5-0 out of 5 stars Good purchase
This book is a much better version of the first Aqualog special by the same author. Infact, it has much more pages of excellent information regarding scientific information on crustaceans, on how to keep them in captivity and breeding. I cannot refrain from mentioning the excellent photos and their exact corresponing scientific names referring to them. Some of the photos are taken by the reknowned Chris Lukhaup.

I love this book which unfortunately was published exactly when Sulawesi shrimp were still in their initial stages of spreading in the hobby worldwide. Still there are some photos of these shrimp included in the last part of this book.

For sure, 'All About Shrimps, Crayfishes, and Crabs in the fresh- and brackish-water aquarium and paludarium' by Uwe Werner is a must have for all shrimp and other crustacean unthusiast especially for those who are into keeping them in aquaria and paludaria. Unfortunately, this Aqualog book together with the first one issued before are the only serious attempts in English language so far to my knowledge. There are so many books in german language which unfortunately are not yet translated for us hobbyists.

Thumbs up for this book!!!! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A quick reference for aquatic plants' lovers
If you are like me that loves a lushly planted aquarium, this book is helpful as a quick reference guide. It describes the most common species, the origin and their basic care (temperatura, ideal water parameters, etc.)However, note that the info is limited on each species but, as a quick fix source is good enough.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great reference for fish care
Dr. Carrington has created a short reference book to help aquarists along.

He covers setting up the tank and equipment, aquatic plants, breeding, avoiding disease, identification of disease, and treatment ofdiseases.

Don't be put off by the small size of this book, it's the bestreference I've seen for fish diseases. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Informative, many pictures
Answers a lot of questions, quick & easy to read w/many pictures.Would highly recommend it for anyone interested in hermit crabs or w/a hermit crab pet.My oldest daughter (3) brings it to school frequently to show everyone the pictures - she's learned a lot from it - so far it's a good substitute for the crab.

3-0 out of 5 stars Just OK
A good basic book. Very little detail on day to day. More than I wanted to know about reproduction. B&W photos do not do much to make the little crabs look attractive. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars a great book
that bookgive me a lof of knowledge on my fish and give me idea what to choose to my aquarium

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for identification and quick reference.
The Baensch Photo Index 1-5 is one of the most recent additions to the fine series of Baensch aquarium books.

Excellent from a technical perspective (a clean, easty-to-follow layout with stunning photography) the book really excells because of the huge amount of information it packs into a small space. It is ideally suited to the task of fish identification, although the sheer number of species listed may make this a daunting task for the beginning hobbist.

Potential buyers should note however that the amount of written information in this book is not as extensive as other volumes. Rather than a deficiency, this has to be viewed as a necessary evil, as the book's aim is to present as much as it can while remaining portable. Even so, the information listed is nothing to scoff at.

This book has become my most used reference source and I highly recommend it to beginner and advanced aquarists alike.

5-0 out of 5 stars Review of Baensch Aquarium Atlas Photo Index Vols 1-5
Stunning. I have never seen so may fish photographs in one book, althoughinformation on each species pictured is limited to a few symbolsand words, these are functional and in most cases all that is required.Words however are not this books main purpose easy access to visualinformation is.

For the catfish keeper : 146 catfish pages with usually 6photograph thumbnails per page = approximately 846 pictures. I didn't countthem but I think it's fair to say that's over 500 species all withexcellent photographs.

Many rare and unidentified or described speciesappear alongside aquarium mainstays. This is applicable to all types offreshwater fish which are featured in equal volume.

This book is one bigindex for the other 5 volumes, but what an index! About 1/3 of the wholebook is a common, current and old scientific name index covering all fivesvolumes and the photo index itself. Now that's useful!

I love this book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A present
This was a present for my son-in-law.I had a copy from the 1970's and he is a newbie to aquariums.I love mine so I bought a copy for him.

3-0 out of 5 stars Reasonably thorough aquarium handbook
There are many species in this hanbook and they are treated in an orderly way. For the species that are contained it is a really nice handbook.

But i lack many species. I was looking for some specific cichlids that was not mentioned in this handbook.

The handbook has many illustrations most of which are black and white. Quality of illustrations are OK, but no more than that.

To the price it is a good and comprehensive guidebook to the subject.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good starter book for fish lovers
My daughter thinks that Axelrod is the most knowledgeable person regarding fish and aquariums and requested a couple of his books for Christmas. Some of his stuff is pretty old, but this was one of the newer ones (the older one has black and white pictures), so she was thrilled.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good (but dated) reference book
Book was bought for my grandaughter who was always referring to my 30 year old copy.
She mainly uses it for fish descriptions with which she is happy.

2-0 out of 5 stars An extensive if not dry and boring reference book.
If you decide you must have this book, make sure you get the 4th edition! I bought a 3rd edition from 1983 and despite its NEW condition got none of the pages of color photos that others rave about. The 3rd edition is on low quality paper, with only B&W photos, many of which are too dark to be of use. Additionally, because this book (regardless of edition) is in fact a reprint of the original published in 1955, it does contain lots of dated information regarding equipment and various aquarium set-up and maintenance practices.

In my humble opinion....save your money despite the low prices for this huge book in good used condition and buy a more up to date book with full color illustrations and less "intellectual" language. ... Read more

Product Description
You want to own an iguana? Do you know what it takes to
make that happen?
Owning an iguana is not something simple. You have to
balance their living environment with their needs for the
most natural levels of protection. If you don’t invest the
time in finding the right type of living area for your iguana
and give him the proper care, he will not be as healthy as he
should be. In fact, without the right environment, he will
perish.
There are many people that don’t invest enough time in
determining the right living environment for their iguana. In
the first chapter, we talk about just how important this fact
is. The bottom line is that without a carefully controlled
living environment, the iguana can become ill. The good
news is that we’ve taken all of the guess work out of it.
You’ll learn how to properly build a home for your pet, how
to maintain it, how to properly feed and clean your iguana
and even how to begin training your pet. With these things
in place, you’ll be able to bring home an iguana and call him
your pet. And, he’ll love you for doing so!

3-0 out of 5 stars Not the Real Thing
Innes' _Exotic Aquarium Fishes_ is a classic, through edition 19. This 20th edition is a version substantially changed by the editors at TFH, who later bought the rights to Innes' book. Though a fairly decent book in its own right, this 20th edition has been so changed as to no longer resemble the Innes classic. Do yourself a favor and find a copy of a 19th edition or earlier, instead. You won't regret it. If someone told you to look for the "Innes book," this is not it!
