecessary relevant, but because I never heard of these areas of study and would love to be enlightened!)... Back to the review. In the first chapter 'Basic Facts about Essential Oils' the authors tell us that "Essential oils were humankind's first medicine." When the very first sentence of a book is factually incorrect, one has to wonder. It doesn't get much better I am afraid. Indeed, this work is a disservice to the subject area . There was a time when publishers andparticularly the editors they employeed, were knowledgeable about the subject areas of the books that they dealt with. Alas that is no longer the case and this title is one of the best examples of that that I have seen in aromatherapy. Many of the entries in the a-z portion (which in fact is most of the book except for ten pages) has just one word. For example under 'Irritable Bowel Syndrom' it simply "Peppermint". In fact most of the entries are made up of names of essential oils. For example for 'Jealousy' there is "Bergamot, eucalyptus, frankincense, lemon, marjoram, orange , rose, rosemary, sandalwood, thyme." The entry on 'Lung' which falls under theheading of 'Cancer' is more informative. It tells us: "Blend: 15 drops frankincense, 5 drops clove, 6 drops ravensara, 4 drops myrrh, and 2 drops sage. It is best when inserted into rectum." (I'm not kidding.) There are no references whatsoever as to the botanical names of the plants that the oils came from! It is obvious that the authors of this book take no notice, if indeed they are aware, of the various concerns ofthe industry. For example under the heading 'Direct Application' it states: "Essential oils can be applied directly on the area of concern using one to six drops. More oil is not necessarily better; one to three drops is usually adequate. Some oils may need to be diluted with a pure vegetable oil." That's it. Now for those who may be wondering exactly what lectures, conferences and other sources were used by Pat Leatham when compiling her notes, the references to Grade A oils (not a common term in the aromatherapy industry), frequency of oils and information about how 'raindrop therapy' which is described as dropping essential oils on the spine to help bring the body into balance, may give you a clue.My recommendation about this book is that the authors actually read the titles they list in their bibliography, fora start. A Dangerous book.

Excellent resource book.Gives a lot of background and history of aromatherapy and essential oils.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for newbies and experienced users
The descriptions of the oils, their uses and compatiblities are very good.I would have liked to have a little more information on some of the oils and perhaps some more recipes for men's fragrences but all in all this a book I use alot.Aromatherapy is not just about smell but also about taste and good health, meditation aids and more.

5-0 out of 5 stars Complete Aromatherapy Handbook: Susanne Rischer-Rizzi et al
Having read tombs and tombs of data, publications and books on the subject aromatherapy, including authors Schnaubelt, Price, Mojay, Catty, Tisserand and Battaglia (all of which are great books), Fischer-Rizzi is one of a few books, including Salvatore Battaglia, that I refer to constantly.Fischer-Rizzi's writing and presentation style is authoritative and page-turning, and given the complexity of the subject matter, she presents all that is aromatherpy with ease and marvellous readability. The book does provide recipes for all kinds of ailments and cosmetology, but what I most like about this lady's book is the 'straight to the heart of the matter' reading. The book is far more literary than many books on this subject. That is not to say it is airy fairy or wordy - far from it - it simply states each oil's components in plain English and does not bore and labour through overuse of chemistry and jargonised language.Fischer-Rizzi also advises each oil's affinity with other oils, which will help you blend and create synergies. The book also details base oil use and therapeutic benefits. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars My Most Referenced Aromatherapy Book
I attended an aromatherapy class and the instructor suggested that I buy this book because I am a massage therapist and I wanted to incorporate aromatherapy into my practice.

I am so glad I got it! And it will be useful for so much more than blending massage oils!

This book covers a wide array of topics and includes things like case stories, recipes, how-to's, lots of charts and tables, and even a set of flash cards to help you learn your essential oils!

This book includes:

-The Chemistry of Essential Oils and what properties do what in or on your body.
-Blending of Essential Oils; Client intake, choosing oils, blending, and proper diluting.
-Aromatherapy for the Skin; The How and the What.
-Olfaction; The How and the What of aromatherapy scents.
-Application and Integration; Applications on the skin, during massage sessions, etc. Includes recipes for massage oils, lotions, creams, gels, salves, and what oils to use for common injuries/ailments that bodyworkers would come across.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent reference for Aromatherapy practitioners
Loaded with an immense amount of information based on years of research. Blending tips based on blending factors. Great and valuable information based on these ladies' years of practice and enthusiasm. Highly recommended!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book
This is an excellent book that is informed with an outlook that can only come from a working professional. This isn't a book solely based on cold theory.

It even appears to include some sound scientific principles - down to touching on the question of how the size of the dropper bore will affect what you measure out. They even cover some basic chemistry though I'm glad there was only one chapter on that. The information includes dilution charts, blending tips and a comprehensive section on carrier oils as well as the in-depth profiles of a number of essential oils. Appropriate safety precautions are included. Each chapter has a worksheet at the end to allow you to test your own understanding of the preceding information.

As the first review indicated: as well as for bodyworker therapists, this would be a good book for those who are simply interested in essential oils.

5-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive information
I was very impressed with the amount of information this book contained and it's not just for bodyworkers. It not only provides as much information as someone new to essential oils would want, but those with a greater need for information can spend more time in some of the sections. I thought the flashcards at the back of the book were a nice touch for those who really need to know which oils they are buying and working with. ... Read more

This book is great it gives you alot of essential oils and what you can use them for I originally checked this out in the library, and loved it so much that I bought it!It has so many different mixtures and how to mix them with a carrier oil great book! If you like aromatherapy oils you should have this book!

4-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Aromatherapy Therapy Resource
I am a massage therapist and I bought this book to help me incorporate aromatherapy more into my practice.
I was very pleasently surprised at the amount of information in this book. It's packed with how-to's, tips, guides, and pictures along with an abundance of information.
I am a visual learner, so I was really happy that there are so many pictures depicting herbs, ancient applications, and modern techniques among other things.
I bought this book used from an Amazon seller and it came in excellent condition.

-The only thing I will say (and the reason I knocked it down a star) is that the authors have fallen victim to the scam that animal fats are bad for you and they consistently bring it up. For a traditional foody like me, it was quite annoying.

5-0 out of 5 stars Certainly a Must Have!!
I have recently completed Level 1 of an Aromatology certificate, and my class is jam packed with lots of information.I was given this book as a gift - and it's the gift that keeps on giving! This book is fulled with useful content; properties of oils, common ailments, suggested treatment methods, and also includes a strong section for massage. This book as been an wonderful resource, and will help anyone regardless if you are pursing certification or not.It will definately help you to enrich your life with some natural solutions!Enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive and practical guide to aromatherapy!
This book is *excellent*! Really detailed and comprehensive. It includes:
1. A section on how aromatherapy can be practiced at home (lotions/treatment oils/steams/perfume blending/proportions -- and more!)
2. A detailed section on massages and carrier oils
3. Info on medicinal/clinical aromatherapy
4. A very comprehensive section on common conditions that can be treated by aromatherapy
5. A detailed section on the essential oils themselves (e.g. functions/characteristics/safety data/smell).
6. Brief appendix about vitamins and essential oil chemistry

I've seen her other bestselling book (The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Essential Oils) -- and although that book is also an excellent info source (165 oil profiles+brief theraputic index), it is "too" broad for me. The bulk of that book is oil profiles, and it contains profiles on many oils I won't use and won't be able to find in stores (although, of course, it also contains profiles on every common oil you can imagine). I would consider buying it if I need a comprehensive essential oil guide in the future.

I prefer this book (The Complete Illustrate Guide to Aromatherapy) because it covers a broader area and is practical; it's well written, pleasant on the eyes (great-to-read layout) and interesting, with useful info on many areas (e.g. recipes as well as oil info). Although this book does not contain as many oil profiles, the content of the profiles are 90% the same as her other book, which does the job for me. The photos and illustrations are beautiful, too! : ) Superb reference for beginners or pros.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent study guide
I purchased this book after I found our school textbook to be less than helpful for those who are visual people.

The info in the book was fine, but I was looking for more.Very few of the techniques were applicable to me.

5-0 out of 5 stars great!
I bought this along with Elaine Stillerman's prenatal book. I am a massage therapist that's trained in prenatal and knew that there were some things that you had to be careful of when massaging a mommy-to-be. Most women love aromatherapy but have to be aware of certain risks when using essential oils during their pregnancy. This book is clear about what to use and what to avoid. Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lots of Great Information for Moms and Babies!
I found this book at Whole Foods and didn't know if it was worth the price.Went across the street to the library and checked it out.The answer is yes, it is worth the (Amazon) price! It is chock full of information pertaining to aromatherapy and oils that are safe for mom and baby both prenatal and postpartum. I was especially interested in which oils help with the baby blues and this book gives a thorough rundown of those as well as others that relieve pain, give energy, and calm you (or the baby) down. I have to take the library book back, so here I am to buy it.If you are interested in massage and/or aromatherapy, or know a pregnant mom who is, get this book!I wish I would have had it for my first pregnancy.

All safety issues are clearly spelled out with the pregnant woman and newborn in mind¸ and general education is provided so that the reader can proceed in confidence, knowing which oils to embrace, and which oils to avoid, along with dosage recommendations for pregnancy.

Product Description
The first book devoted exclusively to aromatic hydrosols--gentle, water-based plant extracts that expand the healing, cosmetic, and culinary applications of aromatherapy.* The newest development in the field of aromatherapy.* The homeopathic form of aromatic treatment that is the perfect complement to other forms of vibrational medicine.* A comprehensive reference with more than 100 recipes and formulas for using hydrosols as well as sources of supply.* With an introduction by Kurt Schnaubelt, author of Advanced Aromatherapy and Medical Aromatherapy.

Hydrosols is one of the most anticipated books in the world of holistic health because it introduces a revolutionary new use of essential oils in aromatic treatment. Hydrosols, or hydrolates, are the pure, water-based solutions created when essential oils are steam distilled. Through this process, a potent, yet subtle form of medicine is created, one that is able to be ingested as well as applied directly to the skin, unlike most pure essential oils. In fact, hydrosols are considered the homeopathic version of aromatherapy, and as such are ideal for use with children, animals, and those with fragile immune systems.

Suzanne Catty details the specifics of 67 hydrosols, provides formulas to treat more than 50 health concerns, and offers 40 delicious recipes in which hydrosols can be used. Her section on pets will help owners deal with urinary tract and digestive problems as well as grooming and odor issues. She also shows how hydrosols can be used with other forms of vibrational medicine and with feng shui, geomancy, and dowsing. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
Love this book.Lost it and then bought it again.Great reference book to have on hand.A comprehensive book which will be the first book I turn to for anything I need to know about hydrosols.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous book to have!
This is the best collection of information about hydrosols on the market!I make lotions and oils for dogs and cats so learning about hydrosols is critical.

The author has easy to understand information about the history and process of making hydrosols. She includes concise information on specific scents and provides recipes for their use.

I'm going to use this book on a regular basis.Hydrosols: The Next Aromatherapy was strongly suggested in Kristen Leigh Bell's book, Holistic Aromatherapy for Animals (another great work).

5-0 out of 5 stars Definitive...a wonderful addition to my library

I purchased this book when it first came out.I thoroughly enjoyed it at that time, and have used it as a reference ever since. What so many do not realize is that different treatments (distillation vs. tincture vs. absolute vs. hydrosol, etc.) of a plant result in often VERY different properties comprising that substance. So finally having some insights into the properties of hydrosols, the water remaining from the distillation of a plant, is/was much needed. No other work like it had been available.

And what a revelation about many of them. Most people, even those working with essential oils and their cousins were not aware of what this or that hydrosol might do, let alone how to get their hands on it.

Really needed and really wonderful work!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good information source
Suzanne Catty says many folks believe they are allergic to scents, but scent allergies are usually owing to the impurity of the substance used. "If we used unpolluted, totally natural smells, the chances of negative health reactions would be dramatically reduced."Catty says she discovered hydrosols when she received a brochure from the Aromatic Plant Project initiated by Jeanne Rose and other pioneers. Catty thinks these substances are as effective as oils, tisanes, and other plant-based remedies.

HYDROSOLS: THE NEXT AROMA THERAPY includes a good deal of information about the beginning of the use of hydrosols and a discussion about water.Good clean water is in demand and growing scarcer every day. In years to come a growing share of the world's population will not have access to clean water.Because humans are 60-70 percent water, and totally dependent on the stuff, this is a crises. Catty suggests good water, in addition to being a life-source, can also be medicine when combined with plant substances.

A large section of the book discusses specific hydrosols, rthe water products which form as a by-product during essential oil production (i.e. healthful water derivatives). In a section entitled `The Monographs' Catty covers specific information discovered by researchers about the properties and some applications of hydrosols. Here Catty is concerned with the chemical makeup as well as various phases of hydrosol production. Temperature, filter quality and water source all play a role in the end product(production and storage).

In subsequent chapters she goes into more depth, covering uses of hydrosols: as compresses; sitz baths and regular baths; topical compresses such as masks, scrubs, and compresses; and shampoos, conditioners and rinses. She also considers hydrosols for oral use as tonics, eye-washes or douches.

I like Catty's matter-of-fact writing about these useful products. She also provides a list of sources in the appendix, including information about her own company 'Acqua Vita'.

5-0 out of 5 stars Groundbreaking!
It's high time someone researched and explored the use of these healing waters. An excellent piece of work. ... Read more
