Product Description
If you believe that animals have a special place and purpose on this planet, The Animal Advocate is a book not to be missed.

Compiled of previously-published newspaper columns, Rebecca Stroud's essays are written in a conversational, down-to-earth style. Yet she absolutely pulls no punches.

Full of solid facts couched in personal anecdotes, Stroud is an informative - albeit entertaining - voice that speaks loudly in defense and support of those who cannot speak for themselves.

From the plaintive 'Abandoned' to the poignant 'Death and the Dog' to the spiritual 'Dogs and God,' Stroud's message to the masses is not the usual politically-correct fare. It is, instead, a thought-provoking and insightful breath of fresh air.....a must-read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Too many cats...a continuous challenge
An important documented title with an extensive bibliography, directory of organizations, and index.Obviously, the supply of incompetent pet owners will never cease. The specific question is: How can the wandering cat (owned, stray, and feral) be humanely managed? This book discusses how organizationshave made a difference by working with various components of their own community. The feral cat problem will not be solved, but this book will help animal kindness organizations put in place policies and action plans which involve education, implementation, and cooperation.Recommended for animal kindness organizations and public libraries. 5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Contributors to the Book
Being able to share Mama D's story was one of the truly memorable times in my life; knowing that her story is just one of millions makes my heart break.Everyone who read my copy of this book has loved the animals, cried over their circumstances, & rejoiced at most of the outcomes. In an age of all the cruelty in the world, it does my heart good knowing this kind of book can touch so many.Christina, thank you again for your belief in Mama D's story & it's ability to touch your readers.

3-0 out of 5 stars Heart warming, feel good, animal rescue stories...
I haven't read all of this book, but rather the stories that interested me.Several brought tears, usually happy, to the eyes. There is a wide variation of the expertise of the writers, but it doesn't take away from the enjoyment of the read, and shows you don't have to be a professional writer to write a good story.I would recommend this book to those that have an interest in saving unwanted and abused animals, and perhaps encourage more people to seek out adopting these "loosers".Most make our lives much fuller.Heart warming, feel good stories.

5-0 out of 5 stars This tugs your heart strings!!
This book was wonderful!! It made you laugh and cry, which is the scale I judge books on.The stories were written in different styles, making it so personal. And it makes you want to head down to the nearest animal shelter to see how you can help.Congratulations to the author.I wait for her next compilation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Animal Friends Volunteer
I became aware of this book through the local Pittsburgh Shelter I volunteer for - Animal Friends. The only no-kill shelter in the city of Pittsburgh. It has many heart warming stories and I've sat reading many with tears in my eyes.It not only tells tails of pets from Animal friends, but other rescue groups as well.A must for any animal lover out there.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cosmo'smama
This book is the best I've read about rescued pets.Too many people look at rescue and shelter pets as second best.Nothing could be further from the truth. This book shows pets who have changed lives.Whether they come to us at a time we need a best friend or we rescue them when all of their chances are gone.Animals make lives better every day! Thanks to Chris for telling their stories! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Breathtaking
The photos in the book are stunning. Although I am not a cat person, I especially enjoyed reading how Michael; also a dog person, came to photograph these cats. I fell in love on each and every page. An absolute must for any cat lover in your life, or for any lover of animals, like me. Who now envisions a cat in her life someday. The photos are magic. Bless Michael for the work he did for these animals, who only want to have a home and be loved. I am ordering more books for Christmas gifts and I know they will be enjoyed.

1-0 out of 5 stars Max The Shelter Dog
I found this book a TOTAL rip-off for the price.Fortunately, I bought a "used" copy for slightly less but I expected a BOOK, not a 20 page children's story that was juvenile and infantile.A 3rd grader could have written this book.Had it been priced at 19 cents, then it would have been OK.There was a glaring mis-spelling on the first page which I thought was inexcusable for a writer/editor/publisher.Any editing would have caught it.
DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!

5-0 out of 5 stars MAX, THE SHELTER DOG IS A GOOD READ FOR CHILDREN
MY DAUGHTER-IN-LAW IS VERY ACTIVE IN A PIT BULL RESCUE GROUP.THIS BOOK IS GREAT WHEN SHE TAKES A DOG TO CHILDREN'S SCHOOLS AND SHELTERS TO TALK ABOUT DOG SAFETY AND TO INTRODUCE KIDS TO THIS MUCH MISUNDERSTOOD DOG BREED.I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK; IF CHILDREN HAVE NO EXPERIENCE WITH DOGS WHO HAVE BEEN SURRENDERED TO SHELTERS THIS IS A REAL EYE-OPENER.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!
What a wonderful story as seen through the eyes of a shelter dog. I loved it and will be reading it to many children And to my 2 sweet pitbulls..

2-0 out of 5 stars Good story, disappointing book
This book was purchased as a gift for my young niece, whose parents are ardent pit bull lovers and supporters. The story in the book is an important one, and I appreciate the author donating some of the proceeds from the book to charity. But for $20, I expected a better quality book - hardcover at least. The artwork looks photocopied onto the page.Overall, the production is very amateur for the price.I'm sad to say I'm disappointed with my purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful lesson about shelter dogs

Product Description
In 2006 my oldest daughter Indira Mandisa returned to our home in Cutler Bay, South Florida for a six months stay and brought her pet feline, Patience, along. Although I was not keen on the idea, I agreed (albeit) under considerable pressure.I was never a 'Cat Person' as such and, quite frankly, never imagined having one of those furry little buggers around ... much less living with one.Although I was initially insistent that the Cat's stay was going to be a short term situation, Patience eventually grew on both my wife and I so much so that we became very fond of the little Feline. This is therefore not only a photo storyline about how Patience conned her way into our home, and eventually into our hearts, but also how having her around really changed my point-of-view about Cats. ...
